Featured on MagicTheGathering.com is a preview of Ninth Edition. On the cover it's "some sort of winged woman with a sword." My guess is it is Serra Angel. My question is: What do you think about this new look for her?

Though I like the original art the best, I like is a lot better than the seventh and eighth edition one. Your opinions?

Yes, this is almost certainly Serra, and this art is far superior to the previous three (original, 7th, and Rebecca Guay) attempts. The seventh edition one was just "blah," Guay is cool in general, but ultimately underwhelming, and despite its "classic" appeal, the old art just isn't very good.

MUCH better than the one from Eighth, at least.  Eight's Serra Angel didn't look a day over fourteen.  Ya gotta laugh when something that looks like it's getting ready for Freshman Prom tries flying at you with a sword.

I will break into your house while you aren't home and disguise myself as a chair. Then I will leave before you get home, but there will be a place at your table where I was a chair and you will wonder why there isn't a chair there. Then later I will leave the chair disguise on your doorstep and you will realize what has happened and you will be afraid all the time. Helter Skelter mother fuckers!

Anything done by Guay is superior to anything not done by her.  A lot of people will back me up on this (Kowal for sure if he reads this).

Yeah, I'm not as big a fan of Guay as other people (my favorite artist is Tedin), but the Guay art for Serra Angel is by far the best that's been done, and definitely better than this.  No question.

Guay > *

All you other brothers can't deny, that when a card sees print with a watercolor face and intelligent use of space you get sprung.

There are probably only like five artists that are equal/better than Guay in terms of mtg cards. Still, I like the 9th serra illustration better than the three previous ones.

I'm going to have to go with the 9th Edition artwork. Rebecca Guay is a fantastic artist, but her Serra Angel looks like she's just holding that sword until the real warrior shows up.

Did you know that Red is the color or art and music and passion? Combine that with Green, the color of nature, spiritualism, and community and you get a hippie commune of drum circles, dreamcatchers, and recreational drug use. Let's see that win a Pro Tour.

-Alpha art: looks like the angelic version of Jeanne d'Arc: she's invincible, leads an army and is hot.

-7th + 8th art: enough has been said about it. I'm on the side of the "is she old enough to drink?" people.

-This art? This one looks like the perfect example of improving the Alpha art. More angelic, more heroic, bigger wings and probably a bigger army.

Ergo: I love it and hope Sengir Vampire gets done again as well with this kind of art! (Sengir > Serra.)

Kasuras, did you see the Torment Sengir? Kev Walker is probably my favorite artist.

Yes, I most definitely did. And although the art is awesome and in my opinion better than the other art: it doesn't have that touch that makes a truly magnificent art.

Not that both arts can be compared since one is more abstract while the other is more like a single character. Makes me think about the old beatdown Sengir Vampire which was ninja-style awesome. I'm hoping for something like that one.

Is it just me or does the angel pictured on the 9th edition box look a little manly??? If that art is meant to be a women its either a canadian or an australian women... because that angel is built! Guay is awsome no matter what though...
