No need to diss our country's pride, the kroket (not 'kok'...that was the name of our former prime minister) just because your religion prevents you from eating it  Though I must admit, that was a smart move and the best excuse I've heard to date  Also: you haven't lived until you've tried 'boerenkool met worst'. Yeah, I've still got it. -DTHTGood lord, Bram; I can't decide whether to comment on your rampant, plaguelike ADD or that thing in the picture (the overcooked Twinkie - not the guy who looks like he knows what kind of porn is on your computer). ANYWAYS, I've tried those KMC thingies and I gotta say nothing really compares to a nice pack of Ultra Pro Raven Black - not to be confused with a bad pack, since some packs come with sleeves slightly uneven to each other, causing rough shuffling. I think I know now why some countries have tried their damnedest to keep American fast food out - it'd put their local cuisine to shame (that and the whole 'our fast food is nasty' argument). Although I'd have to say the 'boerenkool met worst' probably isn't NEARLY as bad as it looks - I've eaten and will continue to eat Indian food, which is what the green mush SORT OF resembles. |

For those of you who really want to know:
Boeren kool = green cabbage
worst = frankfurter wurst (the one here depicted probably is Unox but anyhow)
What is on the picture Bram was nice enough to show us probably contains boerenkool stampot. The translation for that is probably non existant as it is a really dutch dish. It contains of mashed potatoes and green cabbage, mashed together. I cannot seem to distinguish the potatoes and thus it is very possible that it is just green cabbage. Although then it has been cooked way to long, as it looks snotty to me.
What really is a dutch dish and is very, very good is just stampot. It can be made in several different ways but the main way to do it is this:
Have carrots, unions and potatoes. First cook the potatoes after getting the skin off. Cut the unions and the carrots into bits and pieces and cook those together. When both pans are ready (should be 1:1) just put them together and mash them really well. Add salt to the dish to your taste.
Then you can have all kinds of meat to your liking with this. Common in Holland is pork, but it can easily be lam or beef. Another nice addition is a meatball.
Believe me when i say it tastes really well. And for those of you who have seen me, i can know it and you know it.

You could also add some Bacon to the paste for some extra flavour btw. |

Texture is just as important to good food as taste! BTW bacon is always welcome. |
