Fun with stifle

just need to make sure of something:
Can Stifle be used to counter the fading ability, resulting in the fading card having no counters on it?

Removing fade counters at the beginning of upkeep from a fading card is a triggered ability so Stifle will be able to counter it.

The phrase "Fading [X]" means "This permanent comes into play with X fade counters on it"

you can't stifle it to have it cip with 0 counters, afaik

I should have read the question more carefully. Fading's first ability, ""This permanent comes into play with X fade counters on it" is a replacement effect and not a triggered ability so it cannot be Stifled.
