Every time I read a "how pimp is your deck?" thread, I'm always amazed how much money some of these decks, not to mention some collections, are worth.  I own a full set of power, set of Workshops, set of duals, and assorted nice cards (Drains, FBB duals, blah blah).  I figure my 4CC deck is worth somewhere around $3000 alone.

But as a result, every time I go to a tournament, I take every precaution possible to keep my cards safe, almost to the point of distraction.  I've read too many threads about people getting ripped off to the tune of $2,000+.

Then it struck me, why aren't my cards insured?  Hell, my wedding ring is insured under my renter's policy and that's worth a helluva lot less.  Figure my wife's engagement ring is roughly the same value as my 4CC deck and we got that insured the week I proposed.  Has anyone investigated getting their cards insured under an existing homeowners or renters policy?  Has anyone taken an additional rider to cover their collection?  It might be that your cards are covered under an existing policy--I once had a pair of skis stolen from my boarding school and it ended up being covered by my parent's homeowners policy.

Yeah, my friend's house burnt down and he wrote off all sorts of shit - magic cards, miniatures for rpgs, etc. They basically said 'mmmkay, here's some money'.

A while ago I took pictures of all my stuff with a digital camera so I would have records of what I might lose if we were to have a flood or a fire...I would really suggest everyone do something like that.

According to KandyKid, house insurance covers things like Magic Cards, as long as the cards are inside the house at the time of the disaster (fire, flood etc.).

I'm guessing the same thing goes for your car, so if you keep cards in your trunk and then your car blows up, I think you're covered (not 100% sure on this).

I don't think there's much you can do if you're cards get stolen at a cardstore or some other location though.

That's the rub--I'm sure this is how most cards get lost.  Does anyone know if it's possible to get a rider specifically for the cards?  I'm sure sport card dealers and so forth have some sort of provosion that protects them when they go to conventions.  Furthermore, you limit for collectables through your homeowners/renters insurance might be less than the value of your collection.

Doing some searching, it looks like there are collection-specific companies out there.  I wonder if they're worth it...

Oh yea, I forgot to mention. It's probably a good idea to have some proof of the cards you own.

Triple S has a good idea about taking pictures, but I think even things like online records of e-bay or MOTL transactions will do the trick as well.

A freind of mine said that one of his friend's stax deck was stolen, but was insured so he just bought a new one.  Thus, I am sure that some companies offer policies that would be applicable to decks.  (and yes proof of ownership is important for house insurance stuff, although exactly what probably depends on your policy)

It should be more like:
T1 is Microsoft stock (or one most likely not to go down)
T2 is buying multiple NEW KIA vehicles.  (Your going to lose money for nothing)

On a serious note.  I'd be interested in information on how to cover my collection well even when I take parts of it to events.   If anyone knows how to go about this please post it here.

Knowing that I can build almost any deck in T1 and have it be black bordered. = Priceless
