Okay, I’ve reached a point in my collection where I can build almost any type 1 deck without the P9, Mana Drain, Bazaar, or MWS. I want to play SCG in Chicago come April, and cannot put together a 5-proxy deck that I feel can win. So I am building a meta-game hate deck. I am getting 500 bucks back from taxes and plan to invest it in this deck. Currently I have everything but the extractions, mires, and some of the sideboard cards.

The deck is:

Spells: 34
4x Ankh of Mishra
4x Juggernaut
4x Duress
2x Red Elemental Blast
2x Pyroblast
1x Demonic Tutor
1x Vampiric Tutor
3x Crucible of Worlds
2x Shrapnel Blast
4x Lightning Bolt
2x Rack and Ruin
2x Cranial Extraction
2x Price of Progress
1x Burning Wish

Mana Sources: 26
4x Dark Ritual
1x Strip Mine
4x Wasteland
1x Mox Ruby (proxy)
1x Mox Jet (proxy)
1x Black Lotus (proxy)
2x Mishra’s Workshop (proxy)
5x Mountain
5x Swamp
2x Bloodstained Mire

Sideboard: Just cards I am considering – no match-up analysis made yet

Pyrostatic Pillar
Meltdown
Scorched Earth
Cranial Extraction
Chalice of the Void
Boil
Planar Void
Rolling Thunder
Lava Dart
Defense Grid
Grave Consequences

----

Card choices:

Ankh of Mishra - Mana Denial (kind of) / Damage

Juggernaut - beats

Duress - Hand Disruption

ReB - Everyone's playing Blue, so it seems like a good choice

Pyroblast - See ReB - different card to diversify

Tutors - Search

Crucible - 4x Wastelands and Strip Mine included

Shrapnel Blast - Direct Damage

Lightning Bolt - Direct Damage or to kill Welders

Rack and Ruin - Artifacts abound in the meta

Cranial Extraction - Destroys decks with few win conditions

Price of Progress - Maybe Sideboard card, but I see a lot of nonbasics out there

Burning Wish - to fetch answers from the board - see sideboard

------

Sideboard card choices:

Pyrostatic Pillar - hurts combo

Meltdown - burning wish fetchable pressure on opponent's mana base (XR- destroy all artifacts with cc X or less)

Scorched Earth - burning wish fetchable pressure on opponent's mana base

Cranial Extraction - 2 more in the board - burning wish fetchable

Chalice of the Void - kills combo and disrupts many others

Boil - for the pesky blue mages - burning wish fetchable

Planar Void - houses combo and anything relying on Yawg will

Rolling Thunder - wish fetchable DD

Lava Dart - dead welders and fish

Defense Grid - vs control

Grave Consequences - Looks good against dragon (1B - Each player may remove any number of cards in his or her graveyard from the game. Then each player loses 1 life or each card in his or her graveyard. Draw a card. )

Tormod's Crypt - another graveyard hate card

-----------------

Other card considered for maindeck or sideboard inclusion were/are:

Mind Twist - seems weak without Drains

Null Rod - not so good anymore, but worth considering

Chains of Mephistopheles - Everyone's drawing but me, Maindeck or sideboard? I could invest in some of these

Fork - To use other's draw engine for my own benefit (AK, Ancestral), also serves to double up on my good spells.

Night's Whisper - Draw Engine

Skeletal Scrying - Draw engine, but without Mana Drain seems weak

------------------

I know there's no draw engine, which is why Skeletal Scrying and Night's Whisper (and to a lesser extent Fork) are under consideration.

Any input would be most helpful, thanks

I'm sorry, but hate decks never win.  I think you would be better playing a good budget deck like FCG or Fish.  Since it is 5 proxy you could play Doomsday.

Anyways, if you want to play this deck I would basically cut the black.  There are really no reason to play black unless you want to maindeck 4 Chains of Mephistopheles.  Honestly, this deck looks like it kills way too slow to be competitive and should probably be mono red, or possibly splashing for Chains.
