So, I wanted a new deck, so I went to the nearest card shoppe and made a deck out of there random commons/uncommons box. For all purposes, this is a peasant magic deck, though cheap throwaway rares are welcome (I just don't want to see people saying "Add four berserk", or the like). Anyways, how can I:

A. Fit in two Hull Breaches?
B. Makes this better without spending an obscene amount of money on it?

Here it is:

Dogs, Atog, and Eggs:

Creatures:

2x Lithatog
4x Sarcatog
3x Atog
4x Wild Mongrel

Disruption:

4x Pyrite Spellbomb
4x Ghastly Demise
2x Terminate

Equipment:

4x Mask of Memory

Eggs:

3x Darkwater Egg
4x Mossfire Egg
3x Sungrass Egg
3x (Red/Black) Egg

Land:

4x Great Furnace
3x Mountain
4x Tree of Tales
3x Forest
4x Vault of Whispers
3x Swamp

61 Cards

The deck basically gets out a threat early (Usually Mongrel), Cycles through the deck with the eggs while filling up the graveyard for sarcatog, and then finishes with an atog of some sort. Simple, but it has been surprisingly effective so far.

Atog relies on blue cards (blue/black psychatog is the only good tog dude) to draw you cards, fill up the graveyard, and provide the 20/21 beatstick.  In terms of color fixing eggs, they are used by alternative tendrils decks far better then they are by any tog decks I've run across (and evey there they are the weakest cards in the deck).  Get some AK's, some intuitions, demonic tutor, yawgmoth's will, fact or fiction, gush, frantic search, daze perhaps, gifts ungiven, and probably add tinker and colossus because it's really sweet man.  Once you add draw power, your tog will start killing on turns 3-4 which should make you a happy man.  If you want to add splash green and berzerk or cunning wish for berzerk that makes tog kill on turn 3 sometimes, although that is rare indeed as TOG is a slow deck that relies on multiple answers and control to stick through.  If you can get force of will and mana drain that's cool too  Wink  Also, fast mana such as mox and lotus petal are good, and for Type 1 you need a full set of power to even think about being competitive as TOG would currently be the slowest deck in the format so proxy it up if you're interested in the most broken format in magic.

Atogs are probably the most broken creature type ever printed, and Atog himself is far and away the strongest of the Atogs. While Wild Mongrel is a fine card in some decks, I'm not sure he's quite as strong as he needs to be. Why discard an artifact to get +1/+1 when you can feed it to an Atog and get +2/+2?

Then, of course, there are some cards that might make this a bit better. Disciple of the Vault is a good little creature that can make Atog even more powerful than I already am -- I mean than he already is. I bet Disciple would have good synergy with the deck, and will be great in the mirror match as well.

Then, there's the matter of getting the most bang for your buck. Berserk, of course, would be awesome, but I understand your budget constraints. So how about Fling? You can effectively use it to Berserk and unblocked Atog, and it has the added advantage of being able to let you cirumvent combat altogether. Between Fling and Disciple, Fog is no longer something to fear at all.

Then there is the matter of recursion. You need some way to "break" the Atog's ability, moreso than it already is. How about Yawgmoth's Will? Yawgmoth will let you re-eat all those tasty artifacts. Don't worry -- they're just as yummy the second time around. And, of course, having more good artifacts to eat wouldn't be bad, either. Sensei's Diving Top is nice -- you can stack the draw ability, and then eat it, and still draw a card. And Chroatic Sphere is much better than any egg.

So, those are some ideas. To see a powered version of this deck that I've worked on, just search for "The Atog Deck" in this casual section.

Good luck Smile

Thanks, disciples are a really good idea, as well as fling. I will consider putting both in. Yawgy's Will is good, but by the time it would matter, I've probably already won, plus it has bad synergy with sarcatog. But I really like the other two ideas, and I will institute them once I figure what to take out.

Terrarion looks to be amongst the tastiest of artifacts an atog can eat, as it's draw card ability triggers even when fed to an atog.

Sensei's Top can do this too. Just stack the draw ability and enjoy!
