Greetings everyone this is my Waterbury tournament report (my first big tournament)). Not because I did so well, actually once you read what transpired one would think I am a terrible player. By the way I finished 18th. and I am a dumbass. Oh, and my notes aren't always the best, so if I make a mistake or forget a name please forgive me.

This is what I played, I would only change one card in the SB , and that would be to put a hibernation (screw you Big O!) in for a vamp tutor(never used once).

Enslaver (I believe a German version)

60 card deck
15 card SB

Creatures 8
-----------------
4 Welders
2 Gorilla Shamans (These guys are the MVP's in the mirror match, I actually Demonic tutored for one)
1 Platinum Angel
1 PentaBUS (I heard someone else call this Panty Bus, but that name is with held :B)

Counter Spells 8
------------------------
4 Mana Drain
4 FOW

Draw 9
---------------------
1 Memory Jar
1 Ancestral Recall
3 Brainstorm
4 Thirsts (I am greedy and this will lead to my undoing, toooo thirsty!)

Other Good Stuff 6
---------------------------
Tinker
Y. Win
DT
Time walk
2 Cunning Wish

Removal 4
---------------------------
2 Mindslaver (removes lots of stuff!!!!!111!!!)
2 Fire/Ice

Mana Production 25
------------------------------
7 SoLoMoxen
1 Mana Crypt
1 Mana Vault
4 Islands
4 Volcanics
1 Shivan Reef
1 LOA
4 Polluted Deltas
2 Underground Seas

SIDEBOARD
------------------------
2 REB
2 BEB
2 BLOOD MOON ( <3 Jazzy <3 Blood Moon <3)
2 Tormod's Crypts
3 Rack and Ruin
1 FOF
1 Echoing Truth
1 Vamp Tutor (I never used this, I wish it was Hibernation)
1 Fire/Ice

Round 1 vs. Kevin and his Sweet Dreams

Kevin is a really JAZZY person. He has had together this diabolical creation for I believe 8 years and decided to update it. He tries to kill an opponent with megrim and underworld dreams. While that may seem like a joke, but with a dreams and a megrim on the table, in a best-case scenario I take five from a thirst.

The first game I go really low to 2 actually, thanks to an early underworld dreams but I get a late slaver lock up and running and beat him down with pentabus.

The second game I sideboard a red blast I believe in for a mox monkey, and then attack him with welders, then pentabus, then I get him in a slaver lock.

Matches 1 0 0  Games 2 0 0

Round 2 vs. Cuenco in the mirror, except I MD 2 mox monkeys

Nick is a very formal and methodical player.

First game was a farce I wrecked his sapphire with a first turn monkey and he was stuck on 1 land for a lot of turns. I had a crap hand of tons of land, but it proved infinitely better than no land. It will be a recurring theme for me to take bad hands with library in them, and win all day (no wastelands, YEAH!!!!)

For the second game in go 2 tormods crypts and 2 rack and ruins (maybe a blue blast in here).  I take out, memory jar, 2 brainstorms, and platinum angel. This game goes really long. I crypt him early with his pentabus in the yard and he was reduced to welder beat down. He slaves me throughout, and loses the slave lock, and he keeps nibbling on me with his welders.

It goes to time, and the last big play was on turn 4, me at 3 life, and him at 6. He has a welder that will no doubt be attacking. I had a force, and a drain in my hand, with mana to cast both. He thirsts in hope to find a fire, I FOW, he mana drains. He doesn't find a fire. He then attack me, I am at 2 now. He burns for 5 bringing him to one. I top deck crap and we draw this game. Obviously he would have killed me in two more turns, as he had a lot of cards in his hand.

Matches 2 0 0 Games 3 0 1

Round 3 vs. Ultima (WTF I didn't think I was supposed to play famous mana drainers so early) playing GAT

Ultima is a class act and a very good player. At least I know what he is playing GAT. But he is Ultima, and I told him that I was rather disconcerted as he is a person actually building decks and I am just a netdecker.

First game I don't remember much except that he gets out an early dryad that pummels me, I sneak out a relatively early slave. He has deed on the board as well but didn't blow it for one (to kill monkey and welder or couldn't) On the slave with his deed still out he top decks tog, I pop deed for 0, cast tog, obliterate hand and board, and I preceded to drop pentabus and infinite lock him.

Second game I sided in blood moons for F/I and a REB for a mox monkey. He gets out an early BIG dryad and proceeds to smash my skull for a while, then I drop blood moon, and he can’t get rid of it. Things go south for him after that.

