While it's probably not broken enough for type 1  play where quickbeats is dead I thought I'd toss out a concept to see if some of you brains can work with it.

I was looking at:

Blurred Mongoose (2/1 uncounterable, cant be the target of spells or abilities)

An easy uncounterable 1st turn play.  Is there any ninjitsu cards competitive enough to slide in under radar for 2nd turn brokenness?

Maybe some Nether Void lock tricks?

Ninja of the Deep Hours draws you a card, and has Ninjutsu 1U, which is not expensive IMO.

Ninja of the Deep Hours  3U
Creature - Human Ninja
Ninjutsu 1U
Whenever Ninja of the Deep Hours deals combat damage to a player, you may draw a card.
2/2

I don't think Blurred Mongoose is good enough. Yes, it is uncounterable, and yes, it is untargetable, but it attacks on turn three, which is very, very late. Maybe you should look for a cheap haste critter for your Ninja's?

Because if I do understand the sentence, then maybe you should read the card again

Would be funny if you add ornithopters in...They come down turn 1, attack turn 2, have evasion and are nearly uncounterable...(Who ever counters a thopter? -don't look at me-) Besides what people actually PAY for there creatures...that's so old fashioned... Cool

Ornis are an interesting idea.  I wonder if the blue card draw ninjas could work in Affinity....

This could be a fun idea sure it probly wont stand up in type one, but with uncounterable 1 drops the ninjas could cause some trouble. With Higure the still wind you could create a ninja deck that tutors for abilities, such as:put a creature from opp. grave yard in play, destroy nonblack guy, remove 2 cards from grave yard, bounce a creature back to hand, draw a card. All of these abilities have there place in type 1, so i wonder what a deck list would look like. Also Higure can make any ninja unblockable, how sweet!! The only question is how fast?

Higure kinda sucks effectively costing 4 mana and all and most of the cards that cost 4 or more in t1 guarantee a win.  The new orphidian is a fun card in fish though to sneak under standstill.

The ninjitsu mechanic is cool as hell.  Imagine old school Fish: U/R or Mono Blue Fish.

Change the creature base around a bit, utilize more evasive one-drops, like Flying Men.

Turn One: Faerie Conclave / Mishra's Factory / Flying Men.
Turn Two: Standstill, Attack.
Turn Three: Attack, Ninjitsu in Ninja of the Deep Hours.

Very basic concept, but essentially, I just handed you the concept for a new aggro-control Fish deck.  Call it "Sushi."

I will break into your house while you aren't home and disguise myself as a chair. Then I will leave before you get home, but there will be a place at your table where I was a chair and you will wonder why there isn't a chair there. Then later I will leave the chair disguise on your doorstep and you will realize what has happened and you will be afraid all the time. Helter Skelter mother fuckers!

When looking at the nijitsu cards look at it this way if they are not good enough to be played by themselves for thier casting cost are they worth running?  You should not have to run bad cards (ornithopter) to make certain other cards good unless they win the game.  An example of this is goblin welder sure it is bad by itself but the ability when combined with good artifacts it wins games.  Then look at ornithopter and any of the ninjas, they are bad on their own and from what i have seen do not win the game.  If they print some more powerful ninjas it could happen but so far they arn't good enough.  So basically rember this don't play cards that make other cards good (unless they win the game) play more good cards.

Oh damn, that was really bad...

But I agree with That0neguy, the 'thopter  and the ninja wont win you games, they  could do nice things under a standstill, but a smart player will just break the standstill and try to kill the fish player.

I think the most surreal thing is when a complete stranger you meet at a tournament hears your name and goes "Oh, yeah. I've read your stuff." It's kind of weird, yet feels good all at the same time.

Yeah the thopter idea kinda sucks, I was just trowing around some idea's into this forum...(it did spur some responses w00t)
It's probably nothing more than a cute idea...still it's interesting enough to make a deck around no matter how much it sucks... Cool

We are in the newbie forum mind you.  Probably the reason this thread hasn't been closed yet.  Though i really think if this is transfered over into the casual forum we could discuss  bird ninja's or ninja's with "urza's wings."

The fish concept wasn't a bad idea, but the name was horrid.  It's undoubtedly good in fish however i'm not sure it would be solid enough to allow any fish build to make a comeback.

Couldn't even make "The worst fish" deck and expect it to be successful.

I really think this thread could have serious potential in the casual forum however.

Ninja!

Yeah, we've all been waiting for Ninja in Magic.

My stupid ass Ninja deck involves Volrath's Shapeshifter, Phage, Digeridoo, Artificial Evolution, Scrabbling Claws, Artifact Lands, Trinket Mages, Ivory Towers (to buy time, plus they combo with Trinket Mages), and every ass kicking Angel Magic has in print (except Serra Angel, because my 4 Serra's are in my crappy (cough) Type 2 Mesmeric Orb deck).

With the release of Betrayers of Kamigawa (which looks fun from a scrub/casual point of view), I got a few Ninja of Deep Hours.

I put them into Ninja.

In my deck (yeah, it's rogue/scrub, but it IS about Ninja of Deep Hours and it's possible uses), I resolve a Trinket Mage, fetch a crappy artifact, attack with it next turn, NINJUTSU!!! popping in Ninja of Deep Hours, Draw a Card (way cool) and then next turn recast Trinket Mage and fetch another Artifact (again, way cool.). Plus, they are Ninjas.

Now, my Trinket Mage Combo may not be the BEST combo every, but with Volrath Shapeshifters, Phyrexian Dreadnaughts cost 1 Mana and are fetchable with Trinket Mages (as is Digeridoo, for those that can follow this logic. Ahem Artificial Evolution, Shapeshifters/Kick Ass Angels/Phage)

Anyways, the Ninja of Deep Hours DO net you a card for 1U and Chump for at least one time, but the are the SUK after they hit the field unless your opponent's deck REALY sucks. I feel that their only use is to get goodies for recasting their unblocked predecessors only, and Trinket Mage, Eternal Witness, MAYBE Cloud of Faeries, or Spirit Token creatures make Ninja possibly worthwhile.

Ninja's are cool, but they are not Welders, or even Llanowar Elves.

Keep trying though! I Combo them with crappy Trinket Mages!
