1  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [Free Article] Vintage Avant-Garde: Rebuilding Griselbrand Oath on: July 31, 2012, 08:32:12 am
I played a Griselbrand Oath version at a small side-event last weekend to a top 4 split.

My maindeck had the following changes to your proposed list:

- 2 Mana Leak
- 2 Spell Pierce
- 1 Ancient Grudge
- 1 Ponder
- 1 Verdant Catacombs

+ 2 Mana Drain
+ 2 Flusterstorm
+ 1 Hurkyl’s Recall
+ 1 Jace, The Mind Sculptor
+ 1 Underground Sea

The sideboard was similar to yours:
- 2 Nihil Spellbomb
- 1 Doom Blade

+ 2 Tormod’s Crypt
+ 1 Dismember

Only 16 players. We will play 5 rounds with a cut to top 4.

Round 1 vs Oath Mirror (with Emrakul, Blightsteel, no Dragon’s Breath)
Game 1 is a quick win for me thanks to orchard advantage.
Game 2 I mull to 5 and keep a one-lander with KeyVault but I never draw a second land before his Oath goes active.
Game 3 I lose the orchard-war. But my active Jace trumps his active Oath without the Dragon’s Breath. I bounce his Blightsteel and Emrakul.  And Jace finds me the VaultKey.

Round 2 vs Sun Titan Dredge
Game 1 he mulligans to 1 without finding a Bazaar. A turn 2 Jace insures he never does.
Game 2 he has a Bazaar and some slow dredges. I spellbomb away his graveyard which buys me some time to find an Oath. Next turn he dredges for a lot and ends the turn with a Titan some 10+ Zombies. I oath up the Demon and draw 14 cards finding the Merchant Scroll for Ancestral Recall for his last 3 cards.

Round 3 vs UR Delver
Game 1 he controls my mana with wastelands but he has not a lot of pressure. A delver gets bolted and all he has for an offense are 2 Grim Lavamancers. Over the course of a few turns I give him 4 spirits while digging for an Oath with counter backup against his full grip. I can drop the Oath which enters the battlefield uncontested. He was holding a lone flusterstorm as countermagic. Griselbrand shows up and wins the game.
Game 2 he has a pair of grafdigger cages to shut down my potential oaths. I claim one and try to Yawgmoth’s Will which offcourse resolves and then does obviously nothing.  We fight over my Ancestral Recall with double mental misstep and red elemental blasts. His Force wins out. With our hands spent we go draw go for a few turns in which I draw a Lotus to hardcast Griselbrand.

Round 4 vs Oath Mirror (w Griselbrand)
Game 1 he goes Forest, Lotus Petal, Oath of Druids. I look at my hand with an orchard and let it resolve. He doesn’t draw an orchard and doesn’t preordain into one so the Demon chooses my side.
Game 2 We both start with land, artifact mana, voltaic key. I have a hand with double Nature’s Claim, double bolt and draw into mental misstep and vampiric tutor. I claim an Oath and a bolt and claim get thoughtseized. I can end of turn force through the tutor and assemble VaultKey the turn before he would get a Demonic Tutor.

Round 5 vs Oath Mirror (w Rune-Scarred Demons)
We ID for the top 4. I end up on top of the swiss. So the top 4 will be Tezzeret, RUG Delver and 2 Oath.

Semi-Finals vs Round 5 Opponent
We all agree to split and play out the semis for fun.
Game 1 He starts with 2 orchards vs 3 for me, Jace finds an Oath and wins the game.
Game 2 He drops an early Time Vault, I have an orchard and an Oath and pass the turn. He tries to Time Walk but it gets blasted. I hold a Misstep and a Nature’s Claim. His last three cards in hand don’t have a way to find and force through the Key and on my turn Griselbrand finds an easy win.

Final vs Tezzeret
Unfortunately we didn’t play out the final.

