Steel Barricade

If a source would deal 4 or more damage to you, prevent that damage.

The barricade saved the soldiers from the juggernaut, but a hail of arrows were their demise.


I thought about costing this at 4, but felt that might be too good. Also, any suggestions for a better name or flavortext are welcome.

I don't know. This is better (in most cases) than Urza's Armor which costs more. But it does feel like a white ability:

Divine Presence

Also, if a mountainside can't stop a Juggernaut (which can't be blocked by walls), I don't think a steel barricade can... unless you weren't talking about this Juggernaut...

Hmm. Didn't know Divine presence existed.

I know this sounds like a white ability, but artifacts have had damage reduction in the past. If divine presence was an artifact, it would likely cost 4. Therefore, 5 was a good cost for this card as it is better than divine presence.

The flavortext was the first thing i thought of and probably should be changed.

This also only prevents damage to you, not to your stuff.

The reason this is white is more than just the damage prevention, it's the kind of damage which is prevented. This is a real "help the little guy/screw over the big meany" kind of card, which is TOTALLY white.

Now what you could do is have the flavor being that the barricade takes the damage first.  Something like:

If a source would deal damage to you or a creature you control, prevent that damage.  If it would deal 4 or more damage, destroy <this>.

Or maybe:
If a source would deal damage to you or a creature you control, prevent that damage and put that many charge counters on <this>.
At the end of turn if this has 4 or more charge counters on it, destroy <this>.  Otherwise, remove all charge counters from <this>.
