Hello!

Lately, there has been a lot of discussion going on about online tournies: so I figured to host one again! However, I'm not going to do so again if people aren't interested in it. I've had that before with a tribal-tourney, and that ended in a catastrophe.

So this thread is for asking whether people are interested in something like this.

I had the following in mind:

-Format: t1.
-No proxies allowed.
-Date: unknown. (open for discussion)
-Prizes: I've contacted Jacob for this, and he is offering custom titles for the winners. I'm considering adding something from my own stack of cards.

I'm not sure about the date yet, mostly because I'm not sure about how to host something like this. I'm in doubt on whether I should host this on 1 day or in several days or even weeks. My experience with hosting a tourney in several weeks is that people aren't as interested in the end as in the start. The downside of a single day is that it requires a lot of work from me, and it could be possible that some people can't play that day.

So: is there any interest for something like this? And is anyone willing to help me out? Smile

I am interested. I could see doing it in one day or at a maxmum of three days, anything past that you probably going to run into problems. I do have some technical questions that should be known upfront and how these questions are addressed might affect people's decisions on wether are not they want to participate.

How do you plan on organzing it? Would we just go to the standard community MWS play site and find each other or would there be a special site we connect to? If it is a global site I suppose someone has to be assigned the role of posting the game, so I suppose there would have to be some type of time limit set-up for how long to wait on your opponent to join your game?

How do you keep people from changing their decklist from round to round or from playing with two Black Lotus? I am asking this because the security feature as of last week wasn't set up to include Ravinica, so anyone using those cards will look like they are playing a non-legal deck.

How do you plan on judging a dispute if one occurs?

I'm planning on using DCI-reporter, and to generally use the same rules Magic-League tends to use. They've been doing this for a few years and I can get in contact easily with the people running it.

Well, I was hoping that the TMD public was mature enough to be a little fair with this stuff.. Other than that, I'm looking into it.

If people report their security number prior to round 1, that should be enough to keep them from changing decks.

I'll probably be able to play in this, if it pans out.  I would prefer that it be a one-day affair, though, as I tend to get forgetful/lazy if I have to play several rounds over the course of a week or so.  I hope this thing gets organized; a tournament of TMD's finest should be a blast.

Since I'm a Magic-League administrator and have been affiliated with the league for some time, I'm pretty familiar with the different types of scenarios that can come up over online play.  If we're planning on having timed rounds or something like that, I can provide a script that easily keeps track of time, etc.  Also, I can probably provide a few more people from Magic-League to help run the event as well.

I'm more than willing to help, and more than willing to play as well.  But I'd do only one of the two  Razz

Would be great!

By the way, you can provide help prior to the tourney and play in it too? Smile

Considering all I do with my free time anymore is watch pr0n and magic league play i'm interested.  I would prefer this wasn't a full day ordeal since some of us (cough cough, college kids) work during the holidays.

I would definately be interested, thought it would depend on date/time as I'm working throughout the holidays as well.

why not work it with 1 round every 24 hours?

That should give ample time for the euro's and the Americans to schedule matches during the day, while allowing people with jobs, and skool to still play.

I actually kind of liked how the Source set up their event, and it seems like a good template for us. At the end of each round, we could post the results and pairings for the next day. Opp can contact each other though PM. I also liked the idea of making a prize structure by allowing people to purchase a bye. However, I think the source made a mistake with allowing 3 bye's in such a small event. I would suggest allowing 1 bye at first, and then allowing the sale of more as the number of people/rounds increased.

In order to purchase a bye, you would put up a certain prize (most likely a card) of equal value and approved by the organizer. At the end of the event, you are responsible for mailing out the prize, standard mail. Any additional protection can be bought by the winner.

The Source also had two more rounds than they should have, although 3 byes in a 5 round event would have also been pretty silly.

The one round every 2 hours seems like a good idea. I would love to play in something like this but currently am holding a temporary job while college is out so schduling could be a issue if we tried having 5-6 rounds in a day.

Oh man I would so be in, but after the previous Source tourney i would have to say I would much rather help than play.  Especially because Vintage is not my forte.

I would really like to play in this.

Doing 3 rounds, two hours a round seems good.  It would be a three day tourney, probably.  (maybe 4).

Any updat0rz?

Sure:

1) Not enough people in my opinion.
2) Too much homework to sacrifice my spare time to not enough people.

Sorry, someone else is more than welcome to take the flame from me though.