The deck played out quite smoothly. I did have to mulligan a lot of hands due to not having enough mana in my starting seven. I am going to try to work in a 23rd mana source. A lot of Oath mirrors, so maybe time to change 1 Dredge hate-card to some Mirror Tech.
Having played a lot of Oath variants through the years I feel that Griselbrand is one of the most powerful options an Oath player has. I think you want a Griselbrand over Emrakul/Blightsteel. Especially if you don’t play the Dragon’s Breath in that version. Griselbrand is certainly more powerful than Iona now, because it’s a lot better against the MUD matchup.
2  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / BlackBorderBrawl 17th april 2011 Maaseik Belgium on: April 20, 2011, 02:37:45 am
After playing in Breda with a Mindslaver/Tezzeret AoB-deck I decided to change decks the night before this tournament.  This time I opted for a Gush Control build. My pretournament testing was absolute zero. These were my 75 for the day:

Maindeck

1* Ancestral Recall
1* Ancient Grudge
1* Blightsteel Colossus
1* Brainstorm
1* Demonic Tutor
1* Fastbond
4* Force of Will
1* Gifts Ungiven
4* Gush
2* Jace, The Mind Sculptor
3* Mana Drain
1* Merchant Scroll
4* Preordain
3* Spell Pierce
1* Tendrils of Agony
1* Timetwister
1* Time Vault
1* Time Walk
1* Tinker
1* Vampiric Tutor
1* Voltaic Key
1* Yawgmoth’s Will
1* Black Lotus
1* Island
1* Mana Crypt
4* Misty Rainforest
6* Moxen (Emerald,Jet,Pearl,Ruby,Sapphire,Opal)
2* Scalding Tarn
1* Snow-covered Island
1* Sol Ring
1* Tolarian Academy
2* Tropical Island
3* Underground Sea
1* Volcanic Island

Sideboard

1* Ancient Grudge
2* Nature’s Claim
4* Leyline of the Void
4* Oath of Druids
1* Emrakul, the Aeons Torn
1* Terastodon
1* Mindbreak Trap

I arrive early at the venue : a very nice playroom. The tournament is organized by the people I playtest with , so there are a lot of familiar faces to socialize with. In the end there are 42 people , so we prepare ourselves for the 6 rounds of swiss. I didn’t take notes and some games are fuzzy, but this is how things went more or less for me sunday.

Round 1 Nino Mas (RB Goblins)

Nino is a familiar face , who came out of retirement to compete again. I know he plays mostly budget decks but this is a proxy-tournament so anything goes.

Game 1 : He makes the first play woth Null Rod , cutting me off my artifact mana. I play a few lands and a Mox Opal. I manage to force a Warchief and a Ringleader. Demonic Tutor gets Ancient Grudge , which wipes away the Rod. I drop some artifact mana and Jace. I find enough gas to fire Yawgmoth’s Will and end the game with Tendrils of Agony.

SB: +4 Oath, Emrakul , Terastodon, Forest ; - Grudge , Volcanic , 3 Spell Pierce , 1 Preordain , 1 Jace

Game 2: He starts with a Piledriver , while I make some artifact mana. He swings and prowls in an Earwig Squad. He takes away my three creatures. He follows up with a Null Rod and I die to Gobbo Beats.

Game 3 : I start with a first turn Oath. He doesn’t play creatures for a few turns while I build my board. After a few turns he plays some hasty creatures  which beat for 6 and then sacrifices them all to a Skirk Prospector.  I keep digging with Preordains and assemble a hand with a lot of countermagic. He decides to go for it and plays Warchief and attacks. He tries to prowl again with the Squad but I have Mana Drain ready. I Oath up Blightsteel and a counter for his Stingscourger and Ringleader.

Win 2-1
Matches 1-0

Round 2 Thomas Imler (MUD)

Game 1: He wins the roll and gets down a Thorn and a Metalworker. I get a basic Island. On his turn het gets down a Lodestone Golem. I get a Volcanic Island. He uses Metalworker and plays Sundering Titan to wreck my manabase and I scoop.

SB: +4 Oath, Emrakul,Terastodon,Forest, Ancient Grudge,2 Nature’s Claim ; -4 Gush – 1 Gifts – 1 Jace -1 Tendrils -1 Fastbond -2 Preordain

Game 2: I Preordain into Tinker. He drops Metalworker. I slowly build my mana base with my basics and a mox. He drops with his Metalworker 3 Thorns and a Lodestone. I Can’t really play anything and he drops a Plated Empyrion to smash my face in.

