http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgcom/daily/af39Aaron Forsythe's article on Type 1 is pretty interesting, and his decklist is certainly original. The really cool thing though is the poll at the end. The options are: Ageless Comprehensive Enduring Heritage Legacy Mosaic Renaissance Throwback Timeless Traditional I'm a fan of traditional. What about you guys?

I linked this in the Open forum; I like Legacy a lot. Traditional is the only other one I don't dislike.

Ageless is clearly lame, since Vintage is ageless. Comprehensive is similarly lame. They don't even have moxes! How can that be considered comprehensive? Enduring works, but it sounds pretty awful. Heritage is kind of cool. Legacy seems mediocre. Mosaic is godawful. Renaissance seems acceptable, but like Enduring it's kind of weak. Throwback is bad. Timeless is, once again, Vintage. Traditional would make the most sense, since most casual players have no problems with stuff like moxen being banned, and have no problems with running multiples of cards like Regrowth. And obviously traditional would be referencing casual players, even if the format itself grows up to be a real format.
I voted for Traditional.

I think Legacy is the least bad, but I dislike ALL of the names. It's a pity they used up most of the good names with random online formats.

Heh. I (and probably 5,000,000 others...) sent in Comprehensive. I suspected Wizards may find it confusing because of the rulebook, but apparently they didn't. Comprehensive would be my choice because: a. it sounds professional, b. it sounds good paired with Vintage (Vintage + Comprehensive = Eternal). c. it means: "So large in scope or content as to include much**", which is exactly what the format does (it doesn't include all). My opinion on the other options: Ageless - Mwaa. Doesn't sound like a format to me. Comprehensive - SUPERB! Enduring - It sounds off to have an '-ing' word as a format name. Also: who's to say it will in fact endure? Heritage - Vintage / Heritage. Sounds off to me. And: whose heritage?? Legacy - Sounds OK, but it's a set name. Big no-no. Mosaic - This makes it sound eclectical, which it really isn't. Renaissance - OK-ish. This would be my second choice (the fact that it's a foreign set isn't that big of a deal to me). Throwback - "A reversion to a former type or ancestral characteristic." It's only become 'less old' with the new rules. Noone throwing anythign back. Also: what are we? Neanderthals? Timeless - Bleh. This sounds like a tell sell ad for a CD collection. Traditional - Cliche to the max. Also: it's weird to call the newest format in the game 'traditional' They don't even have moxes! How can that be considered comprehensive? Because comprehensive means including MUCH, not ALL ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- **= as opposed to "Marked by or showing extensive understanding" which is the way it's intended for the Comprehensive Rulebook.

Why, for the love of God, can't they leave it at Type 1.5? And leave Type 1 as Type 1... none of those names are exceptionally good anyhow, but Heritage is the better one.

It's like Bush vs. Kerry. Stop whining and start voting Let's hope Diebold didn't write the WoTC poll script. If Karl Rove likes "Mosaic", then Mosaic it is. Personally, I think all of the names kinda suck. But I went with Heritage. It offends my ear the least. "Throwback": wtf? edit - links for those not in the know...

To decide which name I found most fitting, I laid out the formats like so:
Vintage, ______, Extended, Standard, Block
and I tried them all to gauge which one I felt best in that slot.
My vote was for Traditional.
EDIT: Can anyone here see themselves saying, "I'm playing Legacy."?
EDIT: Also, Karl Rove is a terrible person. His sleeze tactics against respected people like John McCain and Max Cleland mire his otherwise incredible political strategies. If I saw him on the street I would punch him in the face.

Heritage. Has some of the power of it's big brother, but only the heritage, no the full neck-cracking of Vintage.

I think I'm going to just keep calling the format "Type One Five." Sort of like how I'm not into calling Type One by any other name.

I voted for a write-in; Hermaphrodite - Almost Standard, Almost Vintage, not good enough for either.
Actually I voted Traditional, I mean hell, they all suck. How did "Classic" not earn a spot? It's older then your Standard offering but not quite Vintage.

I voted for Legacy, although now that I've been reminded that it's the name of a set, it seems a little bit more iffy. My next choice probably would've been Renaissance, although it's a little long. I agree that Comprehensive sounds more professional, but I wanted a name more evocative of the game's rich history. As for your question, Aeneas, I can definitely see myself saying, "I play Legacy." Even more so, since I'd tack on "Magic" to it, like I do with Vintage.
I play Vintage Magic. I play Legacy Magic. I play Extended format. I play Standard format. I play Peasant Magic.
I think the added formality of the word "Magic" or "format" makes the statement sound better overall.

Instead of analyzing how appropriate the name is for the format, I think it's best to go with how it would sound in normal conversation. Everyone ought to try saying the "better" names with the words deck or tournament tacked on the end before submitting. Legacy seems to sound the least awkward.

I think Vintage for T1 and Casual Vintage for T1.5 would be acceptable. Unfortunately, that is not one of the options. I assume we will all be calling it 1.5 for the next few years anyway.
Any time I played a 1.5 deck in the past was to have a nice casual deck that no one will whine about, but I still get to play my old cards. T1.5 seems to be entirely a casual/budget format.

I wish that were the case for me. My favourite casual deck can't beat any serious 1.5 decks, past or present, but because it contains Skullclamp and some Tutors (cards I absolutely do not want to lose), it's Vintage legal only. Oh well, that's not really a big deal, I suppose. It's not like some of the people around here don't play with Balance, Metalworker, Frantic Search, or Gush.

I voted for heritage, seems like a nice balance between something that is old, but not as old as Vintage.
And I like the word heritage, as it feels similar to the word vintage

I voted for renaissance which was also the name for foreign chronicles I think. Since they banned all the good cards, they have to start anew...I am interested to see what happens.
If we get to write in I would go with: Unleaded, De-Caffeinated, T1 Lite (all you diet coke drinkers that come to europe will get this obscure joke), "The other T1" or "we play with bad cards, because the good ones are banned".
Vasectomy would have been OK too (prop to Fantazy! BTW: Good Greatful Dead Reference!)

I voted for renaissance because it sounds cool and the fact that 1.5 is bringing back old cards and new cards are coming in. It just works.
