Not to be out done by Ephraim, I am going to post a couple of flashy White creatures. Both are creatures I created a long time ago and posted on the old Mana Drain forum, but were never added to the Master List (because I posted them in a thread with over 50 other cards). Devoted Paladin 3WW Creature -- Knight 3/3 Protection from black You can't be the target of black spells or abilities. I got the idea for this card partly from an article on the Wizards of the Coast M:TG website that mentioned Whirling Dervish and how, "back in the day, it was a total beating against a monoblack deck. Black had no way of dealing with it". That lead to creation of Diabolic Edict and "an environment in which protection no longer causes black any real headaches". With both protection from black and "you can't be the target of black spells or abilities", Devoted Paladin can't be killed by targeted removal such as Terror and Dark Banishing, or by black spells that target a player such as Diabolic Edict and Chainer's Edict (although Innocent Blood would kill it). Also, with a toughness of 3, black's untargeted -1/-1 and -2/-2 spells (such as Massacre and Infest) will not kill Devoted Paladin.  |

No Magic world has yet had a monotheistic, much less Jeudo-Christian, theology.
That being said, I like the creature loads from flavor perspectives. But it dampens the idea of making a black-hosing creature to make it unplayable. It should either be cheapened somehow, or made more like a control creature- giving it +0/+2 and Vigilance would highly increase it's playability.

When I first read this, I thought it was ultra-cool, because I thought the second ability read, "You can't be the target of spells or abilities" -- eg, Ivory Mask on a 3/3, pro-black creature. Now that I think about it, that's probably really pushing the curve, but that's what I would aim for with this. Maybe if you were then to increase the cost to  {W}{W}{W}, since it would be a fusion of several very-white ideas, it would be somewhat more fairly costed. |

Is from the first core set, which drew from a number of sources, including many real world ones. Ditto to Arabian Nights. After that, when the seperate planes of the Magic Multiverse began to come to life, this didn't happen. |

Compared to True Believer, this is overcosted. For WW, you get a 2/2, Ivory Mask on a stick. Here, an extra 2W gives +1/+1 and protection from Black. Admittedly, the base cost of a White 3/3 is 4, but look at Dawn Elemental for what else you can get for that 4. A problem here, I think, is that White doesn't really do midrange creatures very well. One more mana could give you cause to make it a 4/4 Angel with flying and the other abilities. Making it a 2/2 or 2/3 could allow you to drop a W from the cost.

I had forgotten about True Believer. I'm not really certain what to make of this now. Two creatures with the Ivory Mask ability seems inappropriate to me, regardless of how different they are in other regards.
