I don't get it. Is this 'gently poking fun at X' while reserving a warm place for it in your heart (as is obvious with, say, Galaxy Quest) or is this meant to insult D&D players? I don't know how much of this is grounded in reality, so I don't fully comprehend what the makers' motivations were.

It was pretty funny at times, but when [SPOILER] the guys almost kissed, it got a bit pathetic.
