Is it me, or does has Wizards undergone a MAJOR artwork upgrade? The average piece of ert for the last few sets has been so-so (with the occasional INSANELY bad one like Trinishpere, Damping Matrix). But from what I've seen in the previews, Fifth Dawn is set to look really good, art-wise:

Reminds me of the GURU lands a little.

New hottest magic chick?

I need to get me one o'them.

Last but not least:

[EDIT] Oops....pristine angel is obv. Darksteel. But still Smile Is it me, or do these cards look really, really good?

The hairline on the new Soul Warden looks kinda crappy, but other than that, it's a DRASTIC improvement on the trash we got from Mirrodin.

I think Mirrodin had tons of great art too; Silver Myr, Voltaic Construct, Wizard Replica, Myr Enforcer, the artifact lands... And the mentioned cards in foil are just -nuts-.

It's like always, some brilliance, some pure manure. I doubt fifth dawn will be any different.

I actually thought the new Soul Warden had pretty shitty art, but I do like the Pristine Angel cover right there.  Smile

I agree with CF's sentiment.  I feel that it's tough to have a high level of consistancy throughout an entire set, espically with different artists.    I love the art work in Last Word but hate Juggernaut (huge disappointment).  Further, some artists in my opinion are just better with style and freshness.  Take for example the Spiderman comic book artists.  In my opinion, when Macfarlane penned Spiderman he was unbelievable and really grew the popularity of that comic as well as making a name for himself.  When Larson took over spiderman, it took a while for everyone to catch one to his new style.  I prefer Macfarlane's artwork over Larson but eventually I grew to appreciate Larson's style.  I probably will never appreciate the new juggernaut but I may eventually catch on to other artists and their style overtime.

After seeing today's preview, I'm just hoping the rest of the mechnical art looks good. Because a lot of these cards with the females are just not coming out that well.

So, basically, you mean how scantily clad they are?

So as to not get distracted by the females, I will now post another maginifent piece of art. Stuff like this makes me wish 6x9" cards were the standard for the game...

Also: fist of suns art updated (bigger pic) in the original post.
