I am really confused about this Heroes Con thing. I have to choose between playing Vintage or Legacy? It is beyond awesome that the tournaments are in Charlotte but having to choose which tournaments to play in is difficult.

Well, you could play in Vintage one day and Legacy the other.

Edit: If you are going to this one get your hotel rooms now. The HeroesCon block has already been filled and rooms are just going to get more expensive as we get closer to the event - especially if you want one you can walk to the venue from.

Once again will be there.  This is a lot of SCG events in a streak.  Could this actually set the format a lite and bring us an influx of new players?  Can we top 200 players for GenCon worlds this year?

NC SCG Tournament

Hi,

I'll be driving up for the weekend to attend the two SCG tournaments. If you want, I can provide a ride.

One member of my team and I are also staying at a friend's house in Charlotte, since the hotel is extremely busy, too expensive for me, and not guaranteeing me a room. If it would help to have a place to stay, I can see about that.

I do not have the ability to post in the Tournament Announcement Forum, so if you would, please paste this there so I can extend my offer.

-Troy

UPDATE: It would appear that Troy has changed his mind.

Does anybody know when the SCG tournament after this will be?  Will it be in, say, Chicago?  Chicago would love for a Power 9 weekend with it being the largest turnout traditionally.

Is anyone from new england area interested in going to this?  I was considering driving down for a mini vacation, having 1-3 people in the car would make it easier on the wallet.

As a reminder, preregistration closes on Wednesday 6/28 at 6:00 PM eastern. Save yourself some time and preregister.

Also for those interested, the head judge for this event will be Level 3 DCI certified judge Eric Shukan.

Okay, I was going to post some joke about the two conventions needing to work on their priorities here, but then I checked both their websites. The HeroesCon website looks like an ugly rainbow threw up all over the screen, but the Origins website has a typo right in the middle of the screen ("repoen").

Anyway, it looks like Origins is older, so it wins, or something.

any word on this tournament?

Oh yes...

Day 1 this is.  About 50 people, do the maths yourself.  JigglyPuff won with Gifts, took Lotus and Twister.  Brendan from Savannah second with an Izzet Guildmage based deck.  3/4 was Hugh from Florida (Gifts, first type 1) and Louis Gentile was Disqualified with an accusation of cheating, apparently entirely founded from the Head Judge, who JigglyPuff said "had it in for Louis".

5-8th Simon Cooper (me - Ravager affinity), Ben Carp from Milwaukee (Oath), Jerry from Cleveland (Gifts) and Adam (?).

9th place got the pearl after the DQ.  Louis was quite upset by the allegation, which was seems based on him picking up his library and allegedly seeing the bottom card, and shuffling his deck facing away from the table judge.  In a statement against his DQ, he tore up and _ate_ his beta Timewalk.  There were several pictures taken of this, hopefully someone will upload.

Basically this tournament was pretty bad.  Starcity went ahead with the prize structure despite turnout, one has to admire their tenacity, and the numbers won't be better tomorrow - which they're also sticking with.  The head judge seemed stressed (I'm avoiding phrases such as "an ass" or "rude and bad tempered").  If nothing else I'm ditching and playing 2HG sealed tomorrow, and Louis has been banned from all events tomorrow.

I have a Jet to show for it, so it can't all be bad, and all the people here are pretty good guys.

Skipping Chicago until at least September even though it usually has the highest turnouts...

And they made an announcement at the start that in September, Ray would be assisting in organising SCG Power 9 - Boston.  I think the 16th-17th weekend.  Does that also attach to some other Con?

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.  Chicagoland craves a tournament.  If Pastimes isn't a nice enough location the College of Dupage has been running tournaments and that place has enough space to hold 400+ easily.  And I'd guess the fee, if any, would be small.

AHHHH  SCG screws their BEST market.  I will NOT be going to boston, but I would be going to a SCG Chicago.   There are a LOT of places in the Midwest that you can look into holding events.

Misty Mountain -  Madison
College of Dupage - Illinois
Pastimes - Niles, Illinois

there are a lot of places with a decent amount of room that you can rent out in the area as well.

One thing is for sure though, with me going to school next year, I will be playing nowhere in the east.

Kudos to Pete for still giving away the full power 9.  It is tough in such a situation to stick to one's word(see Baldwinville).

Also...

Yes...I want to work with Pete to create the best SCG event yet.  I hope to see you all there.

I was once asked on MWS, what the highest I ever finished at a TMD Open was.  I replied, "I've never played in a Waterbury.  I was then called "A TOTAL NOOB!"

Then they asked why Black Lotus was better than Gilded Lotus. I walked away.
