Help - Need some info for an Article

For what interactions was Voltaic Key initially restricted? I was not in type 1 at that point of my life.

Was it just part of the Academy Package, or was it for Grim Monolith, Time Vault, or something else?

I know for sure it wasn't because of Time Vault- just check the Vault's errata. I'm fairly certain that it was around the time of the whole Academy "package", and Grim Monolith/Mana Vault didn't help it any either.

Voltaic Key was restricted during the great combo-bannings on October 1st 1999 so I'm pretty sure it was taken out on the sheer principle that it's a cheap artifact capable of "generating" mana. For reference that's the same date that Crop Rotation, Doomsday, Dream Halls, Enlightened Tutor, Frantic Search, Grim Monolith, Lotus Petal, Mana Crypt, Mana Vault, Mind Over Matter, Mox Diamond, Mystical Tutor, Tinker, Vampiric Tutor, Bargain and Will bit the dust.

It was taken out (restricted) for it's interaction with all of the aforementioned cards (Grim Monolith, Mana Vault), as well as it's interaction with Candelabra of Tawnos (which was already unrestricted since late 1997), which made Academy totally gross.
