Hello everyone. I've been reading these forums for about two months now, and although I've applied for membership I haven't been approved yet, so I think that this new forum is a great idea. Only time will tell how much it will be used.

Some background: I started playing magic just prior to the Dark, but like many people I stopped playing for several years after Iceage. Upon returning to Magic I found that all my favorate cards were no longer "legal".  I also quickly learnt that trying to keep up with the changing tournament types was expensive (and no fun). So I found Vintage. Being completely unpowered, I have proxy played several different decks against my friends who are also exploring Vintage. Although I love Enchantress, I am realistic about my chances of getting together any deck that requires power in the next while. So I'm plaing Parfait and loving it.

Here is my current deck list. I now own most of these cards or am actively trying to obtain them.

14 Plains
1 Lotus Petal
1 Sol Ring
3 Wasteland
1 Strip Mine

4 Land Tax
2 Sacred Mesa
2 Wrath of God
4 Swords to Plowshares
1 Balance
1 Enlightened Tutor
1 Karmic Justice
3 Seal of Cleansing
4 Argivian Find
2 Orim's Chant
1 Humility
2 Story Circle
1 Jester's Cap
2 Replenish
1 Ivory Mask

1 Toromond's crypt
1 Soldevi Digger
3 Scroll Rack
2 Zuran Orb
2 Ivory Tower

The Sideboard.

1 Aegis of Honor
2 Toromond's Crypt
2 Orim's Chant
1 Blood Moon
2 Replenish
1 Sacred Mesa
1 Mountain
1 Aura Fracture
2 Aura of Silence
(yes, I know that's only 13)

I know that there are some unusual choices here.

Seal of Cleansing: I maindecked these over Aura of Silence simply because of the mana cost. 1W allows me to cast in addition to something else, rather than spending a whole turn on it. Also, it helps a little with my Jester's Cap problem, as described below.

Jester's Cap: This I maindecked in response to a maindecked Cap in a Keeper deck I was playing. By mulliganing aggressively, the Keeper play ensured that he always had a tutor or Cap in his opening hand. As I have no counterspells, he was able to take out my digger and Mesas in the opening rounds. Having no victory conditions left, I would inevidably loose. The first time I maindecked Jester's Cap he ignored it and I showed him that with the amount of recursion in my deck a Jester's Cap in my hands was a game ender. From then on he always removed the Cap (this also explains the 3rd Mesa in the Sideboard). I have also been considering adding two Factories to the maindeck over two plains. Testing shows that the mana base still works, but I'm wondering if there is a better way to add extra victory conditions.

The Metagame: A state of flux. With almost no active type 1 players outside of my friends and I this is really hard to define. Some of us are still proxying any deck we find interesting, others of us are settling down to build realistic powerless decks. I am the only Parfait player right now, but cheap aggro like Stompy and Sligh are beginning to appear.

So any advice/criticism is welcomed.  I also have the following questions.

1) Is maindecking a couple of Mishra's Factories a good idea? If not, what alternate victory conditions should I try instead?

2) I have experimented with REB versus mono blue and found that it works provided that you get the mana. Is this viable in a more highly powered metagame?

3) Due to the lack of cards around here for type 1 we have considered internet purchases. Any advice?

Thanks for your comments, and thank you Zerbus for this forum!

1) I would say no since Parfait is a deck that wants to run off as little lands in play as possible. Not only do Mishras count as lands, but they require another land to activate which is even more painful without Mox Pearl.

2) What is REB gaining you that Swords, Abeyance, Chant cant do?

3) I go to eBay by default. I have had great service from both Alphabetaunlimited (magicthegathering.net) and cardhaus.com though the price were a bit steep. Starcitygames.com has been slow but somewhat reliable.

No problem, and its Zherbus Wink
