I'd like to congratulate Ephraim SpencerForHire as the winner of 3CB Tournament #73!
The powerhouse that is Sea's Claim working its magic this week - even without a more powerful threat available from a dual land, it buried the manlands and storage lands running around. Sod that - Masknaught won it because everything else was too slow. No matter - congratulations anyway!

A metagame dominated by storage lands...unfortunately some people chose to use the right sort of land, so Pithing Needle wasn't as good as I'd hoped. The two decks with real speed to them took the top spots, as they just outraced the slower threats. Still, the choices are now getting very limited...I'll decide at the end of the next tournament whether to go back to the usual format.

On that note, I'm wondering about, for regular tournaments, banning Fire/Ice and unbanning Isochron Scepter - I can't think of anything else where the Stick becomes too abusive, and, with the exception of Black Lotus (at least for the time being), I like to only ban abusable cards, rather than just good ones. Any thoughts?

For the next fortnight:

The banned list is different - all cards from last week were banned (as well as a small initial list), but after each tournament, all cards used (except basic lands) are banned for the following tournaments.

The rules for this competition will be: Anything Goes! For Now!

What is 3cb?

3-Card Blind (3CB) is a very unique game. The rules are as follows

Your deck is composed of 3 cards, all of which start in your hand.
You have no library (technically, the library exists, but starts at 0 cards) and no sideboard (Wishes fetch nothing).
Random effects always go in your opponent's favour.
You can see your opponent's hand, so you can always make the best possible play.
You don't lose as a result of not being able to draw a card.
You will play each opponent twice, once going first, once going second.
For each win, you score 3.
For each draw, you score 1.
For each loss, you get nothing.
Other than the aforementioned, EVERYTHING IS HANDLED EXACTLY LIKE A REAL GAME OF MAGIC!

To make an entry, PM your deck to combo_dude in the following format:

Subject: 3cb Tournament #74 Entry or 3cb Tournament#74 Revision
Deck Name
Card #1
Card #2
Card #3

Optional Deck discussion, random sucking up, etc.

I'll close entries after 2 weeks. Get your entries in by 20th March and I'll calculate.

Not so many dangerous cards around, but most of the big cards still have the mana sources available to power them! Keep going.

Adam

EDIT: Result and winner changed!

Maybe I'm not seeing it but how do I lose either match to Ephraim?  As far as I'm aware:
I go first:
Me: Ancient Tomb -> Mask -> Go
Him: Island -> Seas Claim
Me: Use Island To play Facedown Naught
Play as usual I win with 12/12

I go second:
Him: Island -> Croc
Me: Ancient Tomb -> Mask
Him: Seas Claim
Me: Play naught.

I don't see him stopping Ancient tomb from making a mask.

Edit:  Similarly, I don't see hwo I redeem any points at all against the ice Floe deck.

Sorry - the Ephraim thing is me forgetting that it doesn't completely disable the land (as it does to every other deck)! A new winner, I think!

As for the Ice Floe deck, you just don't attack; the Spirit tokens don't fly, and Ice Floe can only hit creatures that attack.

Wow thanks I forgot I could choose not to attack.  As for the ephraim thing you wouldn't believe how long I sat there and just tried to calculate how I couldn't win.

More decks please, people: I've had a grand total of THREE decks so far, and due to holiday dates I'd rather not have to extend the tournament if I could!
