The prize breakdown for the "world championships" has been announced.  We're to receive boxes of product for the top eight.

If you're like me, your first response is "What the fuck?  That's total bullshit!"

Be heard!  E-Mail Mark Rosewater at makingmagic@wizards.com and tell him how you feel!

If you're going to GenCon, if you know someone who's going to GenCon, or don't even give a rat's ass about GenCon, tell Wizards why that prize structure is terrible!  Do it for the community.  This is no less than a slap in the face to the type one playing world, and we must do something about it.

EDIT:  Here's a link to MaRo's most recent article.  The link Jacob is referring to is at the bottom.  Do it for the community.

My post in the other thread:

That's not the correct address--you can't reach mtg.com writers through email anymore, since it got so clogged with spam.

You have to actually go to his column, and click on the little "respond to mark rosewater via email" link at the bottom. Tedious, but it means you're 100% guaranteed to have him read it.

Also, consider emailing the gencon coordinators and people who are more than just a figurehead.

It's true that it says simply "Magic: The Gathering boosters". Is there any way in hell it could be something cool like A/B/U/AN/AQ/LG boosters? Or is there a standard definition for boosters as being "boosters from the most current set"?

I mean, that's not too bad at all if it were boosters from the oldest sets in the game and we all know that they must have boxes of those older product still lying around Wink If there was a chance that it could be boosters from older sets, would there be a way of verifying that before causing a stink?

Too late, I already sent my email.  I'm sure if they're really old boosters, they would have told us.  If they're dumb enough to have not done so, well, they'll tell us soon enough.

I found this while reading on the GenCon official site:

"Magic: The Gathering - Type 1 Championship
This Type 1 event will be run Swiss-draw with single elimination Top 8. Great product prizes, including Italian Legends packs, to the top 16 finishers as well as a trophy and other special prizes for the winner."

Note the Italian Legends line.

I don't know how accurate this is, but check it out for yourself.

Well, I feel like a buffoon.  Thanks for clearing that up, boasnapes.  I'm going to let this thread die now and pretend this never happened.  After I write an apology email to MaRo anyway.
