That's right! Here's the long-awaited update to the fat creatures deck I posted back on the old TMD casual forum in November of last year. Unfortunately, it was lost during the move, but luckily I had retained a copy of the list somewhere.

For reference, here's the old list:

Quote

//NAME: Wall of Fat
// Mana
        1 Tolarian Academy
        2 Ancient Tomb
        1 Mana Crypt
        1 Mana Vault
        1 Mox Sapphire
        1 Mox Ruby
        1 Mox Pearl
        1 Mox Jet
        1 Mox Emerald
        1 Sol Ring
        1 Black Lotus
        1 Gilded Lotus
        4 Mishra's Workshop
        2 Polluted Delta
        4 Volcanic Island
// Fat
        1 Karn, Silver Golem
        1 Bosh, Iron Golem
        1 Platinum Angel
        1 Pentavus
        1 Clockwork Dragon
        3 Triskelion
// Card Drawing
        1 Tower of Fortunes
        4 Thirst for Knowledge
        1 Wheel of Fortune
        1 Ancestral Recall
        1 Time Walk
        1 Timetwister
        1 Tinker
        1 Memory Jar
// Tricks
        1 Voltaic Key
        2 Candelabra of Tawnos
        3 Lightning Greaves
        4 Sculpting Steel
        4 Metalworker
        4 Goblin Welder
// No sideboard

Since the release of Darksteel, the deck was given the one thing it really needed - good non-legend artifact fat. We're talking about the goodness of 7/10 and 11/11 fat that can be copied with sculpting steel. Updating the deck was simple enough - replace the not-so-good creatures with these new ones.

And onto the list:

Quote

//NAME: Wall of Fat
// Mana
        1 Tolarian Academy
        2 Ancient Tomb
        1 Mana Crypt
        1 Mana Vault
        1 Mox Sapphire
        1 Mox Ruby
        1 Mox Pearl
        1 Mox Jet
        1 Mox Emerald
        1 Sol Ring
        1 Black Lotus
        2 Gilded Lotus
        4 Mishra's Workshop
        2 Polluted Delta
        4 Volcanic Island
// Fat
   1 Darksteel Colossus
        2 Pentavus
   3 Sundering Titan
        2 Triskelion
// Card Drawing
        4 Thirst for Knowledge
        1 Wheel of Fortune
        1 Ancestral Recall
        1 Time Walk
        1 Timetwister
        1 Tinker
        1 Memory Jar
// Tricks
        1 Voltaic Key
        2 Candelabra of Tawnos
        3 Lightning Greaves
        4 Sculpting Steel
        4 Metalworker
        4 Goblin Welder
// No sideboard

Although this can be a pretty fast aggro deck, I classify it as casual, since it's not going to win any games against combo. And for that matter, probably not that many against control.

It is, however, good against many current type 2 and block decks.

When deciding whether to bring this to a tournament, consider the following: this might be a cool deck to play if you're sick of the same old same old, if you're planning on going to a tournament to play something wacky or if you're planning on facing a field entirely composed of crap.dec. Or if you feel like simply humiliating some opponents with a strictly fun deck.

Still, it's casual.

As for the sideboard, if you do take it to a tournament, you should certainly choose a selection of 15 fun cards you might not ordinarily play. As an example:

4 Jester's Cap
4 Icy Manipulator
2 Mana Flare
1 Sword of Kaldra
1 Shield of Kaldra
1 Helm of Kaldra
1 Mirari
1 Bottle, Glenfiddich Single Malt (with a basic plains somehow attached)

I hope you all enjoy trying this out and brownie points for anyone who does have the balls to take this to a tournament. Double for those who use my proposed sideboard (the whisky helps better in later rounds).

I shall think about possible Fifth Dawn cards for it and perhaps post an update in the future. Should anyone have any good or bad luck with it, do post here. Oh yeah, same goes for any suggestions you might have about possible alterations.

I thought Fat.dec was called 7/10 split.

@ Morefling: I can see your comparisons with 7/10 split or even "Broodstar Runner" or whatever that deck was called. But remember, this deck was doing that stuff much earlier.

And it's much more techy. Take, for instance, Sculpting Steel. It's deep on so many levels. Let me show some examples:

Sculpting Steel in hand + activate Metalworker = 2 mana
Sculpting Steel copying Darksteel Colossus = edict-proof colossus
Sculpting Steel copying Mox Emerald = Serum Powder

Also, let's remember that while other decks drop turn 1 Trinisphere and then get fucked by a single wasteland on their Workshop, this deck doesn't even run them. Let's not even touch on the proposed sideboard. How much more pure genius can you get, eh?

Note also that 7/10 does not run such truly powerhouse cards like Candelabra of Tawnos or Voltaic Key. The original version even had the powerhouse Tower of Fortunes, but I cut if because it was just too unfair to keep the deck's casual status.

Joking aside, (or maybe not, depending on your viewpoint) it's true that 7/10 and those other decks are only a few cards different from this. One reason I posted this new thread was because the thread I started the original deck on (just after Mirrodin came out) got almost no views or replies. Then some half a year later, a few cards are changed and the deck is given some random silly name and suddenly it's common vocabulary in metagame discussions. Funny how sad people on here are, if you ask me.

So in other words, you want credit for 7/10 split? I'm sorry, but I read your thread back then, and TFK was basicly what you put into a deck. And we were all watching it. I didn't mention this is so much alike just to tell you you aren't original. Originality is useless, since it doesn't win you anything.

All I meant was, that this isn't really all that casual if you ask me.

Nah, don't get me wrong. I'm not looking for any credit for anything.

I was just talking about the fact that some ideas don't really get much attention cos they don't look good on paper at the time. Then they get passed by until someone who's either loud enough or well known enough takes interest (probably because someone else that they knew came up with a similar enough looking deck).

Anyway, I agree that this deck probably isn't all that casual, but it's certainly not all that competitive either. If I'd posted it in open or n00b, I'd have been flamed for it "not being optimal" (which it purposefully isn't). However, it is a bit of a stretch for casual (although some I've seen some real casual deck posts still get raked, so basically it's a losing proposition here too).

It's sort of a "I'll play something fun but good enough to not auto 0-2 drop" deck. I noticed a lot of people have been talking about taking wacky ideas like Eureka decks to tournaments. This is one of those sort of ideas. Maybe we need a categorization for that. Wink
