As always the level of competition at C&J's was very tough this week as Brent, Christiaan,Tom Sr. and myself where at attendance. (the other players at attendence were also tough opponents)
I piloted dragon this week my build look something like this:

Spells

2 ambassador laquatus
4 worldgorger dragons
4 squee goblin nabob
3 compulsions
4 intuitions
4 animate deads
1 dance of the dead
3 necromancy
4 force of will
3 duress
1 vampiric tutor
1 demonic tutor
1 ancestral recall
1 timewalk

Land/mana

4 bazaar of baghdad
4 underground seas
3 bayous
1 swamp
5 moxen
1 black lotus
1 sol ring
1 mana crypt
4 bloodstained mire

Sideboard:

3 pernicious deeds
3 xantid swarms
3 chalice of the void
3 chain of vapor
3 stifles

1st round Dragon vs White weenie

Game1: I won on turn two playing first ,I played a bazaar (into wolrd gorger)with moxen to accelerate into animate dead for the win. My oppenent played land tax and it was over.

Game2: -1 compulsion -1 Squee -1 timewalk, +3 chain of vapors
My opponent plays first, he plays a plains casts land tax saids go, I play bazaar and pass the turn, he misses a land drop, but plays tormods crypt. Eventually he casts a bunch of white weenies attempting to play empirial armor for the win which I FoW, I drew into chains of vapor and necromancy for the win, close game.
2-0

2nd round Dragon vs Frozen Poop combo

Game1: I go first, I play bloodstain mire passing the turn , my opponent plays a land , skull clamp and ornithopter and passes the turn. I play bazzar, tap it pitching world gorger and laquatus, play a mox and animate for a turn two kill.

Game2: -timewalk , -1 compulsion,-1 squee,-3 duress + 3 chains of vapor, +3 pernicious deed. He plays first drops a bunch of 0 two cast artifact creatures and saids go. I have a iffy hand as I have every combo piece except for an animate spell. He drops a tormods crypt and casts a skull clamp equiping it and swinging with an ornithopter I believe. I eventuall draw into a bazaar but I make a fatal error I unknowingly pitch both my laquatus's to the bazaar leaving them to be crypted. My opponent allows me to Vampiric tutor for force of will, I drop pernicious deed, sacraficing the deed, he crypts in response I casts necromancy and go on to win, I should have lost this match since I errored by leaving my win conditions to be crypted.
2-0

3rd round Dragon vs Madness (Tom Sr.)

Game1: He plays first drops his whole hand and then ripping ancestral off a careful study with a Basking rootwalla in play with deep analysis in the grave yard. I keep a no business hand without bazaar or draw and go on to loss.

Game2: -3 Duress -1 squee- 1 time walk-1 compulsion- 1 intuition -1 worldgorger -1 necromancy +3 xantid swarms+3 pernicious deed,+3stifles
I play first, and mulligan down to 6 again a no business hand, Tom drops a early ground seal and I cannot find a solution fast enough as a wild mongrel and aragant wurn comes for the win.
0-2

4th Round Dragon vs Rogue reanimator deck

Game1: I play first dropping a swamp setting up for a turn two bazaar into anime for the win, my oppenent mulligans down two 4 and plays a swamp. I take my second turn and go off as planned.

Game2: -3 duress -timewalk -1 squee -1 intuition +3 stifles +3chains of vapor. my opponent goes first plays a swamp saids go, I lay bazzar , mox pearl and sol ring and pass the turn. Turn 2 he casts ritual casting entomb for a Reya Dawnbringer and then plays a land drops damping matrix tormods crypt. I eventually animate his Reya and eventually even animating a Arcanis after he buries alive 3 creatures. I go on to kill with his own creatures.
2-0

5th Round Dragon vs Draw 7.dec (Christiaan)

Game1: I play first no business I lay land pass the turn, Christiaan goes insane and resolves jar turn 1 or 2 and cracks it setting up for a turn 3 win when he casts deminishing returns on turn 3 with a ton of mana and drawing the jar off the deminishing returns, I survive at the cost of double force of will pitching double laquatus eliminating any real chance of winning for myself. After all that crazyiness I play bazaar pitching dragon and going infinite as dragon is the only legal target, so we draw game 1

Game2:-3 duress -1 timewalk-1 Squee-1 Necromancy +3stifles +3 chalice of the void. I play first game2, I play a chalice for 0 lay a land and pass the turn. The chalice for 0 was the key factor in game 2 for it gave me enough time to set up the combo and go off. I had the combo in hand but was unsure if Christiaan had the chain of vapor so I wait to get a force of will through intuition before going off and winning.

Game3: Christiaan goes nuts by playing a ton of spells eventually resolving bargin and tendrils for 20 for the win, I believe my only play that was even threatening was a turn 1 chalice for 0 which got chain of vapored, which allowed Christiaan to get insane mana and killing me. Time was called and we ended up drawing our match. (very good game)
1-1-1

So at the end Brent won the tournament on points by going 4-0 and dropping, I win "the prize" as I won on a technicality that I was still in the tournament and that Brent had Dropped. I woulda enjoyed seeing how our match would have went.  I have a feeling it would have been a good match to see.

Nice, detailed report.

But, one thing.  How can you say the competition was tough when you played WW, reanimator, and that skullclamp deck?  The only really competitive decks were the madness and draw7.

We have rather cyclic discussion, and I fully believe that someone so inclined could create a rather accurate computer program which could do a fine job impersonating any of us.

Btw, in game one of our match (Dragon vs. Draw7), Brian (TheLegendOfMagic) went first and drop land, mox, DT -> Force.  Had I won the die roll, I would have resolved first turn Bargain and won.  Gotta love the die roll when it comes to the Combo vs. Combo matchup.

It was also interesting to note that despite running "fast" combo decks, our matches took forever as we both managed to stall on game 1.  It's sad when the combo mirror ends in draw due to time. Crying or Very sad

In response to Gandalf_the_white_1, well the competition was very competitive the strong players were at attendence but however, in a swiss style tourney we all play different opponents, I played against two of the stronger players aswell as playing against lower tier decks.

BtW Zhalfirin, good game, I completely forgot about the turn one DT for FoW, thanks for reminding me. Wink

Nice report and finish.  Congrats.

How did Time Walk work out for you?  Whenever I've played Dragon it is usually pretty bad because it is horrible if it isn't in your opening hand.  I cut it all together from my build in favor of 1 Lim-Dul's Vault.

Were the 2 Ambassadors as your win conditions a personal preferrence or were they just altogether better than Sliver Queen in testing?  I still like the 1/1 configuration because if some random deck is playing Gaea's Blessing(I mean totally random btw) you can get around that.  It still pitches to FoW and it works as a beater if you are desperate.
