1  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Colossal Gamekeeper on: August 11, 2007, 02:14:57 pm
I came across the old DSC + Gamekeeper in the Legacy forums and decided to come up witha more up to date version and it has done surprisingly well at my local card store and MWS.  It is extremely similar to the old version except for a few more up to date cards.

Colossal Gamekeeper
2x Bayou
2x Bloodstained Mire
4x Forest
6x Swamp
3x Treetop Village
4x Windswept Heath

1x DSC
1x Simic Sky Swallower
1x Gamekeeper

4x Cabal Therapy
4x Dark Ritual
4x Duress
4x Extirpate
2x Gaea's Blessing
4x Innocent Blood
3x Living Wish
3x Pernicious Deed
3x Putrefy
3x Sylvan Library
2x Worldly Tutor

4x Engineered Plague
1x High Market
1x Iridescent Angel
3x Krosan Grip
2x Xantid Swarm
2x Gamekeeper
1x Viridian Zealot

With only one GK maindecked, the deck sacrifices speed for consistency.  Extirpates are unbelievable in the deck for removing any threat like STP's.  I like Simic b/c he cant be bounced, swordsed, etc(averything DSC looses to).  Let me know what you think of the deck, it has done very well by me.

2  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Scion's Toolbox on: July 09, 2007, 06:38:42 pm
I recently got a play set of some very cool holographic Scion of the Ur- Dragon's and I thought it would be great and not to mention fun to make a deck built around him.  Im sure its been tried before but I'm gonna stay away from the Reanimating dragons because I want to be able to take advantage of the Planar Chaos's Dragon cycle with  {R} {2}, {B} {2}, etc.  I came across a card called Celestial Dawn that allows me to play Scion easily.  At first I tried WG with Worldly Tutors and Sterling Groves but it just wasn't competitive and had little protection.  After many more prototypes I finally fell on Black as a support color and its great.  It allows great protection like Duress's, and Vindicates and allows me to discard unwanted dragons through Putrid Imp.  The following is my newest deck which is still in serious need of some help.

BW Scion's Toolbox
(1.5 Legacy Legal)
//Land (21)
2x Ancient Den
3x Godless Shrine
2x Plains
3x Reflecting Pool
4x Scrubland
2x Swamp
1x Vault of Whispers
2x Windswept Heath
2x Bloodstained Mire

//Creatures (13)
1x Dragon Tyrant (Massive Beater tool)
1x Nicol Bolas (Hand Discard tool)
1x Oros, the Avenger (Wrath of God tool)
1x Quicksilver Dragon (StP etc protection tool)
1x Teneb, the Harvester (Reanimation tool)
1x Vorosh, the Hunter (pumps up Scion)
4x Scion of the Ur-Dragon (toolbox utilizer)
3x Putrid Imp (Discards unwanted Dragons)

//Spells (26)
4x Celestail Dawn (allows me to utilize all abilities and allows me to easily play Scion)
4x Duress (disruption)
3x Enlightened Tutor (fetches Artifact Lands, Dawn, EE, etc.)
2x Feldon's Cane (Allows me to recycle my dragons)
3x Gerrard's Verdict (disruption)
4x Vindicate (protection)
4x Infernal Tutor (fetches all and my hand is commonly empty for the Hellbent)
2x Engineered Explosive (great w/ dawn, i can go all the way up to full sunburst)

//SB (in progress)

The deck basically plays as a proactive control deck until I can get Scion up and Running.  I have many tutors to get pretty much w/ever I need.  My main problem is the lack of draw.  Besides tutoring, I have nothing to cycle through the deck.  I tried Howling Mine but I hated how we both drew 2 and Phyrexian Arena's Damage was to much.  I cant risk running Confidant b/c of the high mana costs.
After Scion is in play a rarely loose.  The toolbox is great.  I routinely start off by searching for Nicol Bolas and discarding their hand and then using any other  Dragon to take care of the Immediate problem. The decks does pretty well in the casual format and is a hell of a lot of fun to play but it would be great if it could contend w/ some higher level decks.  If you could tell me what you think and if there are some better card choices I'm all ears.

