Yanoman stopped making the old Gunmetals a year ago or something, and the new ones are different from the old ones. I have some of both so I can tell what changed.

I am wondering if anyone has any similar experience with Dragon Shields. I heard that there are "new" ones, but I don't have enough of them to know. Are they any different? Do they split as much as the old ones do? Are they worth using?

I'm a huge fan of the Dragon Shields, though my experience is limited to about the last year and a half.  So, if they are a "new" version, I couldn't tell you.  I will say that they do split from time to time, but it takes a pretty good beating to do it.  Usually, catching the seam directly when shuffling and really crunching it together.  The backs do scuff up and will eventually get marked, but it does take a fair amount of time (I've had some sleeves last for two or three tournaments easily).  My major complaint is that the sleeves are very slick to start with and take some time to "wear" a bit before they are more manageable.  But, the overall quality of the sleeves outweigh these negatives, as well as what you get.

But, in comparison to some of the other sleeves I've used... They are definitely very good.  If your past experience was bad, then I think you will probably find the new ones are much better.

I played GAT with some of them over a year ago, and I don't know if they were "new" or not. I would side shuffle the deck, and the sleeves would get caught and rip all the time. After playing the deck a few times I didn't even have enough sleeves for the maindeck.

My side shuffle puts the corner of one half against the side of the other, and it is pretty high on the side. I have one set of sleeves that have never split and the corners haven't bent (even though the backs are worn). I would like to get more of them, but the problem is I don't know what brand they are. I won them for making T8 at a tournament in High Point, NC, and haven't seen any other sleeves like them.

Ive been using the Pink Dragon Shields for a while now and they seem to hold up pretty well (with the only exception being that this color seems to pick up dirt on the back somewhat easy) they seem strong and I would reccomend them...

their downfalls are that sometimes the cards tend to ride up in the sleeve which can make shuffling precarious if you arent careful (dont want to stick the bottom corner of a sleeve in through the middle of an expensive card now do we?) and they do start out very slick and the pile falls over for a bit until they get worn in a bit...

whether these are "new" im not sure...

My other favorites for one time tourney use are actually the cheapest Ultra Pro plain Blue sleeves (grey seems good too, and red is allright, but not entirely opaque) They hold up great for a big tourney and last and last and last as sleeves for my 5-color deck and test decks....plus at only like $2.00 for a pack of 50 it isnt too expensive...

I use the same shuffle. The only sleeves that have never split on me are UltraPro deck protectors from 1998 -- my first set of sleeves ever, and they still hold. (No joke!) At the moment, I use KMC card barriers, which sometimes split, but much less than the current UltraPro sleeves (which are crap) and which are long enough for comfortable protection of my Vintage cards. The corner bend with my last set of KMC's became notable after ~10 months, but did not necessitate replacement then.

Man, you guys must beat the everloving shit out of your cards. I use blue Dragon Shields and while they DO scuff up on the back, I have never once split a sleeve in like four months of using the same sleeves.

I have gradually been resleeving my decks with the silver dragon shields and have yet to split a sleeve.  I will admit that virgin dragon shields, for me anyways, were a bitch to shuffle and rifle.  Sometimes I was playing 60 card pickup.  But i love the look when you freshly sleeve a deck and it looks like a 100 card one with the little amount of air still in the sleeve hahaha.

Can anyone direct me to a place that sells these?  I'm sort of a sleeve connoisseur.

i was too, and then it got lame. almost all sleeves get dirty, using a mat doesn't help too much, playing in tourney's definately doesn't help since non-scrupulous people get to freely touch your decks. i even value my "new" sleeves more than my expensive cards, since expensive cards will stay nice forever, and sleeves will not.

I feel the same way.  I've never really taken a large amount of money and put it towards sleeves.  Consequently, I've always had to replace them after 3-4 months or get more in the same color (which always screws up because the store I get them from never has the same color at a later date.)

I simply use the $2.50 for 50 UltraPro 1 color sleeves.  They're very mediocre, easily scuffable and 1 or 2 tear in half a week. (Probably due to the way I crush shuffle, I'm not afraid to beat them together) However, my teammates have enjoyed using the Dragon Shields, they shuffle nearly as hard as I do and they hardly split for them.  So perhaps I'll give them a try.

I used to use the crappy Ultra Pros:

(It seems now that Ultra-Pro is only interested in selling the sleeves with art on them (which I HATE).)

Ever since switching to Dragonshields, my old sleeves feel like shuffling tree bark together. Dragonshields are THAT MUCH better.

I've never split a Dragon Shield. The new ones are fine, but I like longer sleeves and I've been having a hard time finding them lately.

Otherwise, I usually buy KMC sleeves from Starcity. Those are just fine and I've never split one of those; the shuffle nicely as well. It's really too bad about the Gunmetals, those were my favorites.

For everyone, what's the longest sleeve on the market these days? I haven't been able to find anything that's much longer than the long side of the card, and it's a pain to clean crud off the upper edge of my cards.

Yeah, I like to have a lot of sleeves because I like to have a lot of decks built at once.

Anyway, where can you get these things??

do any of you shield your decks in specific colors?  I have been shielding my type 1 in silver and my type 2 in black.  or do you shield it based upon a deck theme?  I first bought the silver dragon shields because i was building a type 2 affinity and wanted silver sleeves to match the artifact border and loved em and bought a ton more.

Shielding in themes might strategically be a bad idea and unless the sleeves are an off magic color or black (I refuse to buy white) then I will generally go out of my way to sleeve a deck in a color it isn't.

true... but no one who plays burn shields it in red?

i remember one tournament where a guy had a burn deck shielded in blue, and I remember a guy playin masticontrol shielded in red.  I have also seen a kobold deck shielded with those new dragon artwork sleeves.  When I asked the guy what gives... he said it was to make his kobolds seem more fierce lol.

When the different colored sleeves first came out, people would sleeve their decks in appropriate colors.  These days, it's stupid to try to read anything into the color of sleeves your opponent is using.  There's so many colors that like you can't remotely assume that because your opponent has red sleeves he's playing a red deck.  There's even like 5 kinds of red sleeves.

Lunar, do you know the definition of Slander?

I don't believe what I said was false? Considering the evidence?
However, I will agree with you that this is probably not the place to take shots at God_Campbells behavior on the board(s) ...

Lunar, do you know the definition of Slander?

A malicious, false, and defamatory statement or report.

while according to some campbell might not have a great name to begin with, (something I would know absolutly nothing about) there was no reason in the world why you would have to bring up anything in the past that you even state you know little about....the fact that you personally know nothing or at least barely anything about the situation means that anything that you might have to add to a discussion about campbell should be basically tossed right out the window...while the "false" is the one issue in question your comments definatly fit the other two criteria of slander....

wow...so why even mention it...?

To tell you the truth with the limited discussion and stuff ive had with the guy, I have found nothing wrong with him...but thats just me and I dont know full details on what might have happened in the past...

If im wrong about the guy, then im wrong about the guy....but there was just no need.

but as to the topic at hand...

@ forcefield....man, we found the pink ones a while back and they just look amazing...they make foils look SOOOO good...I love them.

Well one shop near me just got some really really nice looking Bright Oranges and some Bright Yellows that look pretty killer, I just love the way the pinks make the foils look, especially with some new aquisitons for my deck...soooo nice, plus hell, they are pink...you cant really beat that.
