I think the issue is what is he cutting for these utility artifacts?  Counter magic?  His draw engine gush? I'm not sure this would be worth as I'm sure he will still be finding vault/key well over 50% of the time even if he had the option of transmuting into any artifact in the game.

Well you can transmute from them, not just into them. I think a lone maindeck cage would be more useful in more situations than a misdirection, for example.

Ichor Wellspring seems pretty sweet with transmute artifact. Also disruptive artifacts, such as Grafdigger's cage (would want one in the main), Trinisphere, Crucible for the strip lock, Pithing Needle all seem like a great fit. And I think you definitely want to make room for memory jar.

I would also consider Snapcaster to double up on transmutes.

I hope every deck plays 4 of these so I have a justifiable reason to play Fact or Fiction. Also, if I kick dismantling blow on this card, do I get to draw cards?

One toughness creatures will never really give big blue fits, due to the ease of finding and casting darkblast, fire//ice, or lava dart, unless they are mana denial. Why deny them from drawing cards when you can deny them from casting the spells that draw cards (or casting the tutors the find answers to your creatures).

Aven mindcensor never really caught on and that card has 2 for 1 capabilities built in with flash as well as evasion. Granted 2 mana is a lot less than three, but I am skeptical of this being a real game changer.

I do like flexible in my removal. This is an above average sweeper which can also answer any tinker creature.

The issue I see is you are punished harder when people play around this card. 3 mana and x life to kill a goyf, for example, could limit this card's playability.

Not every creature has to impact the board immediately to fit in.
Bob probably being the clearest case of that.

If your argument for this card's playability is comparing it to Dark Confidant you do not have a very compelling argument.

Interesting card. That fact that it can be mana denial is interesting, as well as an efficient response to an enemy chalice. If you run it with null rod it can turn extras into (situational) removal which is another bonus. I'm just not sure it's directly powerful enough to justify 3 colored manas.

The argument against it is that 3 mana needs to seriously advance your game plan or impede your opponents'. Compare this to Vendillion Clique/Knight of the Reliquary/Edric/Tinker.

Clique get their best card. Also it has flash, so it really does not compare as a 3 drop. The next three do the following after passing:

 - blow up any land (and will continue to do so unless addressed)
 - draw many cards (and will continue to do so unless addressed)
 - win the game.

compared to this, which either blocks well or dings for 3 damage. personally I would rather have a threat that needs to be addressed immediately than a roadblock/slow wincon that cannot be addressed easily.

I'm not saying its garbage, I'm saying this statement -

It single handedely destroys MUD.  And warps the entire vintage format into Blue or Dredge. 

is a gross overreaction.

In a Draw 7 Type deck, this card makes whiffs into actual plays.  Underword Dreams is a thing I have died to against a Draw 7 deck.


Draw 7's + mana filtering (eggs, etc.) + luck = chaining draw sevens into victory. sounds very fun!

I'm sure that combo deck will match up beautifully against the Blue devotion deck that this card allows as an archetype.  

a blue deck thats gimmick requires you to tap out on your turn to commit to the board? yes. yes it would.

3 mana sorceries that are not straight hosers do not shut down mud decks. Smokestack and tangle wire (not to mention spheres) laugh at this card.

if it becomes highly played, I expect a) people to play massacre or b) people to play combo and laugh when you waste your turn 3 playing a 7 turn clock that doe not immediately effect the game.

yeah if you're going to run this into wasteland you probably don't play much magic ever so i'm not sure that's a legitimate concern.

I guess you can't play this t1 against a wasteland deck, but that, in my opinion, is a non-issue.

path is amazing vs mud but ass vs decks you are racing (ie the rest of the field).

