Dante:
I think I understand EXACTLY what you have said.  I was under the assumption when I wrote the original post that the average reader could make the correct play based on probability without having to think about it.  This is tmd.com afterall, right?  It should be second nature.  Bluffing and recognizing tells can only enchance your game if your mathematical play experience is up to snuff.

Nice read!

I think giving all readers credit for having solid gameplay and knowledge of the correct play is giving way too much credit, even here.  IMO, the number of people here that actually playtest enough (or well enough and recently enough) that I consider "having a good, solid game" are in the minority.  And I include myself in that, having slipped lately and not having really playtested since December.  That was one of my main points (and others here too, probably yourself as well), was not to get too focused on these aspects until you have a solid basis of the environment.  This is impossible without up to date testing and an honest evaluation of your own playing and testing (or in most people's cases, including my own recently, lack thereof).

Thank you Bill,
That's an excellent comparison.  I'm a chips that don't have money behind them poker player, have been for several years and playing strong hands has won me more not real money than anythig else.  I only know the tells on my little brother and a few friends, thats a long time I've played with them.  Any stranger, unless the are like "GUSH LOOK AT MY X" your just not going to know the tells.  Bluffing in magic is pretty limited, hold excess land maybe, you'd never give up yuor turn for a bluff.  The turn structure isn't built like poker, there isn't a way to "call" or "check" plays, the game in type 1 is so damn fast that your either going off or responding to your opponent going off.  You also don't play the sam eperson for hours or even a seven or five game series, so adjusting is difficult and establishing a read pattern is near impossible due simply to volume of info alone.  Confidence on te other hand will help you with more than poker and magic.
