The 3CB War of the websites is BACK!

Goblinboy (the organiser for 3CB at MTGNews.com) and I have organised the return of the almost-classic War of the Worlds. The idea is that we have 15 decks from each website and pair them up against each other, so that each TMD deck will play every MTGNews deck – effectively, a team match. The totals will then be compared and we’ll sort out the winning site+players. I’ll post all 30 decks so that people can have a look. Other prizes can be revealed a little later…

This time, there are almost no banned cards. However, there are a couple of things that need straightening out first: Firstly, all double-discard decks are banned. This means no [card]Balance[/card], [card]Chain of Smog[/card], [card]Forget[/card], [card]Hymn to Tourach[/card], [card]Mind Swords[/card] and so forth. This also covers decks like Lotus-Duress-Mesmeric fiend. Secondly, each team is restricted to 1 of each non-mana-source. This is to prevent all 15 people playing some sort of meddling mage deck or something similar. Let’s see if we can make 15 different deck types with this, rather than just replacing one card with a functionally identical one… Other than that, pretty much anything goes!

The rules as far as entering a deck for the competition is that it is almost strictly done on a first-come, first serve basis. However, those of us who have won a 3CB on TMD since the re-introduction of the banned list (Kowal, Jacob Orlove, Pyromaniac, PandaPokemon, Alfred, Nibble, Erdrick, Virtual, Nazdakka, Zelc, combo_dude and my good self - excluding Goblinboy for reasons to be explained) will have priority; if we submit a deck after 15 have been entered, then the last deck to come in will be moved down onto a waiting list. I do, however, reserve the right to get rid of anything that is truly dreadful – this is not a right I intend to exercise, however! A further rule that needs imposing is that you cannot submit a deck to both teams – only use your ‘home’ site. The first-come-first-serve rule is more important here, as even previous winners don’t get priority to use the cards that they want to use – if they’re already used, they’re already used! It may get a bit more complicated if people who’ve not won before then get kicked off the list, but I’ll sort that out if and when it happens.

A level playing field here, guys. Unfortunately we've lost the results of the last no-banned-list tournament we had here, but I'm sure if you use your imagination  Cool we'll cope. As ever, I'm willing to refine but not suggest decks, so if you need a hand with anything I'm here to help. Let's see what happens! Best of luck to all...

Well, here we go:

Banned list:
Portal
Unglued
Unhinged
Any deck capable of forcing your opponent to discard more than 1 card in a turn.
Any deck that is incapable of winning under its own steam (i.e. NO MISE-DECKS!)
Any deck that uses a non-mana-source card used in another deck on the same team.

What is 3cb?

3-Card Blind (3CB) is a very unique game. The rules are as follows

Your deck is composed of 3 cards, all of which start in your hand.
You have no library (technically, the library exists, but starts at 0 cards) and no sideboard (Wishes fetch nothing).
Random effects always go in your opponent's favour.
You can see your opponent's hand, so you can always make the best possible play.
You don't lose as a result of not being able to draw a card.
You will play each opponent twice, once going first, once going second.
For each win, you score 3.
For each draw, you score 1.
For each lose, you get nothing.
Other than the aforementioned, EVERYTHING IS HANDLED EXACTLY LIKE A REAL GAME OF MAGIC!

To make an entry, PM your deck to wonkey_donkey in the following format:

Subject: 3cb WotW 3 Entry
Deck Name
Card #1
Card #2
Card #3

I’m going to open entries as of now, and they will close at this time exactly in 9 days time (Friday 21st). This will give Goblinboy and I 3 days to calculate and make sure the results are correct to the best of our ability before they are posted.

Entrants so far:
1. wonkey_donkey
2. combo_dude
3. Alfred
4. Apprentice
5. Zergwrong
6. plecorich
7. Virtual
8. xrizzo

A bit more interest is needed, I think - we're missing a fair few regulars from the lists thus far and could do with a few more decks!

Insufficient entries means that there is an extension until Monday. If we don't have a team, then MTGnews will cut players (I think they've got 13) until they have the same as us. I don't want that to happen if possible, though - it doesn't seem fair. More entries would be good, if possible!
