Brainstorm text - Draw three cards, then put any two cards from your hand on top of your library in any order.

Plagiarize text - Text (TO): Until end of turn, if target player would draw a card, instead that player skips that draw and you draw a card.

So if an opponent brainstorms and you respond with plagiarize, brainstorm then reads - "player A (who played brainstorm) draws nothing and player B (who cast plagiarize) draws a card, then put any two cards from your hand (player a) on top of your library in any order".

So the player who cast brainstorm would draw 0, yet have to put two cards back right (the replacement effect just replaces the draw part, not the rest of the text)?

That sounds close, but why do you think that the player who cast Plagiarize would only draw one card? The texts of these cards seem very clear - the player who casts Brainstorm puts two cards on top of his or her library and the player who cast Plagiarize draws three cards.

Did you know that Red is the color or art and music and passion? Combine that with Green, the color of nature, spiritualism, and community and you get a hippie commune of drum circles, dreamcatchers, and recreational drug use. Let's see that win a Pro Tour.

because the rulings say that it is one draw effect that draws 3 cards, not 3 separate draw effects each drawing 1 card.....

Actually, the rules say that it's really three separate draws of one card each. Plagiarize replaces each of those with "plagiarize's caster draws a card".

Jacob and Ephraim are correct.

Each draw is a seperate event even though they are created by one effect.

So, Brainstorm becomes essentially:

"Your opponent draws three cards.  Put two cards from your hand on top of your library".

Actually it reads "3U:  Your opponent loses the game.  Play this ability only in New Jersey."   Wink

Plagiarize is such tech especially in NJ.  BTW how many people actually suffered from its awesomeness.  It seems to be a card that could now be sideboarded frequently.

In tournament play, two.  In casual play, four.

Casually, I nailed someone's Windfall with it, and drew ten cards.