Loss 0-2
Matches 1-1

Round 3 Tom Van Rooy (Oath)

Game 1: He tries to land 1st turn Oath but I have the Force. I play land , mox , sol ring. He Claims my Sol Ring. I get a few Spirit Tokens and a Jace into play. The spirits beat him down from 20 to 3 and Jace finds the Tendrils to finish him off.

SB: -1 Ancient Grudge , -1 Volcanic Island -1 Preordain ; +2 Nature’s Claim, +1 Forest

Game 2: He gets a 1st turn Oath but no orchard. I slowly build my hand to force through my Tinker.
He gets his Orchard and tries to cast a 2nd Oath which I drain. I Claim his Oath. He tutors and passes the turn. I Tinker for Colossus and play Timetwister. He Hurkyl Recalls my board and plays Oath.
He Oaths into his own Colossus. I play Gifts for Ancestral , Claim , Tinker and Time Walk. He gives me Recall and Claim. I play Ancestral Recall into Jace to bounce his Colossus.  My spirit token beats down for four turns while jace finds enough mana to hardcast my Colossus. The robot poisons him to death in the extra turns. He shows his hand which contained his other creature: Emrakul, but Jace could have bounced that anyway.

Win 2-0
Matches 2-1

Round 4 Robin Michalik (Dark Times)

One of the players I occasionally playtest with. Last Breda tournament I won twice by slavering him and playing Demonic Consultation for Mountain Goat. He hasn’t forgotten that and wants revenge.

Game 1: He wins the roll and plays Dark Ritual into Duress taking a Force and Vampire Hexmage. It beats down for a few turns until I resolve Tinker for Blightsteel Colossus.  I win with the Robot.

SB:  + The Oath Package.  – Ancient Grudge, - Volcanic Island , - 1 Gifts , -1 Preordain – 3Spell Pierce

Game 2: He opens the game with T0 Leyline of the Void. On T1 he goes Dark Ritual , Duress taking Tinker and Hexmage. I go land, mox , mox , mana crypt. He plays Demonic Tutor and passes. I play  timetwister. I get  a few lands, a key , a tutor and a force but no other blue card. If I survive till next turn I can Vault-Key him. He drew his Helm off the Timetwister and Rituals it into play and Obeylines me to death.

Game 3: He again opens with T0 Leyline. I play a fetch and pass. He plays 1st turn Confidant. I get down Oath and get a Terastodon and 3 Elephants. His Confidant finds him a lot of gas and he Tendrils me for 12. The life buffer gains him enough time for his Confidant to find him another confidant and Diabolic Edict.  I get him down to 5 with the Elephants and Confidant flips but he has me death on the board with 2 Confidants and a Hexmage but strangely gives me another turn. I desperately Twister but find nothing while het gets a lot of gifts from the twister. He can choose from 3 different ways to kill me and gets his revenge.

Loss 1-2
Matches 2-2
and out of contention.

Round 5 Benjamin Herz (Dredge)

Game 1: He does the Dredge game 1 thing and wins on turn 3 with hasty brain-eating zombies.

SB: -2 Jace, -1 Preordain , -1 Gifts ; +4 Leyline of the Void

Game 2: He mulls to six and drops T0 Leyline of Sanctity. I open with 1st turn Ancestral Recall into Tinker. He doesn’t drop a land and then dies to a poisonous robot a few turns later.

SB: -1 Tendrils +1 Preordain

Game 3: He mulls to five and drops two T0 Leyline of Sanctity. He doesn’t have a land T1. I get a lot of turns to sculpt my hand and can get a tinkered Colossus for the win.

Win 2-1
Matches 3-2

Round 6 Amadeus Kurz ( Bant Fish)
The top four tables all ID and the top 8 can start a few minutes after R6 started and is still being played out.

Game 1: I keep a hand that has 2nd turn Tinker with Force backup. He can chump the Blightsteel Colossus for one turn with a Qasali Pridemage but doesn’t find a StP.

SB: + The Oath Package ; - Ancient Grudge , - Volcanic Island , - 3 Spell Pierce , - 1 Gifts , -1 Preordain

Game 2: He has no turn 1 play , I make some mana. I play a turn 2 Oath which gets pierced. He plays a bear and I Tinker for Colossus and have the counter for StP.

