I've got mushroom clouds in my hands

About five minutes ago, I booked a four day trip to Barcelone (Spain). I'm leaving early tomorrow.

Obviously I'll mostly be visiting The Sights (TM) and possibly spend an afternoon at the beach or something, but I'm also game for other stuff. If anyone who lives there or has visit the city could point out some other cool stuff besides the obvious tourist traps, I'd be grateful.

I'm thinking relatively obscure musea, good but cheap restaurants, cool bars and clubs (plus places to avoid ;-) and possible even a place to drop by where I can watch people play Magic ;-)

Anyone got anything?

Thanks for the superb replies, people :-/ When I get back, I´ll start banning alls Spanish people from these boards

Anyway, um, I´m there now. I mean here. In Barcelona. It´s, well, awesome. It´s possibly the coolest and prettiest city I´ve even been in. If my camera hadn´t suddenly decided to start munching my CF cards, this could have been the best trip I´ve even been on. God, I really hope I can salvage some pics to show you people. Oh, and as you might have noticed¨ they use different keyboards.

Enough talk for now. There´s a Las Ramblas outside the door waiting for me.

I really hope you'll be able to get some pics and show us the hotness of Barcelona. I was there for two days when I was like 14, and the only thing I remember is the HUGE smog cover over the city. Bring back some experience, so when anybody else ever goes, we can ask you! :p

Enjoy your trip -- I hope the weather is good for you, because right now, there is no summer in middle Europe. At least not where I am!

Maybe this is the backlash for choosing the wrong side in the whole Lions vs. Midgets debate?  Wink
Seriously though, if I had known anything about Spain that was real (in other words, not discovered while playing Resident Evil 4), I'd have let you know.  So instead I'll say this:
The cultists never go down just once.

I will break into your house while you aren't home and disguise myself as a chair. Then I will leave before you get home, but there will be a place at your table where I was a chair and you will wonder why there isn't a chair there. Then later I will leave the chair disguise on your doorstep and you will realize what has happened and you will be afraid all the time. Helter Skelter mother fuckers!

I'm from Spain and had visited Barcelona twice (I live in the south, in Sevilla). I don't know many Spanish vintage players that visit TMD, but at least I know of two that have posted there Razz

I share your thoughts, Barna is an awesome city. The beauty of the buildings, the streets... I don't remenber too much, I went to Barna to attend a Manga/Anime convention that is held in October and missed the tourist part of the travel xD all I remember is Plaza Catalunya, Plaza Urquinaona, Las Ramblas, Via Laietana and the Cathedral (my hotel was near those places Razz).

well, good luck in your travel, hope you don't get annoyed with the... er... dialect that is Catalan Razz

Thanks all Wink

Indeed, Europe is having one of the crrappier summers on record. Over here, things are better. Hot (25-28 degrees Celcius...I don´t feel like converting to Fahrenheit), cloudy in the mornings, clearing up around noon, and staying clear and sunny right until sunset.

I just came back from a spanish guitar concert in a cathedral I stumbled upon. This guy is supposed to be one of the greatest spanish guitar players in the world, and indeed it was awesome (cathedral acoustics kick ass).

I´ve been having an all round great time, and have covered the major tourist attractions in the city. There is however far, far too much to see and do in a mere 4 days. I still havent seen all the tourist traps, let alone dig a little deeper to find the ´real Barcelona.

Oh, and regarding the dialect: as I don´t speak Spanish, I can´t tell it apart from Catalan. I don´t tell this to the locals though, or they´ll eat me alive Wink

Anyway, back in Dutchieland on Thursday. Cheers from sunny Spain, everybody!

[edit]OK, so I came back wednesday, obviously Smile

Whoops. You posted exactly 3 minutes too late. My credit at the EasyInternet cafe ran out just after posting my last message, and I didn't check back until now. And guess where I am...back home :-/

Sorry man. But on the other hand, that gives me another reason to go back there soon. You should have called me...they even sold official merchandise at the airport.

More bad news: about 30-40 of the pictures I took are now corrupt files. The good news is that about 120 came out pretty well.
