Rapacious Antlion Creature -- Insect 2/2 Sacrifice an insect: Put a +1/+1 counter on Rapacious Antlion. *** Immediately after creating "Cloak of Ants," my mind went on an ant spree and the idea of an antlion came to mind. Looking at Wikipedia, I realize that only the antlion larvae actually eat ants -- the antlion itself is a weak, flying insect, the adult stage of which probably only serves as a breeding vector. Oh well, fiction has been using antlions for ages now, so we'll conveniently ignore that fact.

Did you know that Red is the color or art and music and passion? Combine that with Green, the color of nature, spiritualism, and community and you get a hippie commune of drum circles, dreamcatchers, and recreational drug use. Let's see that win a Pro Tour.

Antbound Ravager . It looks correctly costed, but this sort of card depends almost entirely on how many good Insects are printed with it. In a block with a lot of good ones this could be very, very good, in a block with none this is very meh.

I love that nickname, Nazdakka. I laughed aloud when I read it. I think you're right about the block dependance of this card's quality, but I wouldn't mind generating it in a vacuum. It's a card that would be a lot of fun to play, given all of the insects ever printed to play with.

What about making it a Larva that turns into an Insect when It has X or more counters on it? That would mirror what happens in the real life, the larva eats tiny insects and then turns into the adult insect. Something like Rapacious Antlion Creature -- Larva 2/2 Sacrifice an Insect: Put a +1/+1 counter on Rapacious Antlion. When ~this~ has X or more counters on it, sacrifice it and put a ?/? Insect token with Flying into play.

I'm really unenthusiastic about that idea, Toad. Sorry. If I were striving for realism, it would have to become a 1/1 creature after the sacrifice. That's what happens to Giant Caterpillar, but you get to choose when to pop that. I definitely don't want to be forced to stop this thing's growth, just because I don't want it to start sucking. It's just a flavour suggestion that makes this card a lot worse. Maybe if the ability were optional -- "Sacrifice Rapacious Antlion: Put a 1/1 black Insect token with flying into play. Play this ability only if Rapacious Antlion has three or more +1/+1 counters on it." -- I'd be more receptive to it. Also, I'm definitely NOT going to make this a larva. Even Giant Caterpillar starts off as an insect (although it does become a Butterfly.)

How about tweaking cloak of ants, or making some other card with synergy for this? Kind of like the symbiotic creature cycle that turned into black insects.

I'm not very eager about that idea either, Pizzatog. There will be plenty of time to create some good insects without tampering with the cards I have in the works right now. It isn't urgent that we create cards to make this playable, right now. I am going to invite commentary on my modification to Toad's suggestion, but I am also going to tentatively start the 48 Hour Clock.

I prefer the Current Wording as is. Adding that is just trying to do too much with the card. EDIT: to Pizzatog, look here and here, two cards of mine that were inspired by this one, and (particularly "Parasitic Wasps") have synergy with Antlion. And please comment on them. They're starting to get lonely.
