Name
{1}{G}{G}
Legendary Enchantment
Spells with the same name as a card in your graveyard cost {1} less to play.

I made it legendary just so you couldn't get multiples into play. I was thinking in dandan's thread about how "knight" isn't tied to specific color, and I was about to say, "the creature type Wizard is like this too, except for green, because green doesn't really study - it prefers to get its knowledge from other sources." Then I started thinking about how green knowledge works.

I don't think it's too powerful. Intuition would break this but it breaks a lot of things.

The flavor is that this should be a large tree, or grove of trees, whereupon green druids and elves scribe the forest's history, an epic tale stretching back hundreds or thousands of years. Possibly the trees themselves could grow the words right into their bark. This would be an ideal central location for the green part of a plane, when we get into story-building. In fact, I'm thinking of a good plot - black invades and destroys the forest's history, and events proceed from there.

I don't think this is over powerful at all. It is far less broken with Intuition than Sphere is (as that reduces Intuition and the spell by 1 each and costs less mana than your Tree).

I think you could easily go down to GG or add Sacrifice ~this~: Draw a card (call it misuse of Nature's resources if you like!)

Then again I seem to be going through one of more aggressive phases regarding card power.

I could also see this as a creature 0/4 or the like which may or may not add utility. (it make be a tree of knowledge but it also happens to prevents little Goblins running though it.

Not that there's anything wrong with the flavour you've described, but we couldn't use it. That's exactly what Tel-Jilad was in the Mirrodin setting. If, instead, you were to pattern this card's flavour after the Norse Worldtree, you might have something we could use.

Did you know that Red is the color or art and music and passion? Combine that with Green, the color of nature, spiritualism, and community and you get a hippie commune of drum circles, dreamcatchers, and recreational drug use. Let's see that win a Pro Tour.

This is pretty weak as-is. Making it a creature would be a lot more interesting.

Also, yeah, that's exactly the Mirrodin setting. Tel-Jilad, the Tree of Tales and all that.

Yeah, I knew that. But I thought it was good and it SURE didn't come across in the cards.

Just a thought, maybe make it read something along the lines of "If you would play a spell, it costs {1} less to play for each card in a graveyard with the same name" AK style.  That gives it a little more power in constructed formats, but it's self regulating since most spells don't have like 4 colourless mana in the cost to remove.

It seems like you could tack "and gain one life" on the end there for cool points.

edit: note that under your original wording, your opponent benefits.

Yeah, I knew that. But I thought it was good and it SURE didn't come across in the cards.

It may be just one card, but Tel-Jilad Stylus makes the point crystal clear:
"Etched on Tel-Jilad’s trunk is an entire history of Mirrodin—except for an expanse near the ground scrubbed smooth by an unknown hand."

Oh yeah. I was mostly referring to the artifact land itself, but...whatever.

I'm gonna scrap this.
