This selection came up a couple of weeks ago at our weekly Type 4 game.

What do you take first?  There seems to be one obvious selection, but the person in the first seat didn't take it.  What do you take?

I took the obvious selection of Aladdin's Lamp since it is a must deal with.

I really can't think of many reasons to abstain from picking the Lamp in this situation.  It's just soo good.

lamp wants to be soothsaying or flash of insight so bad it hurts...
The bigger the game, the crappier lamp is.
In a sufficiently large game I take the Grab or Wind over the Lamp.

It really depends on the card pool.  If you can set up a combo (like kaboom/gleemax) then pick the lamp.  If your cardpool is full of uberpowerful spells (staff of domination, volcanic geyser, johnny...) then having a counterspell to save your butt is a good choice.

I just like Grab the Reins. I agree with Sliverking that picking the lamp or not more depends on the size of the game (and possibly the cardpool, I guess).

I think Grab has a more powerful impact on the game IMO.  If people know you have it you're more likely to be left alone than if you had the ability to Demonic Tutor every turn.  I've personally upped the artifact removal in my deck a little so artifacts aren't as powerful as they would otherwise be.  They're still nuts, but more easily kept in check.  There are lots of ways to deal with Lamp, but all you can do about Grab or Searing Wind is to counter/misdirect it(In the case of Searing Wind).
