My opponent has a Triskelion with no counters on it.  I.e., 1/1.

I cast a duplicant on it removing ti from the game.  Does my duplicant come in with 3 +1/+1 counters or is it just a 1/1 creature?

Why would it get any counters?

It's a 1/1.

The Duplicant is already in play before the Trike is imprinted. And note that a Duplicant will not gain any abilities from the imprinted creature. It only gains the printed P/T and creature type(s).

I was thinking because it is coming into play and Triskelion says it comes into play with three counters.  For example if I clone a creature, the come into play effects of that creature still triggers right?

You are correct on Clone, because Clone actually copies the creature. Duplicant just takes on power, toughness, and creature type. Nothing else.

Also, comes-into-play abilities only trigger after the permanent is in play. So regardless, it won't be able to get the counters because the Duplicant is already in play.

This functions much the way Mystic Snake does, and how its own ability can't counter the Snake.

K thanks guys.  Maybe it was Vesuvan Doppleganger or Volrath's Shapeshifter that got me confused about all this.  I guess duplicating a Triskelion will be pretty dumb since the opponent can always shoot off all their counters or something.

Also note that if you cast Duplicant, then target the Triskelion with Duplicant's CIP trigger, the opponent can shoot the Duplicant once (not killing it yet), and then use the remaining counters to shoot somewhere else.  When the Duplicant's CIP trigger resolves, the Duplicant will become a 1/1 creature and will die as a state-based effect (by having one damage on it).

Lastly, I think this bears repeating (though others have already stated this in the thread): the Duplicant's power/toughness is the imprinted CARD's power/toughness.  So even if Null Rod is on the table and you cast Duplicant, hitting a Triskelion with 3 +1/+1 counters that can't be used for shooting, the Duplicant will still be a 1/1.