PS. After you use Scion's  {2} mana search ability, can you do it again after he becomes that creature.  It says he becomes a copy but does he keep the search ability even when he is a copy?  Thanks !

4  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Re: Akroma's TNT on: June 01, 2007, 03:18:24 pm
Although Skeleton shard can bring back cards, 1) They are only creatures,2) the great thing about welder is that he can bring back artifacts that cost say 7 mana for practically free.  I made a new test of the deck and I like it much more.  It still uses white and goes more control with Wrath of God and Armageddon.

4x Ancient Tomb
4x City of Traitors
3x Crystal Vein
3x Flagstones of Trokair
3x Plains
4x Remote Farm

4x Exalted Angel
4x Juggernaut
4x Masticore
2x Karn, Silver Golem

4x Akroma's Memorial
4x Cloud Key
4x Marble Diamond
4x Sword of Light and Shadow
4x Thran Dynamo
3x Armageddon
2x Wrath of God

I replaced the Razormanes with the Karns (he's killer with the high mana costed cards...Like Memorial)  I love the Geddons because I can easily stay alive.  Marble Diamonds allow me to keep white mana and Flags of Trokair allow me to find some new Plains after I clear the board.  I like the Sword of Light and Shadows because they act as a Skeleton Key, keep my life up from the Tombs, and pump my beaters.  I decided to just play a full set of Exalted Angels instead of random health regaining equipments.  This deck is much more effective and consistent than the other.

5  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Akroma's TNT on: May 29, 2007, 05:43:59 pm
The following deck is made for pure fun.  It is based around throwing out Akroma's Memorial for beaters like Masticoresand easy pump ups like Onithopter using Warhammer and various Swords. Surprisingly the deck has done very well but this is based on the casual metagame that is MWS.

Akroma's TNT

//Land 25
4x Ancient Tomb
4x City of Traitors
4x Crystal Vein
7x Plains
4x Remote Farm
2x Wasteland

//Creatures 16
3x Exalted Angel
4x Juggernaut
3x Masticore
4x Ornithopter
2x Razormane Masticore

//Spells 19
4x Akroma's Memorial
4x Cloud Key
2x Loxodon Warhammer
4x Sword of Fire and Ice
1x Sword of Light and Shadow
4x Thran Dynamo

I chose lands that offered massive mana acceleration.  Remote farm is a little lame but it can get the job done.  I tend to lose to much life from the Tombs so I have Sword of Light and Shadow, Warhammer, and Angels to replace it.

I mainly chose creatures that were useful when Akromafied.  My first version of the deck was merely full of cheap creatures but I realized that a 1/1 Akroma is infinately worse than a 4/4 Akroma that can regenerate.  Juggernauts are used for a basic beatdown but its mere 3 toughness makes it way to vulnerable against burn.  The Masticores are great beaters, blockers, and creature killers. I'm thinking of dropping white for Welders to utilize the discarded cards from the Masticores.  Ornithopters are great to throw down first turn and later pump them up with an equipment of some kind.  I might add in Triskelions or even a Duplicant to the mix but without Tinker they seem useless.

When I first saw Akroma's Memorial I recognized that it is truly an awful but incredibly fun.  When I throw it down, the surprise on the opponents face is priceless.  I use Cloud Keys to decrease the mana of all artifacts which speeds up my game.  The equipments are to boost up my creatures to make them lethal even without the Memorial boost.

Thanks for reading and I hope you get past the ridiculousness of the deck and offer me some help for I will surely accept it!

