I'd been itching to build a new deck recently, as I've been getting very sick of 4cOath lately.  I sat down and looked at the old metagame and tried to figure out what would be a "good deck" for the field.  The field is mostly unpowered, with a lot of disruption balancing out the mostly combo-oriented field, and some sligh poking its head in here and there to overwhelm the mono-black decks.  With the lack of Mana Drains, Abysses and the like, I decided the following would make a good run.  Decklist and reasoning follows.

Tristal's Super Gro v3.0

Creatures: 14
4 Quirion Dryad (Obvious)
3 Serendib Efreet (Replaced Werebear.  Too many creatures in the environment to run Ophidian.  Block Hyppie, too big to burn.)
3 Meddling Mage (Anti-Combo.)
4 Savannah Lions (Helps the curve, pumps Dryad, etc.  This is surprisingly good.)

Answers: 9
3 Swords to Plowshares (Lots of creatures running around.)
4 Force of Will (Die, combo.)
2 Misdirection (No, edict YOU.)

Hahaha: 13
R Ancestral Recall
R Time Walk
R Fact or Fiction
1 Merchant Scroll (Almost always gets Recall - gets Force in a pinch.)
4 Peek (SO GOOD WITH MEDDLING MAGE.  Replaced Opt, and works wonders.)
4 Brainstorm (Best one mana cantrip.  Works very well with fetch lands.)
1 Gush (The multiple-Gush hand is a mulligan.  But one is still nice against LD.)

God, I'm a scrub: 2
2 Armadillo Cloak (Last minute addition.  These worked better than I could've expected.)

Mana: 22
R Strip Mine
R Mox Sapphire (I own Jet and no other Moxen - I didn't even realize I forgot to put Jet back in.)
R Library of Alexandria
1 Nantuko Monastery (Never got to test this much, but it seemed ok.)
1 Island
4 Tropical Island
4 Tundra
4 Savannah
4 Flooded Strand
1 Windswept Heath

Sideboard: 15!!!!!111111four
2 Tormod's Crypt (Oath, Worldgorger)
4 Disrupt (Black, Control)
2 CoP: Red (Mirror Match!!!!111)
2 Disenchant (Enchantress, Bridge)
2 Devout Witness (Ditto)
1 Powder Keg (Sligh, Elf)
2 CoP: Green

It's really just a hybrid of Super Gro and Zoo - minus the red of zoo, adding the search of Gro.  I've never liked playing red at all.  But you aren't reading this for deck analysis - on with the tournament.  Only 10 people showed up

Round 1: Ray, SurvivalOfTheLamest.dec

Ray and I are good friends, and he's easily one of the most feared competitors.  Fortunately for me, he's playing a pretty janky Survival deck based around Genesis and Rukh Egg.
Game 1, I crack a fetch land for a Tundra and drop a turn 1 Lion.  He Ancestrals EOT, I Misdirect, and he tries to Force when he realizes he has no other blue card.
1-0
In: 2 Tormod's Crypt, 2 Devout Witness, 1 Powder Keg
Out: 4 Peek, 1 Merchant Scroll
Game 2, he drops turn 2 Sylvan, but I drop turn 2 Meddling Mage naming Survival.  I have a pretty slow start, and his Rukh Egg comes out to block.  My Swords gets Forced, so my Cloaked Savannah Lion is forced to crack the egg.  He doesn't get much going with Sylvan however, and my forces quickly overwhelm him.
2-0

Round 2: Jeremy, DerfDerf.dec (AKA Sligh)
I respect this guy, he's one of my closer friends at home - and yet he shames himself, his family, and his kin for three generations by playing mono-red.  Come on, you're smarter than this.
Game 1: I drop first turn Lions again, and he drops first turn Mountain.  I give him a cold stare, which receives a smirk in return - he KNOWS he shouldn't be playing burn.  My Lion gets burned away, and so does a Dryad when I can't  Peek into any other pumps in response to an Incinerate.  The game looks like it's going poorly, until I drop Meddling Mage, naming the two Skizziks in his hand.  I Misdirect a Lightning Bolt to his face, and he proceeds to draw land after land.  He finds Zuran Orb (Mirror Match, or something?  Unfocused much?) which delays the inevitable for a while, but he never draws enough burn to kill me.
1-0
In: 2 CoP: Red, 2 Disenchant (Blood Moon worries)
Out: 4 Peek
Game 2, I start out quickly by dropping turn 2 CoP: Red.  He's got plenty of burn for my creatures, which prompts me to set up getting a huge Dryad.  I Force his fourth turn Anarchy, and the game looks all but over until he casts PoP.  I look at my life total (10), my non-basics out (5) and completely forget about my CoP: Red on the table.  I start to Brainstorm for answers when a passerby goes "Duh, CoP: Red, just scoop" and Jeremy puts his head in his hands.  I feel like an idiot, but out of fairness, I continue to try and Brainstorm for answers.  I end up Swordsing my own Lions to put me at 2 life, drop a Dryad and a Meddling Mage (naming Cursed Scroll, which he probably doesn't even own) and proceed to win in short order.
2-0

During this match, the game next to us proceeds to get crazier and crazier - it's an Aluren mirror match.  Matches like that just might keep me away from becoming a judge - it's really a nightmare.

Round 3, Cliff, Fluctuator.dec
Seems to be a new guy around the shop - I've never seen him before.  As soon as he sits down, he shows his lack of confidence in himself and his deck.  Never a good idea, but I suppose it's good foreshadowing.
Game 1, he drops first turn Slippery Karst.  Boy, that's a tipoff.  I Peek and confirm my suspicions; it's Fluctuator - a bunch of cycling cards and a Haunting Misery is what I see.  Yes, that means he has no second turn land.  To add insult to injury, I brainstorm into Strip Mine and leave him with no permanents to my 3 creatures.  I Merchant Scroll for Force and show him his brother Misdirection and two blue cards, and he doesn't concede.  Come on, that's overkill.
1-0
In: 2 Tormod's Crypt (I thought this worked against Haunting Misery), 2 Devout Witness
Out: 3 Swords to Plowshares, 1 Peek
Game 2, I drop second turn Meddling Mage naming Haunting Misery.  I quickly regret having sided out Swords as he drops Bloated Toad (protection from Blue), but fortunately I draw a Cloak for my Mage and keep swinging.  With no way to deal with the Meddling Mage, my screatures quickly overwhelm his.
2-0

After Round 3, I haven't lost a game.  Which is good enough for uncontested first place, as everyone else has lost a match thanks to some favorable pairings.  With only 10 people, they feel no need to run another round, so I earn first place and the privilege of putting a card up on the Wall of Fame - I choose Armadillo Cloak, for the gag value.

If you're still reading this, thanks for your time.  Any suggestions on the deck are appreciated.
