I've always been a fan of Pox and I'm sure its probably terrible in the current meta, but I'd still like to try to find an optimal build. The white splash for Balance/Vindicate/etc. is nice, but I find Mono-Black to be sleeker and somewhat more agressive...

I try to read as much as I can to keep up on what the current meta is, but even with that I don't know how to properly forumlate the sideboard for this deck. Any suggestions?

//Mana
15 Swamp
4 Wasteland
1 Strip Mine
1 Mox Jet
1 Black Lotus
1 Chrome Mox

//Disruption
4 Dark Ritual
4 Duress
4 Hymn to Tourach
4 Sinkhole
4 Pox

//Damage and Board Control

4 Cursed Scroll
4 Innocent Blood
3 The Rack
1 Entomb
1 Nether Spirit

//Utility

1 Demonic Consultation
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Necropotence
1 Yawgmoth's Will

I'm guessing a Zuran Orb in the board couldn't hurt, and I need to have something to bring in from auto-losing to Workshop, Trinisphere, go. Any suggestions on a solid board for a competitive/artifact heavy meta or any changes you would make to the main deck? Thanks.

I suggest you not to play sinkhole and replace them with cruccible... First turn Ritual + Cruccible and 2nd turn waste could be pretty strong against alot of decks!

Mishra's factory could be really good too, they aren't creature for Pox and can be bring back with Cruccible. Maybe more Nether Spirit can be good too!

Just some random suggestion for you! Good luck with your Pox deck!

You have got a good standard build from the start.

A few options to condsider:

Undead gladiator: A psuedo nether spirit and card advantage generator. Really great but not often used in pox builds.

Mishra factory: eh not my favorite since your already have a heavy need to black. A crucible based version would use it but I prefer the idol.

Spinning darkness: Prefferred creature removal. Very useful

Zuran orb: Should not be in a pox deck unless crucible based. Even then it is useless without the crucible since when are you going to have mana to spare when your poxing?

animate dead/triskelion- can quickly end a game after a pox or reanimate a fatty.

For sideboard:
Dystopia
Cursed totem
null rod
chains of meph
infest

While pox may be a fun deck in Vintage, I feel it has a better chance in Legacy overall.

Undead Gladiator is interesting but mana hungry. Cool idea though.

Its either Factory or Wasteland, and Wasteland is the far superior choice in my opinion. Also, I never understood why people ran Factory and Idol, seems like terrible synergy.

I think Spinning Darkness is outdated and really shouldn't be used if you're running Nether Spirit. Innocent Blood is sorcery speed, but it has numerous advantages. You can answer a first turn Welder for instance, and the lone creature in your deck doesn't mind be sacrificed for one turn if necessary.

Zuran Orb was a suggestion for the board against aggro for the life gain. The point isn't to just randomly throw away lands to gain life, its to sac lands that would be be sacced uselessly to a Pox anyways. (i.e.- you have 4 lands and are going to cast a Pox)

Animate Dead/Triskeklion don't seem to fit....

The whole Crucible Thing is pox is very interesting, but has a more "controllish" feel to it since resolving something that expensive doesn't even pose that huge of a threat without a Strip Mine in the discard. It seems like it has a much nicer use in a more controllish feeling B/W version instead of this somewhat destructive mono black.

Still trying to feel out a sideboard that has nice answers for popular decks such  Workshop based stuff, Oath, etc....

I know it's a tidge mana-intensive, but perhaps Engineered Plague can help out your matchups? You could possibly drop it turn 1, and it's not horrible turn 2-3 either.

I'm pretty sure playing what amounts to a 5 mana cantripping Gray Ogre is fucking terrible.

I think you should add in fetchlands, 4-6, for deck thinning.  As you have no card draw(other then Necropotence, which is dangerous w/Pox) you need a way to get more from your deck.

I like the suggestion for Chains of Mephistopheles.  I run two in my maindeck, as so many decks have massive card advantage engines, its fun to shut them down once in a while.

I'm a fan of using Crucible of Worlds in Pox decks.  Recurring Wastes and sac'd lands is good times, as well as playing Entomb for Strip Mine to start the land lock.  Also, with five reuseable Strip effects, you can ditch the less the optimal Sinkholes.

The mention of E.Plague is solid.  Not only will it rid you of pesky welders, but it also takes care of those little tokens that Oath decks try to give you.  Definately worth a look in the sideboard.

Hope I was of some help. Good luck!