Matches 3 0 0   Games 5 0 1

Round 4 vs. Ben playing tog

Ben is a funny fellow and we both joke a bit about having the math right all through out our games.
I don't remember the first game except I slave him at one point and screw him over, then hit him with the bus.

Second game in comes the blood moons and crypts for 2 F/I, memory Jar, and a brainstorm. I kept in my angel by accident but she was useful. This game finds me sneaking out an early blood moon. I slave him at some point and make him use his demonic tutor for lotus, to make him waste his blasts by grabbing a lotus, and leaving him with a lone sapphire and island to find blue. I then R&R off his jet and pearl to disallow him the use of yawg win (just in case) and the rest was downhill for him.

Matches 4 0 0 Games 7 0 1

Round 5 vs. Paul playing GAT

Paul is the top ranked composite player in Connecticut and will be going to the pro tour.

GAT again? He beats me first game, with a big dryad. But match kind of eludes me other than <3 blood moon <3 winning the second and third games.

Matches 5 0 0    Games 9 1 1

Round 6 vs. Carl Winter Keeper
Intentional draw, I think he would have broke all my toys though I saw one of his hands playing against another slaver deck and it was loaded with disenchant, rack and ruin, and stp. I was very excited to meet my first Meandecker.

Matches 5 0 1

Round 7 vs. David Big O
Another intentional draw, although we played the first game and I lost thanks to his first turn arrogant wurm, and rootwalla, and of course null rod sometime later to seal the deal.

Matches 5 0 2

Round 8 vs. Ray mirror I got monkeys though

I throw away both games through terrible play mistakes especially the second game. Anyone at the tournament would have heard me bitch about my bad playing. He apologized, but I told him that I was angry at my poor playing and that he played excellently. I shook his hand and wished him good luck. There was much lamenting and gnashing of teeth. I am such a whiner, but I cursed myself because I don’t blame things on luck or random people.

I finish 18th because I was a dumbass after flawless victories.

Honestly, in round 8 I was very tired and would not have went far in the top 16 even if I did beat Ray. I hope he did well. I learned that 4 hours of sleep and 2 hours of driving do not equal top performance for more than 12 hours of magic.

I guess my small redemption was that I pulled a ravager out of 1 of my 2 darksteel packs and I NEVER open packs (I have tons of draft sets) I just didn’t feel like doing anything with them.

Props:
<3 BLOOD MOON <3 Winning games all day!

LOA for getting so many opening hands with it (I will never play
a “control deck without it)

T1 for being laid back enough to allow people to take back moves (I allowed it a few times, and I feel that they made an honest error and were not trying to trick me into reacting)

The TO and all its staff for making it well and efficiently run, and providing a lot of opportunities to play magic-NOTE: I just read about Stock's Tourny and he didn't give away a Lotus, the prizes and stuff at waterbury were way better!

My ghetto proxies!

Bryce and Kowal for killing people with Urza’s Rage (Kowal even kickered his!!!!!!11111!!!!!!!)

The girls who played magic, we need more ladies to play so that the tournaments will at least smell and look better :B

Slops:
ME -My draws were so good and my deck loved all day. I knew what I had to do to win but didn’t do it.

Congrats on the excellent playing. I know how much sleep depravation can mess with your head. Its nice to see Slavery being played everywhere, showing people the true power of Gleemax.

How good were the Fire/Ice for you? Why the three Brainstorms? I would have cut the F/I for another Slaver and Brainstorm.  Thougths?

Oh yeah, and Urzas Rage>other cards.

Kickered Urza's Rage>Every Other Card!!!!!!!!!!!111!!!. Seriously though you really need 3 Slavers and 4 Brainstorms is a must. Brainstorm is so good it must be a 4 of.

Why 3 brainstorms: simple I expected to see slaver add nauseum at Waterbury and since atog lord's version played three (although he wanted to get in the 4th) I decided that mox monkeys were very important.

I felt that the key to beating drain slaver was mox monkey and it was. In the match I fucked up on: I dt for a monkey. Cast him, eat my opponents saphire and weld out his slaver before he slaves me(I may a few heads up plays)!!!!!

The fire an ice, were obviously never dead and they were random utility most of the time and of course they killed welders :B. I don't like 3 because in some matches I just cycle them, which isn't something I think is so amazing.

BTW I am considering fitting Urza's rage in my board :B

Also I would like to thank Rich for the SBing tips and Rudy as well.