Win 2-0
Matches 4-2

So I went 4-2 getting 12th place. I had a blast playing this deck, despite the early exit. I really liked how the deck played out. Some things I consider to change are adding a Thirst for Knowledge and a bounce-spell instead of Gifts and a Preordain. The last year or so I have put Gifts in about every deck I make only to take it out because of lack of performance. Either it sits uncastable in my hand, gets pitched to Force or it wins me a game I was already winning. Probably because I play very few Drain-matchups. The meta always has a lot of shops over here : typically I play 2 or 3 times against MUD in a six-rounder.
I liked the Oath sideboard plan but shouldn't have boarded it in against the Dark Times deck. Next time I need to prepare better and look up lists of some archetypes. I thought it played more creatures than 8 of which 4 sacrifice themselves.

The tournament venue was really nice.  Good organization, a lot of familiar faces and a load of new ones. What is there more to ask? Too bad a lot of preregistered players didn’t show up and the alpha ancestral couldn’t be handed out. Hope to see a new one of these soon.

Vintage 18 july 2010 Breda ,The Netherlands

I wanted to play something else than Oath , but I didn’t play any vintage for a few months so I just played a deck I know I’m comfortable with. Some minor updates in the Main and some tweaks in the Sideboard and we are good to go.  I cut Timewister and Regrowth for Thirst for Knowledge and Hurkyl’s Recall. In the Sideboard I upped my dredge hate with Wastelands and a Pithing Needle and some Fish hate in double Massacre. I removed Show and Tells, Bribery,Emrakul and the extra Elephant for all this. I made no notes so all this is from memory.

    4 Forbidden Orchard
    4 Misty Rainforest
    1 Library of Alexandria
    1 Tolarian Academy
    1 Forest
    2 Island
    1 Tropical Island
    3 Underground Sea
    1 Mox Sapphire
    1 Mox Emerald
    1 Mox Pearl
    1 Mox Jet
    1 Mana Crypt
    1 Mox Ruby
    1 Black Lotus
    1 Sol Ring
    4 Oath of Druids
    2 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
    1 Tinker
    1 Iona, Shield of Emeria
1 Sphinx of the Steel Wind
    1 Terastodon
    1 Tezzeret the Seeker
    1 Time Vault
    1 Voltaic Key
    3 Spell Pierce
    3 Mana Drain
    4 Force of Will
    1 Yawgmoth's Will
    1 Time Walk
    1 Mystical Tutor
    1 Merchant Scroll
    1 Vampiric Tutor
    1 Demonic Tutor
    1 Gifts Ungiven
    1 Thirst for Knowledge
    1 Brainstorm
    1 Ancestral Recall
    1 Hurkyl’s Recall

Sideboard
    2 Wasteland
    2 Massacre
    1 Pithing Needle
    2 Thoughtseize
    4 Ravenous Trap
    1 Tormod’s Crypt
    3 Nature’s Claim

Round 1 vs TPS

My opponent plays a lot of dredge so I think he’s playing that. Turns out he keeps something completely different this time Smile

Game 1 :  I keep a hand with a force an ancestral , a strip mine and some other mana sources.
I can keep my mana light opponent of enough mana to go off and ancestral finds me assorted goodies in Tinker and counters. I ride the Sphinx to victory and counter a dark ritual somewhere along the line.

SB:  +2 Thoughtseize – 2?

Game 2 : He can go broken with Jace and Yawghmoth’s Will and Tendrils me for a lot.

Game 3 : He has a first turn Demonic Tutor off a Swamp and Mox Emerald. I hold my Force of Will but he doesn’t have a follow up this turn. Next turn I have Spell Pierce mana up and he can’t get his rituals through my counterwall. After some Ancestral Recall, Jace and Yawgmoth’s Will action I can assemble Vaultkey.

M 1-0 G2-1

Round 2 vs WGB Beats/disruption

Game 1: He get a first turn Library of Alexandria. He can get a couple of beats in with Goyf. The cardadvantage  gets me enough counters to stop his 2 Vindicates on my  Library  and eventually I find Oath. He can kill the Sphinx with a StP but Iona naming White gets there after countering a Shriekmaw.