Thank you for the help,

Hey guys,

Whats the difference in appearance between a revised and unlimited card border-wise?
7  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: Nomad's en-Kor+Spirituralist+Sanctum combo on: April 08, 2007, 07:04:57 pm
Regarding Clariax, I am aware of not being able to gain infinite life for I posted a question on if it existed a few months ago.  It was merely the term the opponent used.  Thank you for the responses.
8  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: Nomad's en-Kor+Spirituralist+Sanctum combo on: April 08, 2007, 02:00:59 pm
Thanks, thats a ridiculous combo.
9  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Nomad's en-Kor+Spirituralist+Sanctum combo on: April 08, 2007, 01:28:29 pm
First off, this isn't as much of a rules question as much as a combo does it work question.  When I was playing online, this guy put down a Nomad's en-Kor, a Daru Spirituralist, and a Starlit Sanctum and said he had infinite life.  I asked him why it worked because I couldnt figure it out but he didnt know English so he couldnt tell me, so...can you tell me how it works if it does?
10  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: Static Shock on: April 06, 2007, 07:41:34 pm
I really like this idea.  I also think that it does need the blue mana.  Mana tapping and draining is largely a blue ability.
11  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: Growing Vampire on: April 06, 2007, 07:39:19 pm
I really like the idea of fear, it gives it a realistic chance at flipping.
12  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: Growing Vampire on: April 05, 2007, 10:22:15 pm
Should I give the first creature flying already to give it more of a chance?
13  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Growing Vampire on: April 05, 2007, 05:47:41 pm

This card seems like a lot of fun and would probably find some play in black beat decks.

Growing Vampire
Creature -- Vampire
When Growing Vampire attacks and is unblocked, you gain 1 life.
When Growing Vampire attacks and is unblocked, put a blood counter on Growing Vampire
When Growing Vampire has 5 blood counters on it, remove all counters from Growing Vampire and Growing Vampire gains flying, +4/+3, and first strike.

Whatcha think?  Should it be a flip card?

Current Wording:
Vampiric Apprentice
Creature -- Human
Whenever Vampire Disciple attacks and isn't blocked, you may put a blood counter on Vampire Disciple.
At end of combat, if there are 5 or more blood counters on Vampire Disciple, you may remove all blood counters from Vampire Disciple and flip it.

Ilich, Vampire Lord
Legendary Creature -- Vampire King
Flying, first strike
Whenever Ilich deals combat damage to a player, that player loses 1 life.

When someone taps and sacrifices their Polluted Delta, can I in response kill that delta with a strip mine?
15  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: Carnivore of the Grave on: March 27, 2007, 02:24:07 pm
Yes, that is correct, is it to weak?
16  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Carnivore of the Grave on: March 26, 2007, 07:44:46 pm
Hey Guys,

I thought this would be a fun little card to shake things up a bit.  I first wanted to call it Detrivore for decomposing but it was already taken...

Carnivore of the Grave
 {B} {B}
Creature -- Zombie Insect
When ~this~ comes into play, destroy target creature that has already been dealt damage this turn.
~this~ power and toughness is equal to the destroyed creatures power and toughness divided in half to rounded up.

17  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Vigilance on: March 25, 2007, 10:35:30 am
When a creature with vigilance is tapped, can that creature still attack.

Ex:  My Razia, Boros Archangel is Bolted so I tap her to keep her alive, can i then attack with her even though she is tapped??
18  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: Singleton Factory on: March 25, 2007, 08:50:18 am
I really like Matt's variation.  It costs a lot less work and still does pretty much what i want it to do.

Hew guys, I was trying to initiate an Apprentice game Via internet with Schluabi and it didnt work.  t was the first time i ever used apprentice and when we hooked up and i hit OK to play, it wouldnt let me and said my "deck was out of bounds", even when i tried the premade decks.  If someone knows how to fix the problem, please let me know!!!

21  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Pithing Needle/Meddling Mage on: March 18, 2007, 05:04:38 pm
Lets say I play a pithing needle naming scroll rack, hen, I return my own Needle to my hand w/ Temporal Adept.  I then play the Same PIthing Needle again naming goblin welder.  Does the Needle affect bothe the Welder and the Rack even though it left play?  Same w/ Meddling Mage?

22  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Multicolor control on: March 17, 2007, 07:10:02 pm
In my deck I use the Fastbond combo as a backup win.  All the cards that go into that combo in my deck are helpful in their own way as well as being combined into a win.

