Stifle + Phyrexian Dreadnought

To me this seems odd, but someone busted this out against me on MWS, and I didn't want to object.

Can you really just cast stifle on phyrexian dreadnought as he comes in? Thus not having to sac creatures?

Totally illegal. Dreadnought has a replacement effect, meaning that it doesn't have anything to target. Also, it never even enters play.

Stifle targets effects with either "cost:effect" or the words "at, whenever, when" in them.

To be fair, as worded on the card, this would work. But Dreadnaught has recieved errata, and you should always check gatherer.wizards.com to check the latest wordings.

yeah ok, so I guess the guy was a scrub, but at least I beat him anyways.