SB:  +1 Pithing Needle, +2 Massacre  - 1 Hurkyl’s Recall -2 Spell Pierce

Game 2: He starts off with a Goyf which gets Forced. I Tinker into Sphinx. I Spell Pierce his StP. EoT Gifts Ungiven for Time Vault, Key, Vampiric Tutor and Demonic Tutor.
He gives me VaultKey. He has the Krosan Grip for the Vault but the Sphinx is enough of a threat on his own to seal this game.

M 2-0 G 4-1

Round 3 vs TrinketSalvagers

Game 1: I have a first turn Library of Alexandria and ride the card advantage to victory. He played an engineered explosives on 2 but I won with Tinker Sphinx.

SB : +2 Thoughtseize +1 Pithing Needle - 1 Island -1 Forest - 1 Mystical Tutor

Game  2 : He mulls to five and starts with mox jet , top. I Thoughtseize him and take away his Ancestral Recall. He now has a hand of Swords to Plowshares and Thirst for Knowledge. After some topping he finds a land for which I have Strip Mine. We draw go a lot. He can’t find mana and I draw a lot of mana sources including all my artifact mana. Eventually I find Tezzeret and ramp him to his ultimate. He draws and plays an explosives on 0. On my turn Tezzeret finds me the Vault. EoT he blows his explosives but Hurkyl’s Recall saves my Jewelry. His turn yields nothing and I take the game.

M 3-0 G 6-1

Round 4 vs MUD/STAX

Game 1 : I can resolve a Tinker through all his lock pieces for a Sphinx and I counter his Sculpting Steels. When he tries to buy some more turns with Tangle Wire I have a Force.

SB: + 3 Nature’s Claim +2 Wasteland – 1 LoA – 1 Tolarian Academy – 2 Jace -1 Gifts Ungiven

Game 2 : He opens with triple Leyline of Sanctity. He now has to play with a 4 card hand against my 7. He plays a Manacrypt , a Mox a Sphere and a Chalice for 0. We draw go a lot and I assemble some Orchards. When I try to drain he calls a judge claiming I can’t use my orchards because I can’t target him. The judge rules in my favor: I can draw the mana but he doesn’t get any tokens.  Nature Claims the Chalice with the extra mana I find Tinker for Time Vault and I play my Key. I have to pass the turn because I’m one mana short. He draws and tries to Sculpting Steel  my Time Vault. Another call to the judge confirms it indeed comes into play tapped. Not that it would have mattered because his next draw would have been a Trinisphere.

M 4-0 G 8-1

Round 5 vs GWSx

I offer the ID , but he wants to play so we are off to some quick games.

Game 1: He keeps a onelander and plays duress turn 1 and 2 , I spell pierce the first. The second nabs a Tinker. I topdeck a Scroll and the Ancestral finds me another Spell pierce countering a Dark Ritual buys me another turn to fire off a Yawgmoth’s Will which assembles VaultKey.

SB: +2 Thoughtseize – 1 Forest -1 Snow-covered Island

Game 2:  He starts off with a Dark Confidant which buys him a lot of mana. He duresses my countermagic and fires off a Sadistic Sacrament which removes my 3 creatures. A tezzeret finds me a Vault before he gets offed by the Confidant. After some tutoring I can play Yawgmoth’s Will and replay Voltaic Key. Seeing the clock now only is ticking for me and I will eventually find Jace my opponent scoops.

M 5-0 G 10-1

Round 6 vs Dark Times

We ID , we play a couple to pass the time and I win them quick with first turn Oaths into 18 power of pachyderms.

Quarterfinals vs CombOath

Game 1: He starts with a first turn Library of Alexandria.  I can chain some tutors into Ancestral Recall and Tinker which finds me a Sphinx. I strip his LoA. He Strips my Orchard and finds 2 Orchards of his own. The turn before the Sphinx would be lethal he can Oath into Tyrant which bounces the Sphinx.
I can’t find Jace or assemble Vaultkey during my turn and his next turn Oaths him into Emrakul which gives him infinite turns.

SB: - 3 Oath – 1 Island + 2 Thoughtseize + 2 Wasteland

Game 2:  I keep a hand with an Orchard,Oath,Ancestral Recall,Force of Will, Mana Drain, Island and Iona. I lead off with an Island an Ancestral which finds me some Moxen. He has an Orchard. I play mine. He strips my orchard and adds another one for himself. I try to Force his Oath but he has Force backup. He Oaths into Tyrant and Emrakul and takes some extra turns, bounces my board and attacks for lethal.

