Do tapped blockers still deal damage in this version of old school?  It's an oft forgotten rule that was in place in the beginning of the game (tapped blocking creatures don't deal combat damage) that could be important if running something like Icatian Javelineers or Icy Manipulator...

And since I can't help myself, to weigh in on the point of contention here, I'm glad to support CE/Revised/Chronicles in order to broaden the player base. It's hard enough even allowing those sets to get more than a handful of players together at any given time/place, so I think restricting to just the "hardcore" Swedish allowed sets would be shooting all of us, including those who have Beta everything, in the foot. I'd much rather be able to play more matches against a greater variety of decks than be beholden to the most "pure" form of throwback elitism. I take the "pimpness" factor as a personal challenge to incrementally improve the aesthetic appeal and collecting accomplishment of my own decks, but I certainly don't begrudge opponents who want to participate but have less insane spending priorities.
Exactly. Even Sol'kanar is hard to find these days.

Going to try to make this. Some logistics questions:

Getting to Long Island - It appears that my options are fly into New York and take a series of trains or pay a a bit more and fly direct to ISP. How bad is that series of trains?

Getting around Long Island - The closest hotel is around 4 miles away. The airport is around 10 miles away. I assume calling $local_cab_co is the way to go. If so, what's the pricing like up there?

Doing stuff: I'm probably going to make this a vintage-only weekend. IE, I'm coming in Friday night and leaving Sunday morning. No going into the city for me. Is there anything going on Friday or Saturday night that an out-of-towner like myself might participate in?

My quick and dirty search turned up that flying to Islip is probably a loss for you, I think it is actually cheaper to fly into LaGuardia and actually rent a car.  Easier too, since you can just go wherever you want then and not have to deal with a cab company or the trains or any of that.

If you want, you can message me here or at The Source if you want to see what I uncovered.

Glad to read that you're going to try and make the event.

I'm going to assume that you're leaving from Penn Station, in Manhattan, as a starting point.  So long as that's the case, you're going to take the Long Island Railroad directly to Stony Brook (which is about five minutes away from the venue).  You are able to take a direct line to Stony Brook, so you shouldn't have to worry about switching trains.  You'd be able to cab it to the venue once you arrive at the Stony Brook station.

If you're staying in Queens, you're going to have to get to Jamaica Station.  Once there, you'd be able to hook up with the Stony Brook line, and make your way out to the event.  This will mean either subways or public transportation.

I don't know what the pricing is like for a cab from MacArthur Airport to the hotel (I'm guessing you're staying in Stony Brook), but I'd recommend calling one of the local cab companies to get a better estimate.  Village Taxi handles MacArthur Airport, their number is 631-588-1055.

There's a Vintage FNM at The Comic Book Depot on Friday, if you're hunting for more Vintage.  If you're looking for something non-Vintage related (on Long Island), Long Beach has a great boardwalk, and bar scene, as does Rockville Centre.  Depot is about five minutes away from the Bellmore train station; if you're going, I'm sure that I can find you a ride to the venue.

Shoot me a PM if you have further questions.

There was no pressure on you. You knew he only had cabal therapy, and you had to spend y.will to get rid of that irrelevant card, denying you the chance to play fow.

Playing painter you had fow alive, and next turn you could play y.will if you needed to, and tgz would be better (since he would have potentially 2 cards in hand).

Unless y.will was supposed to give more advantage, I see no upside to play it just for the irrelevant ritual... But this idea is yours, I just read it in your report Smile It's hard to make the optimal decisions in tournament play.

This was an enjoyable read Steve. Old School magic interests me a great deal. Unfortunately I'm unlikely to be able to play it any time soon, but if I had the opportunity I would gladly take it.

Round four is now available. Check it out and leave let me know how you would have handled the game three situation.

Bumping this to the top since I think some people have forgotten about it.

This is still happening!  Come out tonight and sling cards in preparation for this weekends monthly event!
