I haven't played in about 2 months, and tested this pile the night before...

'Milk & Serial'

// Mana
    5 Moxen
    1 Black Lotus
    1 Sol Ring
    1 Mana Crypt
    1 Mana Vault
    6 Island
    1 Library of Alexandria
    2 Underground Sea
    4 Polluted Delta
    4 Volcanic Island

// Creatures
    4 Goblin Welder
    1 Pentavus
    1 Platinum Angel

// Spells
    1 Tinker
    4 Mana Drain
    4 Force of Will
    4 Thirst for Knowledge
    3 Brainstorm
    1 Ancestral Recall
    1 Memory Jar
    2 Mindslaver
    1 Time Walk
    2 Cunning Wish
    1 Yawgmoth's Will
    1 Demonic Tutor
    3 Fire/Ice

// Sideboard
SB: 2 Blood Moon
SB: 4 Rack and Ruin
SB: 4 Red Elemental Blast
SB: 1 Vampiric Tutor
SB: 1 Fact or Fiction
SB: 1 Hibernation
SB: 1 Echoing Truth
SB: 1 Shattering Pulse

I get mana screwed all night, and can't win more games than when they draw more lands then I do.  Andy (WhiuteMage05), Alden Earle, Brendan (Misemaster) and I had already done some card swapping, so I couldn't change my choices around.  Last time I went, the meta had been heavy on Big O and control, so I board in the Hibernation.  I go the the tourny hoping to win a few games and have some fun.

Round 1 vs. Jay with Belcher

He wins the roll, and Land Grants, revealing to me 2 Brainstorms, 1 ESG, a Vampiric Tutor, and a Trendils of Agony.  I assume it's some new crazy build of storm combo, so play the match like it is.  I get a Jar out the turn after he Vamps, milling away a Wheel of Fortune followed by Ancestral Recall, Lotus, Yawg Will, and Trendils.  I have Angel out in case he goes off along with a Welder just in case he can kill it.  He drops a Charbelcher, and passes his turn.  He kills my Welder, then Angel, and I have to find an answer.  I dig and tutor my way into a Yawg Will that allows me to re-play Time Walk with Tinker -> Mindslaver.  On the walk turn I activate it, then kill him with his own Belcher.  I board in some Rack and Ruins for the 2 Fire/Ice and 2 Wishes.

Game 2 was kinda vague, but my notes say I slaved him before he drew a Belcher, playing a LED and saccing his hand.  I just kinda won from there with an infinite lock a few turns later.

2-0-0 Games, 1-0-0 Matches

Round 2 vs. Joe with Zombie.dec

I get paired down, and expect to win.  He opens with an 8th Ed Swamp, and passes.  I drop some moxen and get ahead of him pretty fast, keeping some critters off the table until I have a Pentavus and Welder out.  He ends up drying my counters out, and plays Living Death and pummels me the next turn.  I was pretty mad, and bring in my FoF from the board for something useless.

Game 2 I get a quick infinite lock on him without much trouble thanks to Platnum Angel being on my side.

Game 3 is the same as above, just without the Angel part.

4-1-0 Games, 2-0-0 Matches

Round 3 vs. Brendan (Misemaster) with GroStill

He's a friend of mine, and we play a lot together.  Remember that I couldn't win a game the night before.  Game 1 is really boring for both of us.  We both counter some stuff, and neither of us can get any tempo/card advantage going.  He gets a Dryad out and beats me down 3 life at a time.  I bring in ReB's and Moons.

I open my hand with Mox, Volcanic, Fetch, Blood Moon, FoW, and a blue card.  I play Fetch, pass.  I drop my mox, and Volcanic, fetch an Island, and Blood Moon resolves.  He gets no Islands all game, and he can do nothing but watch me win.

Game 3 was intresting.  He kills/counters 3 Welders, and strips all my lands.  I have a Jet out, and he's got Null Rod.  I start drawing better stuff than him, and eventaully end up winning.  My notes for his life end at 18, so I'd assume I got a lock on him or he just scooped after some big play.

