I was looking at all the boring new counterspells people were coming up with (no offence) and got a brainstorm today. An idea for a new counterspell, one thats never been done before.

Lets see what you think of this!

Chain Counter
{U}{U}{X}
Instant
Counter X target spells or abilities.
Legend speaks of mages so powerful, they were able to nullify an opposing wizard's spells altogether.

I like this card. It may be a bit situational, but at least it's a hard counter for a spell OR ability for 3 mana. I don't think it's overpowered and I'd sure like to see what you guys think!

The card is great, but that flavor text was an affront to humanity--I removed it.

I'm glad you guys like the idea, can I get some more non-pokemon related suggestions for flavour text and/or ideas to improve the card?

I'll use Frappie's for now!
EDIT: Thought of some nice flavour text from his inspiration.

Note how this one countering spells AND abilities makes it devastating in multiplayer, when one person drops some all'destructing thing (Jokulhaups, Balance) and then all other players start responding by sacking all their stuff for cards/life/fun.

Counter the Balance AND all sac-effects. That's funny Smile

I like cards that can counter abilities.

you can't just say "abilities" though, because that includes static abilities, which can't be countered. I'd change it to "spells and activated abilities".

I don't know if that needs to be explicitly stated since static abilities can't be responded to anyway, as they don't pass priority before they resolve.

Countering triggered abilities is much rarer than countering activated abilities. I don't think this should get to do that AND everything else. Limiting it to spells and just activated abilities is good enough.

How does this work?  Does it set up a "counter shield" that counters the next X spells or abilities that go on the stack, or does it counter X spells or abilities on the stack?

It targets, so the spells/abilities would have to already be on the stack.

This is funny VS a Dryad, if you have a ton of mana after a counterwar.
