I think giving the First Strike if a White or Red creature is enchanted is the most logical solution. I actually kind of like that. |

Well, let's see. Lances, especially the actual card Lance, have always been directly related to first strike. And, this spell is Free. Hm... My vote goes to Freelance. I'm so good with names. |

I dislike Gauntlets of Order as it is so non-Red. As this enchantment causes First Strike (in the hands of the fighting colours) and greater attacking damage I image a longer heavier weapon.
Two-handed Sword
Bastard Sword (non-sure if Wizards would get away with that but we can)
Bohemian Ear-Spoon (I always wondered WTF this was doing in AD&D weapon lists)
Another alternative direction is to view this as a 'defence through attacking' option
Spiked Buckler
Bitten Shield (the old style method of getting into a battle frenzy)
All of these require the skills of a warrior to use correctly, wimpy wizards might be better off with a Spiked Buckler than without but don't expect them to use it as well as a soldier. Any fool can don Gauntlets, an Ear-Spoon is for specialists!

Equipment has taken over a lot of the design space that Enchant Creature used to have. I see no great problem with giving a creature a magical weapon or weapon enhancement (magical energy) rather than a lump of steel (mechanical aid).
The artwork would need to reflect the magical nature of the effect but as long as it is clear that this is not something you can drop and have picked up by someone else, I don't think it is a problem.
One of the problems with this card is giving a reason why Red and White creatures get First Strike and other don't. By going in the direction of equipment (but hopefully remaining distinct from it), my suggestions stress the need for skilled use. If it is felt that this card needs to take a different direction, I think the named Refined Technique could be used to suggest magical enhancement of existing combat skill.

You should probably model the wording after Tenza, Godo's Maul;
Equipped creature gets +1/+1. As long as it’s legendary, it gets an additional +2/+2. As long as it’s red, it has trample.
So your card would probably look like this:
Enchanted creature gets +1/+1. As long as it's white or red, it has first strike.

Your opponent then casts StP and you just lost 2 cards for 1.
The simple fact is that Enchant Creature cards are fundamentally bad and have to be potentially very good in order to not suck. Would you put this card in any deck you have over Bonesplitter? In your example would you put it in the deck over Rancor (or would you run 8 Enchant Creatures?)?

It's a 3-card combo that only works in Legacy and Vintage and which doesn't win you the game right away. I don't think there's anything to be concerned about there. |
