Pawn Shop 3 Artifact Remove a creature you control from the game: Gain X life where X is the converted mana cost of the removed creature Pay X+2 life: Return a creature to play that was removed by Pawn Shop where X is the converted mana cost of the removed creature Current Wording:Free Market

 , Remove an artifact you control from the game: Add X colorless mana to your mana pool where X is the converted mana cost of the removed artifact
 +{2}, : Return an artifact with converted mana cost X that was removed by Free Market to play under owner's controlTrying to figure out an appropriate flavor text right now. I don't really see this being used to gain life too often. It would most likely be used as pay 2 life to save a creature you control. Perhaps it should be X+3 life to return it to play? I don't know. Actually, how about if this was an imprint ability? Would that work?

The flavour feels off to me, if that's any help. With a name like 'Pawn Shop' I feel like it ought to have the same effect, except for artifacts, instead of creatures. A version for creatures could be called 'Safe House.' I think that paying X+2 life to get the stuff back is okay, but I think removing them from the game should come at some cost, as well.  : or : would be appropriate, I think. |

Also, you're missing the words "to play" in the second ability.

Pawn shops give cash right? Paying/gaining life almost seems like some kind of dark alley plastic surgeon to me, if that makes any sense at all.
What if it gave mana instead? Just replace the life loss and gain with colorless mana. It'll probably end up making an infinite mana generator, but we've already got so many 2 card infinite mana combos that it should hardly matter. Alternately just add a tap onto the second ability and you're good to go.
Either way seems fine to me.
@ Ephraim: Safe Haven already exists and is really similar to Safe House. It's also close to the original card idea, which is partly why I suggested a change to mana/artifacts instead of life/creatures.

Shouldn't it be "Add X to your mana pool", instead of "Gain X colorless mana"? Should be the same wording as Mana Drain + errata, right?
It's a shame that the Rishadan Pawnshop already exists. I mean, it's so terrible and this card has some great flavor. I think we should leave it as is, just to show WOtC what a pawnshop really looks like. It's not like Wizards hasn't given multiple cards similar names before. [card]Test of Faith[/card] and [card]Testament of Faith[/card] anyone?

Well, everything's been fixed now. The only remaining issue is whether or not I should change the name because it is too close to Rishadan Pawnshop. And I'll wait for some responses before initiating the clock.