Fastbond-Great for getting as much mana as possible ( I don't run all the power b/c i only own Sapphire/Lotus/and Ancestral Recall)
CoW-Good lockdown and anti wastes/strips
Zuran Orb-Perfect for when Im getting slowly killed by lameass beatdowns
Fastbond+CoW=Pay 5 life w/ a stripmine, they lost five lands Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
Fastbond+CoW+Zorb-I win

For my win condition w/ the Fastbond combo i use a multi purpose card like Earthquake.  Although stroke of genius can easily win by decking the opponent, I don't find much use for it outside of that.  In order to wish for it I have to spend about 7+ mana to get at least one card.  On the other hand, w/ earthquake, i can not only win, but can eliminate Welders and act as a cheap Wrath of God.

Also, besides the Colossus and Fastbond kills i run the classic Morphling.  So many times have i lost the game because they Swords my Colossus with more swords than i have counters.  Morphling is a great late game back up plan and is virtually invincible.

Also i recommend running wastelands or a Dust Bowl.  Although i haven't posted it, I play a Dust bowl.  It just rapes w/ CoW.

I also think you should test Mystical Tutor, it fetches almost everything in your deck.

I noticed you aren't maindeckin a Vampiric tutor, how come?  I find its really helpful getting your silver bullets out.  Also, how is Gifts Ungiven working out for you? And Fact or fiction?  I'm thinking about Maindecking the FoF...let me know how it works!! Very Happy Very Happy

Hope i was helpful!!

23  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Re: Fun with Wizards... and 2 Monks! on: March 17, 2007, 03:56:32 pm
Thanks much for the Advice!!  Teferi and Azami are both pretty effective but, due to their casting cost, ill just play the Teferis.  Instead of using the sages im probably gonna use a Top.  Also, regarding Ephraim, i really like the Jittes, the.  I also tested out Swords of Fire and Ice and they work well too.
24  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Weird People on: March 15, 2007, 05:11:56 pm
This one guy had a Big Gulp and wouldn't stop slurping it.  Even when it was finished, he would just reach over and take an obnoxiously long airy bubbly sip like the ones you randomly hear in the movie theaters...i was so pissed off.  I almost conceded just to leave!
25  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Fun with Wizards... and 2 Monks! on: March 14, 2007, 09:02:05 pm
Hey Guys!!  I decided to make a fun Blue/red wizards control/bounce deck.  Its pretty cool and it actually holds up pretty well!!

Wize Wizards// 60 (lame name...)

Creatures// 16
4x Temporal Adept
3x Trinket Mage
3x Voidmage Prodigy
2x Erayo, Soratami Ascendant (I Know hes not a wizard!)
4x Grim Lavamancer

Artifacts// 6
1x Pithing Needle
1x Tormod's Crypt
1x Engineered Explosives
1x Mox Sapphire
1x Mox Ruby
1x Black Lotus

Red Spells// 5
3x Red Elemental Blast
2x Fire//Ice

Blue Spells// 12
2x Merchant Scroll
4x Brainstorm
4x Force of Will
1x Ancestral Recall
1x Fact or Fiction

Land// 22
4x Rishadan Port
4x Volcanic Island
4x Flooded Strand
1x Strip
3x Wasteland
4x Island
1x Mountain

Sooo, i thought it would be fun to make a Blue/Red control deck with awesome wizards and the occasional Moonfolk Monk.  The Voidmage Prodigies gave me the idea and It turns out its pretty good ( i love how the prodigies allow me to sac a lavamancer or something and counter).  The Adepts just kick ass, it really pisses the opponent off.  Also, the Ports are really good in raping the mana base.  I put the tinker mages in the end (i kinda forgot about them).  This allowed me to thin out the deck with singleton artifact killers.  Let me now what you think of it and if I am missing some valuable cards!!

Hey guys,

My name is Kemper (no joke) and i live in Virginia.  I am only 14 so forgive b/c my writing skills aren't completely honed in.  I've only been playing magic for about 4 years.  I love Magic, especially Vintage.  I thoroughly despise Type II and Legacy formats.
28  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Bomberman on: March 14, 2007, 02:05:08 pm
I just reentered vintage a couple of months ago and there is a deck im unfamiliar with and i have heard the name circle around the forums...What's Bomberman.

PS. sorry if this seems to be such a lamebrained question.