6-2-0 Games, 3-0-0 Matches.

Round 4 vs. Steve (Unearthly) with Ravager.

This was the guy I was hoping to to meet all day.  I have no hate for him outside of Rack and Ruins and Welders, which dicide to run and hide for this match.  Game 1 I Tinker out an Angel that ends up beating him down before he can get an Ornithopter out to block it with.  I bring in all I can in terms of Rack and Ruins.

Game 2 I get hims down to 12, and he drops like 4 artifacts all at once which puts me in killing range.  I can't block, so I die.

Game 3 goes to time.  We both drew Time Walk, thankfully for me.  Had he had one more artifact and kept both Ravagers on the table I would've lost.

4-2-1 Games, 3-0-1 Matches.

Round 5 vs. TJ Henery with the Mirror.

Some of you guys might remember him as the kid to gave someone two Tundras to get the win for a game he lost.  Anyways, he ends up Tinkering out a Pentavus for some fast beats, but I Tinker out an Angel on my turn to nuter his fat.  Sooner or later, I've set up a pretty big Yawg Will, and proceed to win out from there.  I bring in 2 Rack and Ruins, along with my usual 3 ReB's (I couldn't cut anything else for the 4th).  I think to myself for the 2ed time in a row how much I wanted Shamans in my board.

Game 2 I keep a good hand with 2 lands and a Mox, along with a turn 1 Welder.  He drops an Island and an off-color mox (I think), and passes.  He doesn't get any more mana for a long time until I've gotten a huge board advantage going.  He plays a Sol Ring along the line, which gets Racked and Ruined along with his mox.  He tells me this is the third or fourth (I forget) game of the day he's gotten mana screwed.  Maybe jsut bad luck or not enough mana.  Who knows...

6-2-1 Games, 4-0-1 Matches.

Round 6 vs. Someone playing R/G Beats

We draw into Top 8 after I double check my points.

Top 8 Match vs. Jairs (JDawg13) with Gay/R

I've never played this matchup, as I've been out of the loop due to being a high school senior.  He took better notes, so I'm stealing this from his report.

Game 1:

He starts with some early pressure from a Gorilla Shaman, Cloud of Faeries and Spiketail Hatchling.  A second Spiketail and a Grim Lavamancer join forces to apply serious pressure.  I Ancestral myself with 3 lands untapped.  I've got Yawg Will which he knows I have, and a Lotus in my hand.  Icaculate it out, and dicide to go for it.  He sacs his 2 Spiketails to slow me down a little, but I added that in before I played it out.  I Walk, reccur a Welder along with Ancestral.  I proceed to Weld in my Pentavus which puts him on defense.  The first thing I thought of was Mike Flores' atricle on mis-assignment of roles.  He tries to race me, but Pentavus and Welder are to much for him to remove stuff off the table once I've burned away his Lavamancer.  I bring in 4 ReB's and FoF.

Game 2:

He FoW's something of mine early, and plays fome fish-type creatures.  I proceed to send them to the yard with a Fire, then follow it up with a Tinkered Pentavus that beats him down to 8.  He's got a lotts of wennies to block with, so I stop swinging, with the board at a stalemate.  He Fires a Welder, and eventually Racks and Ruins away my Pentavus and Sol Ring.  I can't make any dudes, and find a Null Rod resolving foloowed with some beats from manlands.  He keeps burning my dome with a Lavamancer until he runs out of cards in his graveyard, so he gets me down to 2.  By now he has 2 Lavamancers and 1 red source out.  I'm getting nervous, draw the land I needed, and hardcast (w00t) Angel.  He doesn't draw red source #2, and I fly over his men.

Top 4 Match vs. Steve (Unearthly) with Ravager.

Game 1 He does that Ravager thing.....

Game 2 I have 3 Goblin Welders and do some cool stuff with them.

