I know I can always turn to my helpful friends on TMD when I need help finding something on the net.  Here is my situation.

I am looking for the cd changer that can hold the absolute maximum number of cds.  So far I have found many, many 400 cd changers, but nothing that for more than 400 cds...can anyone help me...what is the most cds a system can change, and where do I order it?

Thanks,
Ray

I was once asked on MWS, what the highest I ever finished at a TMD Open was.  I replied, "I've never played in a Waterbury.  I was then called "A TOTAL NOOB!"

Try Escient at  www.escient.com.  The problem is that most of the megachangers have been replaced by HUGE hard drives.  One store in Beantown sells daisy chained 1 TB drives as changers, with chains up to 10 TBs.  That is a HUGE number of CDs.  The "real disc" changers are a thing of the past and will probably be gone totally in a year or two.

ONE TERRABYTE OF MUSIC?!?!?!?  I have only twice in my life seen people on DC++ hubs with over a terrabyte of ANYTHING.  Even at very high quality that is about TEN THOUSAND CDs.

Goodwin's High End Audio will custom built you a system using Escient controls and Lacie TB drives and the control can daisy chain up to 10 drives, each 1 TB.  In Boston there are a quite a few people that can use that.  I used to work for an installer, before law school, and Joey Hamilton, Mo Vaughan, Doris Kearns Goodwin, and Malcolm Lowe all bought stuff through the store I worked at.  They all had tons of music, especially Lowe, who is the concertmaster for the BSO.  I think he had like 10-20,000 CDs.  It is his job I guess.  Still that is ONE drive, at totally uncompressed ratios.  Boggle the mind even more: Meridian has a lossless packing scheme that can compress a CD at a ration of 2:1 without sonic degradation.  That is a TON of music on those drives.
