Artifact
T, sacrifice Ransom: Gain control of all permanents you own.
Every ransom purchases something that does not belong to the seller.
It's basically brand. It's better in that it's easier to play mana-cost wise, can be played on turn one and used later on in the game and it's an artifact. It's worse in that it's potentially more useless since it doesn't have cycling. It's also more flavorful and I don't think it's a problem for all colors to have access to this effect. I would be OK with upping the mana cost to 2 if you guys think it's necessary.
Other possible flavor text:
Being held for money never worries the poor man.

Artifact -- Treasure

That kind of effect is horrible in the common slot. Nothing common should be so clearly a last pick.

Or does the player with Control Magic just have an ineffective Control Magic?

-outta The newer control chaning effect will override the older one. So, the Control Magic won't do anything. |

Jacob: there will always be a last pick... The closest you can get to useless for commons is spark elemental or cabal ritual. This is krark's thumb-level useless, which means it would have to be rare. Also, this ability doesn't belong on commons. I have no objection to the card, though. I'm just saying that this won't be a common. |

I actually forgot that 'ransom' could be a noun. It's almost never used that way (usually a verb), which is why I asked about its artifact status.