M 5-1-1 G 10-3

As a lot of my games tend to go I win with Tezzeret, Jace or Tinker. In this tournament I Oathed once. Three times if you count the testgames against my round 6 opponent. The deck is extremely resilient and I always feel that people who bring in Oath-hate dilute their deck too much and their deck becomes much worse. It’s better if their hate is part of their main plan like in Fish (Qasali Pridemage, Trygon Predator) , but that matchup is very winnable via other routes and Massacre can blow them out.

Oh my God ! They killed Vintage !  Smile

Leyline of Anticipation sounds seriously broken. I'm wondering what the other 4 will be, if those are a cycle. Maybe the green one makes all your creature spells uncounterable ?

On Mananation they showed that the black one is the reprint of Leyline of the Void.

In the last round, if you had countered the Key instead of the Trinket Mage, would that have worked?

I can't remember if he had counter-backup or not. I believe he had, but I'm not sure.

I have a question:

Did you like the two creature configuration? I play a very similar list and am very happy with one Robot and just one Oath creature so far.

I play only two creatures because it decreases the chance of oathing the wrong creature while still having the ability to Tinker. Ideally there would be a noncreature artifact to Tinker for that singlehandedly wins the game.
The Terastodon vs Iona main was a metagame call.
The matchups where I use Show and Tell, mainly Fish, are a reason to add more creatures from the SB. Sad sac less so because of the 4 total win conditions.
I don't like drawing the Reclamation, but it in tandem with Timetwister indeed strengthens your Tezz/Key-Vault win post Oath. Timetwister is really powerful with the Drains and an extra tool vs Dredge.

Here is the list I played in the tourney sunday 11 april with some minimal changes compared to the Breda tourney. I cut Ponder for the 3rd Mana Drain. Iona was relegated to the sideboard. Because the non-proxy nature of the tournament I changed Mox Pearl to a Lotus Petal. Seeing not a lot of dredge I changed 1 Crypt to the Terastodon in the board. 29 players showed up so we are off for 5 rounds.

SB:  +1 Terastodon + 2 Show and Tell , - 1 Krosan Reclamation, - 1 Timetwister , -1 Spell Pierce
Game 2 : I hardcast a Sphinx on the first turn courtesy of an academy , lotus , petal and a mox.
                 I ride it to victory.
Game 3:  He opens with a hierarch. My opening has Orchard, Mox , Oath. He curses his sideboardplan. He put me on Tezzeret/Storm and boarded out his Swords to Plowshares. I oath a Sphinx and a Terastodon.
M 1-0 G2-1

Round 2 vs Noble Fish
Game 1: I lose to quick mana denial
SB:  +1 Terastodon + 2 Show and Tell , - 1 Krosan Reclamation, - 1 Timetwister , -1 Spell Pierce
Game 2:  I spell pierce a first turn Null Rod and follow up with Tinkering out Sol Ring for the Sphinx.

Game3:  Jace finds me Tinker and a Key which spells victory.
M 2-0 G 4-2

Round 3 vs TrinketSalvagers
Game 1: I win the die roll , we shuffle up and then the judge swoops down on us and runs off with our decks. After  a good few minutes he returns. Apparently my opponent misregistered a fetchland.
Game  2 (Game 1 bis): I mulligan to 6 and keep a hand with a lot of land among it Library. My opponent has a slow start and I assemble Key and draw into Tinker , and double Oath. He wins a counterwar on the Tinker , has a final counterspell for the first Oath but the second Oath takes it.

M 4-0-2 G 8-2

Semifinals vs TrinketSalvagers
My 3rd round opponent gets a rematch.
Game 1: My opponent has a Time Vault and 2 Trinketmages. I can keep one off the table but the other brings the Key to Victory.  Turn two Oath wasn’t fast enough 
SB: -1 Island , -1 Forest, - 1 Krosan Reclamation, -1 Timetwister , - 1 Spell Pierce + 2 Duress, +1 Iona, +2 Show and Tell
Game 2:  I get extracted and lose the elephant. He has a Seal of Cleansing for my tinkered up Vault and a counter for my Yawgmoth’s Will. Mystical Tutor finds me an Ancestral and I reload on cards giving me Jace.  Jace brainstorms into 2 Oaths. The 2nd one sticks and I Oath up an Iona that gets bounced by a spellbomb and the Sphinx goes farming. My only out is hardcasting Iona but I get extracted for my last white source (Orchard). If my Lotus Petal had been a Mox Pearl I could have used my key to get the 3 white. Sideboarding out Krosan Reclamation and Timetwister turned out to be fatal.
M 4-1-2 G 8-4

I get a FBB Savannah for my efforts and turn it and 'some' euros into a Mox Pearl at the on site dealer.

