15 Trinispheres in the Top 8 is not indicative of domination to me.
Small detail... but there were actually 16.
In case anyone didn't know, I have assimilated Steve O'Connell into my internet-spanning web of minions. Resistance is futile.
I just read this whole damn thread, and I've come to the conclusion that threads longer than five pages are terrible, but having my name on both sides of an argument is great! For the record, I am opposed to restricting Workshop right now. As long as Dark Ritual walks this earth, we shall not be safe without Workshops. I'd like to reiterate for anyone who blanks my articles out of their memory that whenever Workshops appear at a dangerous-looking rate, a lot of it is in aggro decks which no one finds especially threatening. The exception to this is recent Italian success with MUD, which may or may not be the best Workshop deck outside of the specific, TPS- and Tog-saturated meta they have. I think it adds more inconsistency than the blue-using versions, but I haven't exactly tested it out.
Ideally, I would nuke the format from orbit, but as long as we're not doing that, mana accelerants can fall one by one. Mana Drain and Ritual are both significantly better than Workshop, and I say this as a person who owns Drains but not 'shops. I think our restriction energies should aim at the less narrow accelerants, and at finally breaking the "no banning" taboo. Tinker as a one-of concerns me more than Workshop as a four-of does.
Restricting Trinisphere is a poor approach, to me, like back when we had the huge arguments about Long and people were interested in restricting Tendrils. I'd say this is a poor option, though it should still be under consideration. Crucible is different, since it breaks such a fundamental idea of the game. It hasn't persuaded me with dominance or ridiculousness yet, so unless I get my way (getting to drop THE BOMB on Type One), I'll leave it alone till it offends me somewhat more. To be honest, I'd rather hit Wasteland than CoW. It's barely worse than Strip Mine, and I don't much care for free land removal. But that's unlikely to happen unless connected with a The Bomb scenario, so I'll stop pipe-dreaming.
Oh look, they should announce things soon.
