yeah, sorry I'm a little late on this, but I was talking to friend today about how much he enjoyed this and I really wanted to start one up. I'd join a Public league, but it's a lot nicer to have a Private one, and it allows for better control over everything.

If anyone is interested, please please respond as soon as possible, by posting here and/or contacting me via PM.

Here are a few basics:

1. This is strictly for fun, so it doesn't matter as much that we're starting so late. There's no prize or money involved (it's free to join), just bragging rights and friendly competetion. The late start may even be for the best since we have a bit of an idea at who's hot/not.

2. It'll use yahoo!'s system, but we can decide upon the specifics when we have everyone interested.

3. There is a maximum of twenty teams per league. To avoid any prejudices, I'll take the first twenty people to respond. If interest is great enough, I'll start multiple leagues (Even if less than 20 people respond, it may be a good idea to start two, as really big leagues can kind of suck. This will be ironed out later.)MODIFICATION: There will be 10 teams per league max.

4. Yahoo!'s system has already closed the option for live drafts, and the two remaining options are Offline Draft and Autopick Draft. Since Offline is a bit complicated, we'll be using Autopick. (So set a preference list, and the computer picks accordingly.)

5. Since I'm a bit late on the uptake as it is, I'd like to start this ASAP. While I'm not going to set an exact deadline, I'd like to get this started by the middle of next week.

Okay, I think that's everything. If you have any additional questions or would like to join, just drop a post.

Me three.

Just out of curiosity though, is there any trading involved?

I think so. This is the first time I'm using this system, and the friend I was talking to swears by it, and I trust his judgement. If I understand correctly, you can trade any player any time to another team, as well as drop any player, and pick up any unsigned player. Since it is strictly casual, there are an infinite number of trades you can make.

A couple of provisoes:
1) There are two options for vetoing trades: You can either set it up so that 1/3 of the teams in the league can veto, or just the commissioner (the starter of the league aka Me). My friend prefers the commissioner option, because it's less time intensive, and you can use the players you traded for right away. Unless someone has a serious objection, I'm going with this one. There is also a trade deadline. (NOTE: The reason the option for vetoing trades exists is so that two players can't team up and stack one team, or if a player is doing poorly, he can't unbalance the league by throwing all his superstars to a friend.)

2) There is a Can't Cut List consisting of superstars that you cannot cut (but CAN trade), again so that a losing player can't cause a disturbance. The probem is, you also can't cut them if they are injured. I'm turning this option off, with a "Don't Be a Douchebag" Rule in affect.

Also, after further discussion, I've come to realize that 20 teams is WAY too many, as it would force people to eventually draft people they've probably never even heard of towards the end. I've be told 8 in the ideal number, but I think I'm going to shoot for maybe ten instead. Again, more than one league is a definite possibility if interest is high enough.

Oh, and you need a Yahoo! account, but those are free, too.

C'mon people! I'd really like to have at least 3 more people for this, preferably 5-7. I also can't wait much longer to get it started, so if you're interested, please respond ASAP. This could be a lot of fun, and I see it as a way of getting to know some TMD'ers much better.

I would definitely like to play.

What is the format?  I prefer 5X5 roto substituting OBP for Batting Average.
Pitching categories:  Wins, Saves, WHIP, ERA, Strikeouts
Hitting categories:  OBP or Avg, Runs, Home Runs, RBI, Stolen Bases

Im already doing a league but I just wanted to voice my opinion and say that HR and Ks are straight up horrid stats to use.  In my league we replaced these with SLG and K/9 several years ago.  SLG makes the pool of useful position players a bit deeper and gives savvy owners the chance to find real gems that would normally be overlooked and K/9 actually makes non-closing relievers actually worth something.  Granted this may be more important in our league since its 12 teams and we require 4 RPs, but I think they generally increase the skill necessary to do well too.