Game 3 He had a Diciple of the Vault out that I had forgotten about, and I lose because I see no harm in taking a Ravager swing with him having < lethal out.  But that Diciple doubles the damage, and I lose a game I could've won.

Props:
To Gary for finally paying me back the $180 he owed me in cash.
To Andy and Brendan for getting pulled over in the parking lot and NOT getting a ticket.
Andy for dropping to see his brother after making Top 8.

Slops:
Gorillia Shaman having alergies to my decklist.
Andy for dropping to see his brother after making Top 8.
Diciple of the Vault for looking like an artifact land.

Hey, just letting you know who's who around here...JDawg13 is Jaris...Unearthly is Steve, but he hasn't posted in a while...just figured I'd straighten that out Smile

Great report.  Hope to play against you again some time.

Good report Mike. Congrats on making top four.

My current list plays four Brainstorm and two Fire/Ice. The fourth Brainstorm should help fix your mana a little. However, I certainly won't call the 3/3 split wrong.

Also, I'm convinced that a Fact or Fiction needs to be in the main deck, but I'm still experimenting with what should be cut for it.

How can you justify not running 4 Brainstorm to yourself or your mother?

@Semmy: I really can't other then that it's my deck, and that I never had problems with only running 3.  I've been playing around with 2 Fire and 4 Brainstorms after talking to Rich about a week ago, and never really saw any diffrence then before.  Besides, Rich said in the post above yours that there's nothing wrong with the 3/3 split, it's really just a personal choice.  (He's also just informed me he's won two peices of power with the 3/3 split if you care for results to back up words.)  Though I only saw one mirror match all day, there were 4 other Control Slavers there than myself.  I'll admit to a bad metagame call on my part with no Shamans, but the 3 Fires impact the mirror enough for me to like the third, and though I didn't face it, they help the difficult FCG matchup.  I don't want this turning into an old keeper dicussion about why your one card is more viable than my one card.

On the other hand, if I were to move FoF to the MD while using Rich's list, then I'd cut Brainstorm #4.  But I'm not using his list, and I preffer my FoF in the board using the 'Berserk Theory' from Hulk decks (could be in the MD, but it's not always needed).

Riiiiiiiiiiight. About the making top8 thing.

My day in a nutshell:
After almost getting a ticket my nerves are a little shaken. Anyways. In recent tournaments I've done really bad, so I wasn't really planning on making top8 (bad attitude!!!). As it turns out, my birthday was the next day and my brother was coming in from Boston to play a round of Golf with me and my dad. I figured, sweet! I'll play some magic, I won't top8, and then I'll bounce to get in a round of golf.

(I lost my notes!!)
Round 1: BYE!!!! (1-0)
Round 2: I lose. (1-1)
Round 3: I lose again. (Red green beats!) (1-2)
Round 4: Paired down against some wicked bad deck. I can't even remember it. All I remember is WICKED bad CoP: Red ownage from my SB and an Angel for the win.  (2-2)
Round 5: Up against some janky monoBlue deck and I own it. (3-2)
Round 6: Vs. TJ playing slaver. Like the rest of the day he gets totally mana screwed and I win. (4-2)

I FTK in. Who saw that coming? It was either going to be me or TJ and I didn't want to take the chance of losing the pearl. However, I was plannig on leaving to play Golf anyways. I almost cut a deal with him, to get him into the top8 and then buy the Pearl for 150 BUT I'm going to three concerts this summer and owe my dad about 2500 for my car....so I'll go for the $15 Mox. Well. As I inderstood it, Misemaster's match was going to decide whether or not I would make top8. I left without knowing. Oh well. Seeing my brother was good and I beat both my dad and bro in Golf so HA!

Props:
The Cop who pulled Brendon and I over for not giving us a ticket.
My mom for making a hugeass breakfast.
Darksteel Alden for sending his evil spirit to keep him in the computer.
My 5-iron.
My Pitching wedge.

Slops:
Gary for starting the tournament 45-55 minuntes late. (I might have been able to play my top8 match!!!!!).
My 5 wood.
My putter.
