I've been tinkering around with solitaire-only decks using the new 5th Dawn cards and wondered if anyone else has been doing anything similar. I thought it might be fun to find a deck that goldfishes really fast using the new cards (but that wouldn't necessarily be a viable combo deck, since it's got no protection or disruption).

Anyway, since I couldn't possibly be the only one trying this, and since building a deck for solitaire only realistically fits into something like "casual" magic, I thought I'd post a few of my current creations here to start things off.

Who knows, maybe we might actually find some unnoticed card interactions.

This first one tries to use all the rituals available, coupled with Pentad Prism for mana fixing and with Ironworks to generate more colorless mana. It uses janky cards like Seething Song...

        2 Krark-Clan Ironworks
        4 Brainstorm
        1 Lion's Eye Diamond
        1 Crop Rotation
        4 Elvish Spirit Guide
        4 Tinder Wall
        4 Dark Ritual
        4 Seething Song
        4 Gemstone Mine
        2 Tendrils of Agony
        1 Mind's Desire
        4 Pentad Prism
        1 Future Sight
        1 Mystical Tutor
        1 Vampiric Tutor
        1 Demonic Tutor
        1 Necropotence
        1 Yawgmoth's Bargain
        1 Yawgmoth's Will
        1 Memory Jar
        1 Tinker
        1 Wheel of Fortune
        1 Windfall
        1 Timetwister
        1 Time Walk
        1 Ancestral Recall
        1 Tolarian Academy
        1 Lotus Petal
        1 Mana Vault
        1 Mana Crypt
        1 Sol Ring
        1 Black Lotus
        1 Mox Sapphire
        1 Mox Ruby
        1 Mox Pearl
        1 Mox Jet
        1 Mox Emerald

This is the other deck - it uses lots of colorless mana artifacts and Gilded Lotii to accelerate out intriguing spells such as Blinkmoth Infusion and Temporal Cascade. I tried Clock of Omens but it wasn't so good, since most of my artifacts had already been tapped down. Turn 1 Temporal Cascade - for the "shuffle graveyard and hand into library" part - seems like a lot of fun if it resolved in a real game Smile

        2 Krark-Clan Ironworks
        4 Chromatic Sphere
        4 Dark Ritual
        4 Gilded Lotus
        3 Thran Dynamo
        4 Basalt Monolith
        1 Grim Monolith
        1 Mana Vault
        1 Mana Crypt
        1 Sol Ring
        1 Lion's Eye Diamond
        1 Black Lotus
        1 Lotus Petal
        1 Chrome Mox
        1 Mox Diamond
        1 Mox Sapphire
        1 Mox Ruby
        1 Mox Pearl
        1 Mox Jet
        1 Mox Emerald
        4 Mishra's Workshop
        1 Tolarian Academy
        1 Yawgmoth's Will
        1 Yawgmoth's Bargain
        1 Ancestral Recall
        1 Timetwister
        1 Wheel of Fortune
        1 Windfall
        1 Memory Jar
        1 Tinker
        1 Demonic Tutor
        1 Time Spiral
        2 Tendrils of Agony
        1 Mind's Desire
        2 Blinkmoth Infusion
        4 Temporal Cascade
        1 Transmute Artifact

I still haven't got anything to a reasonable turn 1 goldfish yet - the above two are mostly turn 2 or slower decks and mulligan a bit often.

I've been trying to rack my brains and come up with some sort of Krark-Clan Ironworks, Clock of Omens, Pentad Prism and Gilded Lotus synergy, but a lot of those cards are useless on their own.

This is probably a good opportunity for people to try really experimental stuff (like I have) - it'll give others random ideas for cards which might have not been thought about before.

Sooooo, if you have any, post ideas on the decks here or your own deck lists and let's try and make that turn 1 solitaire deck a possibility!

I tried to do what you describe and the problem is that there are so many one-off's you have no idea what you're going to get in your opening hand.  Most of the good accelerants are situational(ie. mishra's workshop) as well as the card drawers(ie. skullcamp).  So basically in order to make the fastest deck possible you have to put in all these mini-combos such as mishra's workshop + gilded lotus but when you get that combo you decrease your likelihood of getting a draw card.  In goldfishing, brain freeze is the cheapest kill and it is very hard to get a mana advantage without a Tolarian Academy in play and untapping it since Lion's Eye Diamon is restricted.

Let me put it this.  You only have so many 0-casting cost accelerants to make it work.  So, you have to put in other situational cards like Mishra's Workshop and Elvish Spirit Guide but now you have to put in support cards like Chromatic Sphere.  So, now you have to count on getting mini-combos in your opening hand.  But, when you run these support cards you'll have to cut down on draw spells so you're less likely to hit a draw spell when you finally do draw cards to be able to keep going off.

If you want a fun turn one kill deck I'd at least allow yourself Contract from Below, Blacker Lotus, Jack in the Mox, and Mox Crystal.

Auriok Salvagers Cool  can get you infinite mana with LED or Black Lotus.  My deck is posted in the Annoying Multiplayer deck thread if you need more ideas.

A month ago or so, I made a deck very similar to yours:

http://www.themanadrain.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=17560&

Neo-Academy

Quote
1 Tolarian Academy
4 Mishra's Workshop
4 Bazaar of Baghdad
4 Helm of Awakening
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Mox Ruby
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Pearl
1 Mox Emerald
1 Sol Ring
1 Grim Monolith
1 Mana Vault
1 Mana Crypt
1 Lion's Eye Diamond
1 Chrome Mox
1 Black Lotus
1 Lotus Petal
4 Chromatic Sphere
4 Krark-Clan Ironworks
4 Elvish Spirit Guide
4 Tinder Wall
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Yawgmoth's Will
1 Memory Jar
1 Tinker
1 Windfall
1 Wheel of Fortune
1 Timetwister
1 Ancestral Recall
4 Meditate
4 Brainstorm
2 Kaervek's Torch

Has an average goldfish turn of 1.3

I suppose it could be made better so it would kill faster, but I really cannot do that I'm afraid. The basic idea of the deck was "put all the t1 brokenness together + a krark clan ironworks to test." And this is what I made. Pretty fun to goldfish I must say.
