Hey guys...
Just a little announcement on the Beta Sol Ring tourney @ adventures on 8/27
Eric Brown ends up winning with Akroma Oath (interesting build, maybe he will post it ...)
I would have made top 4 with Cerebral Assasin, but I let Eric in instead due to me being dead tired and not really caring about winning a Sol Ring...
The top 4 ended up being (after I conceded and let Eric in instead of me)
Tony with Gifts Muhommed (spelling is probably wrong, sorry) with 5cStax Eric with Oath and some guy playing Sligh...
It would have been
Tony Muhommed Me (Scott) and the guy playing Sligh
if I wouldnt have conceded...(a draw or a win or a loss with eric losing, which I had all of the above... would have put me in there, but Eric hooked me up a little bit...)
My tourney went a little like this...
Rd 1 against Eric Brown playing Oath
I am able to get out fat early both games, he didnt have enough counters for me, and he ended up getting land screwed both games...I win 2-0
Rd 2 against Muhommed playing 5c Stax
Game 1 he gets out first turn mox mox wasteland crucible against me (which is bad for CA) game 2 I am waaaay in control and then make a really tired mistake and go ahead and try to dragon combo him off when I was going to win anyways....he had a ray of revelation for it and he ended up getting me locked about 20 turns later when I couldnt hit a mox/sol/lotus/crypt/vault to play my yawg will for the win...oh well I lose 0-2 so now im 1-1
being 1-1 was great because it got me out of my teammates way and put me in a bracket with some jank decks...
Rd 3 was against Mike? playing SuiBlack
game 1 I mull to 5 and he opens with land rit hymn lotus necro.....guess who won this one? Game 2 he opens with necro again after my first turn welder...my second turn features a razormane masticore and the next turn is a sundering titan to end that game... Game 3 he opens with first turn negator and beats me down twice before I get masticore out and then I just wrecked his board by pinging the negator then welding in trike to kill his hippy...I win 2-1
Rd 4 against Nik playing T1 White Weenie...
This match wasnt really worth even talking about...Savannah lions and a couple of Swords to Plowshares do little against more than one decent sized threat...Sundering Titan and Masticore are waaaaaaaaaaay more than he can handle...I win 2-0 and go to 3-1
Rd 5 my opponent scoops to me to let me into top 4, a draw would put me there as well, and since Eric had lost to muhommed (scooped since he thought he wouldnt make it since my teammate ben made sure my other teammate Tony made top 4) even with a loss I would have made it in on tie breaks over Eric...
However....at this point I really am done...Im tired and ive been playing bad magic even though im 3-1...I talk with Eric and we talk to the guy running the event and he lets us change it when I say I need to go for an emergency type thing...I change my win to a loss, and Erics loss to a draw to let him in over me....worked out great for him since he ended up winning...
Tony finished at 4-1 I would have finished at 4-1 my teammate Eric playing Oath (different Eric) finished at 3-2 my teammate Ben playing FCG finished 2-3 after scooping to tony in Rd 5.
Would have been 2 in the top 4 if I wouldnt have scooped out of like 15-16 players or so...not too shabby. I would also note the meta turned out better than I was prepared for...I expected fish and madness and sligh and stuff and thats about it (maybe a salvager oath or dragon or two...) BUT in reality the meta was half decent...
something like...
2 Oath (both control, no salvagers or anything) 2 Gifts 1 Sensei Sensei 1 Cerebral Assasin (Brain Rapist) 1 FCG 1 5color Stax 1 Kobolds 1 Sligh 1 White Weenie 1 Sui Black 1 4cc 2 combo decks I couldnt identify upon very very brief looks (they were at the lower tables too so I missed seeing them actually play) If there was anything else I missed it...it was around 15-17 players or so...
the top 4 played out like...
Tony vs Muhommed Sligh vs Eric
Eric vs Muhommed
Eric wins...
It was a fun tourney...I wish I wouldnt have been so damned tired...but I came up on a Bazaar of Bagdhad for next to nothing in trade (no seriously, like maybe $20 in trade...)and got to test out a different build of my deck (it was kinda cool, faster, but less disruption type stuff...very intresting...)
Ill probably go to the one next month for whatever it was for...they are $10 to enter usually and are 10 proxy, this time it was for the Beta Sol Ring, 2nd got a Volcanic Island (RV) and a Factory from AN...not too shabby...
Previous events have been for Italian Drains and playsets of Duals and stuff...
see you all later...

It figures there'd be one of these just as I leave. I should really make it up there one of these days.

These are generally on the third saturday of each month...I dont know if there is for sure one in December, and I didnt confirm the November one until it was too late...
I believe UW Fish ended up winning against something awful like Sui Black in the final (my teammate playing Gifts did a deal in the top 4 to allow Fish to go to the finals, Sui Black beat Oath I believe in the other Semi...) The prize was for a Mana Drain I believe...
In September (the last one I played in) I ended up winning with Cerebral Assasin, UW Control (teammate Kevin) got 2nd and Akroma Oath (Eric Brown) got 3rd, with Muhommed (Stax) getting 4th...The prize then was a NM Italian Drain...
I really dont know what happened in October (I dont know that they actually had one since there was a Release event, Pro Tour event, Halloween Event, and States all in October....)
