I just need actual confirmation here: Sacred Ground puts a land back into play if an opponent's effect puts one of my lands from play into the graveyard.

Does this hold back a Smokestack set at 1? (assuming the opponent was unwilling to ramp it up to 2 Soot counters).

That is, can I sacrifice a land, and then put it back into play immediately as per Sacred Ground, happily?

For that matter, if the Smokestack had 2 soot counters, can I sac the same land twice (sac land, return it, sac it, return it?), or would I have to sac it, and another land, returning it and another land, returning it too? Or do I sac two lands, at the same time, and THEN I put them both back into play?

Yes, it works as you like agianst SMokestack. But if the stack has two soot counters, you have to sacrifice two lands at the same time, so you can't sacrifice the same land twice.

Happy bitchin cool! I rule for playing with white non-Balance/Swords to Plowshares Cards!

Feel free to close this thread, as I have found the answer that I wanted/thought was right.

But as a bonus, is there anything more ass kicking than Sacred Ground against Workshop/Wasteland Happy decks than Sacred Ground? (other than Mana Birds or actual Moxen?).

One thing I feel that it is important to note, Sacred Ground will not return animated man lands that are dealt lethal damage or had their toughness reduced to zero.

Technically a game rule put them into the graveyard and not the effect that caused this rule to take effect.

Sacred Ground was bounced around as an anti-Workshop card back when Smokestack first hit the scene, it makes for a solid choice if you expect a lot of it.  I have a soft spot in my heart for that card, I used to run it just out of loathing of LD, and I'm considering testing it again as anti-Crucible tech.