Not instant speed but no life gain makes this quite good for a r/w aggro deck. Can a vintage playable boros sleigh deck be built? I don't know but i'll sure as hell try.

i think this is genius. i also think there is no reason to not go 4x drain. I also would think 4x preordain is a must. Furthermore, there is definitely room for some removal/interaction that cannot effect (affect?) shared fate, ie steel sabotage, rebuild/hurkyl's recall, pithing needle (for walkers), relic of progenitus, swords, etc. Finally, I think standstill is poor draw engine in a deck that has no threats. You play a standstill, but give them no reason to crack it. I think gush would be much better.

Looks interesting. I haven't played too much in a while. I will say I have tried single copy kotr lists before with searchers, and found that she is too important to your strategy to only run a single copy. Considering you have to untap with knight in play to be able to do anything, it is quite a vulnerable card. I would run at minimun two incase the first gets killed or countered.

I'll have to try the singleton deathrite. Experience tells me that noble is too insane with all the combat done in this deck and the first strike of thalia for a straight swap, but I also know that 'free' graveyard hate is nothing to sneeze at. Furthermore, anyone who has played with scavenging ooze can tell you random incremental life gain is unintuitively powerful in these lock-type decks. I like that addition.

A lot of your choices are preference as well. I would never run mental misstep, as I think it is too narrow in a format where brainstorm is restricted and shop is strong. I also think ESG is pretty swingy. Getting a kotr out a turn earlier alone can be game winning, but blowing a card for a single mana just seems bad to me. Again, my personal (and possibly wrong) preference.

Singleton mayor seems interesting. It certainly fills the goyf roll in a deck that can't easily build a diverse graveyard. However, that card seems to only be stronger in multiples. Playing 4 Green suns Zeniths could let you double up on mayors quickly.

The inclusion of township seems pretty free. I'll have to play with it. Any thought of a singleton kitchen finks for a small combo?

And I still don't understand scrib ranger. Seems like a huge tempo sink. I remember your argument that scrib ranger is good against shop, but if you can resolve a 2cc creature vs shop mana is not your problem. VS everything else it seems useless.

Elves is really fun. Thanks to things like arbor elf and qurion ranger, forests are arguably better than artifact acceleration, and certainly more consistant.

Playing against shops makes you want to cry, but the same can be said for most decks in the shop matchup.

I wonder if this guy could fit into menedian's bob/gush deck. Sure that deck drew a lot of cards but it also could vomit it's hand whenever. I think that the life loss being both low and highly controllable make for an interesting deck building choice.

Edit- Dragon or the "minus six" would also be a great choice. (The deck would, of course, be called "Minus Sixless Minus Six")

I was in Kenmore. The craziest part was that people knew within less than 2 minutes due to twitter. You can see some of the photos of the casualties on reddit it's real bad. Lots of my friends were running and literally hundreds of people I know were at the marathon (I am a BU alum). No one's phone was working due to overloaded system. You couldn't call anyone to say you were ok or ask if they were hurt.

Just a real fucked up day.

Nobody added 'one' card, i designed it from scratch after Cavern of Souls was spoiled. NOW it all looks logical and clear, but that is only because I pushed my ideas and convinced people with my determination. I compare Cavern with Workshop and Bazaar, a free card that generates tempo and virtual card advantage. And you underestimate the role that 1 or 2 cards can play.

Onto the deck. Is Bojuka Bog necessary? When I play knight against dredge I am very happy to find a wasteland. This stops their engine and immediately makes knight a 4/4, allowing you to stabilize against ichorid recursion. Bog is very nice against dredge but I think it is unnecessary. It is also a dreadful draw in your opening seven.

What do the basics in the board do? Is there a noticible change in the shop matchup? Wouldn't something like nature's claim go father as it can be brought in against oath as well?

I'm not convinced that this compares favorably to Vesuva. Since it has to tap to copy, it essentially trades the ability to produce colorless the first turn it's in play for requiring an activation cost to copy.

In Commander, this seems superior, but in Vintage?

I think its better than vesuva for sure. You can play this t1, for example, and copy a land that is played later. Another common play may be Shop t1, this t2 -> golem, where vesuva t2 doesn't do much for you. Of course, vesuva is not very good. Being better than vesuva isn't saying very much.
