Whenever you attack with at least one creature, target opponent loses two life and you gain two life.

He's a nice creature that encourages you to attack. Cleric is a natural creature type for white and black to share, but it seems a bit off that a cleric would be happy to see combat. Suggestions on this (and names relating to your solution) are appreciated.

The Kurain monks had always cared for soldiers wounded in battle, but when the war drew too near to their monestary, they realized their talents could be of more use outside the garden walls.

Even for a rare, I think you need to increase the casting cost. This is a strong effect. If this guy comes down on the second turn, then he, himself, must be blocked and killed as fast as possible. Otherwise, every turn, you've got the potential to increase the gap between your life and your opponent's life by 6 points. That's a big swing. Furthermore, combine this with something really stupid, like Nuisance Engine, and it may as well read, 'sacrifice a creature: target opponent loses 2 life and you gain 2 life' - much, much better than Cabal Archon's ability on a creature that costs less. To be honest, I think that if this card is costed at a point to be playable, it's a very easily broken effect, while if it isn't playable, it's not really worth making. I don't know if it's really a fair sort of ability to make at all.

Is the idea to have this trigger once per combat, or once per creatre? Once per combat is sorta weak, and it's very similar to Overwhelming Instinct, which you could actually use as a template. Once per creature is damn powerful, it's the kind of mechanic that would make an aggro weenie deck viable.

My only problem is that being black makes it more difficult to remove.  Aside from that its strong but not overtly so.
EDIT: On second thought the black thing isnt too bad given smother and devour in shadow (fifth dawn).

It's strong, not too strong. Definately a rare though. If you want this to be an uncommon, make it 1/1, and only lose and gain 1 life. Speaking of which: there is really no reason for this to be a 2/2.

Since the power department has been fixed, I may as well go for flavour.

So far I have thought of two solutions:

1. The cleric does not need to fight for its ability to work - he merely imbues powerful spirits into the warriors.  Name: Soul Infuser

2. Change the creature type to Knight.  Knight is a common creature type for black and white as well (see Black Knight, [card]Knight of Dusk[/card], [card]Marauding Knight[/card]) and is much more battle-happy than clerics.  Name: Wayward Herald

There's no real reason for it be ANY particular size, so I went with the 'standard' size for a human to be.

I have been thinking about how to abuse this and it seems that white has a lot of small critters so why not increase the amount of attacking creatures to 2.  If this is done I think it balances out the card a little bit more, but still an overall awesome card.