Props:
The organization
My opponents, especially my quarterfinals opponent and hies team who drove more than 4 hours from Paris to compete.

Drains were amazing; I won several games off the strength of them.  They're definitely in the deck to stay.

In testing and the last two tournaments I played I  also very much liked the drains. Having hardcounters in a metagame where everyone is playing around Spell Pierce and the ability to counter key creatures in the Fish matchup proved to be invaluable. And it accelerates into brokeness too Smile

The problem with this deck I think is in having a Show and Tell and no creature in hand or the other way around.
If you have the creature you have a lot of tutors to find a Show and Tell , the other way around you will have to use a tutor chain to find a creature.
I do think that 7 topdeck-tutors is way too much.
I think you could cut the personal tutors for New Jace to use the brainstorm-ability to find the necessary pieces. It gives the deck a bit of a draw engine.
I would add a Tolarian Academy cutting one of the basics, it wont make hardcasting Emrakul a reality but one of the robots is certainly manageable.
Library of Alexandria is another card to consider but keeping 7 cards when your plan is to use 8 duress-effects to control the opponent's options is a bit hard. If you go that route
add Mana Drain. Facilitates hardcasting fatties too Smile

As an Oath-player, I do agree with the above posters that a combination of Oath of Druids and Show and Tell will probably work better in the end.

At the last Breda Tourney I played a version with Jace instead of the 2nd Top. Going 4-2.
I didn't have the opportunity to cast it that much , but I used it's ultimate once. Smile
I like the versality of the card, not only the brainstorm-ability but also the unsummon.
In testing I liked it against Tezz and the mirror. It's like an Uber-LoA without the need for 7 cards in hand.

Very nice event , as always. I went 4-2 with Oath losing to Goswin's workshops and Merrin's Fishies.
I think I'm going to change Iona into Terastodon or Tyrant. At least change it to a creature that does something against all those artifacts Smile

I played Iona Oath last weekend at the Breda tournament with 1 Jace and 1 Tezzeret maindeck. I played 1 Iona and 1 Sphinx of the Steel Wind as creatures.
I went 4-2 (R1 2-0 vs MUD, R2 0-2 vs MUD , R3 2-0 vs Goblins, R4 2-1 vs MUD, R5 0-2 vs NobleFish, R6 2-0 vs Dredge)

Due to the high presence of MUD I didn't cast Jace that often. I only got it into play one game against Goblins and one game against MUD.
Game 1 vs goblins I assembled Vault/Key and he wanted to see me play it out to see my victory condition, when I played Jace he scooped. So I had the opportunity to hide the fact that I played Oath. I think he put me on Tezz.
The other game I played him when I was going nuts on my yawg will turn against MUD , which prompted a scoop.
All in all I won 8 games ( Once with Jace's ultimate , once with Tezz ultimate, twice with oathing up creatures , thrice with tinkering in Sphinx and once with hardcast Iona)
I prefer Jace over Scroll Rack because he doesn't only put back your beasties and other useless stuff back on top, but increases your threatdensity.

You also have a lot of choices in dialogue.  Frequently you will have a number of options to choose from, two of which will be the exact same thing but one will have "(truth)" after it another will have "(lie)."  I don't know how much effect these decisions have on the overall outcome of plotlines, but I do know that they can have some.

If I recall the differance was that telling lies made you more chaotic and being truthful made you more lawful, thus affecting the items you could(n't) use.

What do you guys think of this card ?
http://cgi.benl.ebay.be/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8748869553

I recieved the card today , it passes the bend test, the light test and the print looks ok under a magnifying glass , but the card itself seems to be slightly thinner than my other powercards. So could it be a fake or is it variance ?
