I've got mushroom clouds in my hands

OK, I've just bought an apartment (you Americans would call it a condominium, I guess). This poll is going to firmly establish me as a girl, but whatever. Since the apartment looks like crap and has literally NOTHING inside, I need to fix and decorate the whole place. I've thought up several themes for my interior, and decided to do all the manly fixing-up myself (partly as a counterbalance to the feminine activity of having established 'possible themes').
Africa / Shamanism: think conga drums, weird wooden masks, statues of giraffes, tapestry depecting stone-age-like hunting scenes, and a large collection of psilocybin-producing Stropharia cubensis mushrooms (OK, maybe not that).
Industrial Revolution: think metal furniture, rusty colors, airplane propellors on the wall, art-deco posters of old World Exhibitions, and a fully functional steam engine centerpiece (hmmm...maybe disregard the last one).
MYST / Jules Verne: think flasks and decanters, ancient maps on the wall, bookcases filled with thick volumes, dripping candles on a writing desk, framed sketches of perpetuum mobiles, and a 1:1 replica of the Nautilus (if I can convince Disney World to sell me theirs, that is).
Japanese / Asian: think banners with Kanji characters, a katana on the wall, straw mats, meditation cushions, incense, bonzai trees, miniature Zen gardens, and a cryogenically cooled corpe of an 18th century Samurai in my bathtub (if I can remember where I buried him).
Colonial: think Allan Quartermain's African dwelling in The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Dark wood furniture, propellor ceiling fan, and a real elephant skull hunting trophy on the wall (OK, that's a little over the top, but you know what I mean).
The poll is indicative, ofcourse, so any other suggestions are welcome. Does your apartment / dorm room / whatever have a sort of theme? Would you like it to have one? What would it be?

How many rooms is your hamster cage? Does it have a balcony? Your not a girl for wanting a nice place. You will spend most of your life at work and at home. Making it a place you want to be is vital to keeping your sanity. I personally have started decorating my room in japanese related stuff. Unfortunately I'm still renting, so my options are limited. Why not have different themes for different rooms? Industrial stainless steel might look cool in the kitchen and a bit of diamond plating might up the manliness hahaha. Do a combination african/colonial in your living room as your plants should have lots of light. Your best bet is to secretly watch reno shows and get ideas. You could even pic up a martha stuart type magazine, and if they question you about it simply reply with "what!? thats not hustler!"

Obviously you should theme your apartment after the interior of the Executor.

Why not have different themes for different rooms?
If you wanted to do a serious Myst theme, you could totally decorate the rooms after each Age. If you wanted to be truly hardcore, you could get different locks for every door, and put some puzzle on each that people could solve to find the key to that room.

You should have some sort of clock that comes up when the puzzle for the bathroom is activated.

As cool as some of the themes are, I voted for Colonial. Of the options, I think it's the one that will remain attractive to you for the longest time. The others sound beautiful, but I think that they'd either be too difficult to keep up (MYST/Jules Verne) or would grow hard on your eyes somewhat quickly (African.) Colonial has the added bonus of being very tasteful if you would like to entertain. It is also a somewhat more popular option, so you may be able to find inspiration and options in home decor magazines.

Did you know that Red is the color or art and music and passion? Combine that with Green, the color of nature, spiritualism, and community and you get a hippie commune of drum circles, dreamcatchers, and recreational drug use. Let's see that win a Pro Tour.

Well the Africa / Shamanism theme seems nice for about a week or so.. it's not really something you want to see all day I guess. Same for the Colonial thing. The whole Asian thing is nice (an Asian house is the next stage of pimpness?) but I think it isn't practical. I like the Industrial Revolution theme but I think it's not that good for the atmosphere. The Myst thing is nice, especially if you are into Myst, it's always nice to put something of your personal interest in your decoration. So two to go: the Myst theme or the Industrial theme. This is so VERY obvious, you should go for the industrial theme and paint that Transformers logo you have as your avatar on the wall. That would be insane More serious: you should just consider what you like most / is the most practical / you would still like to see when you have the interior next year etc. Good luck on making a choice, we'll wait for the pictures

Clearly you make it like a typical MMORPG Puzzle, and have it lock the door and not spawn again for another X hours. One thing is for sure, you would get good at thinking on your feet.

I think the worst when I have to take a leak. I dont know how many times Ive had to go, but want to finish a level or puzzle, and all I can think about is how bad I have to go. Clearly one thinks better on a full stomach and empty bladder. Now a puzzle as a fridge lock I would agree with. I am much smarter than my roommates hehehe. j

No room in the house exceeds a length of twenty-five feet, let alone fifty feet, let alone fifty-six and a half feet, and yet Chad and Daisy's voices are echoing, each call responding with an entirely separate answer. In the living room, Navidson discovers the echoes emanating from a dark, doorless hallway which has appeared out of nowhere in the west wall.

I do understand it's a complete mismatch with the industrial revolution, I just wanted to have a shitty reason for him to paint a transformer on his wall Bram said something like metal furniture etc. so it fits the theme in some way I guess if you don't overextend the theme towards the time the industrial revolution happened in therms of propellors and stuff. Did you consider something like a Roman style Bram? That would be totally awesome

What might help you decide on your interior is paying attention to the kind of music and movies you like. Beethoven doesn't usually see play in an Industrial setting, nor would you really play Velvet Revolver in an African/Shamanist room. You don't watch Bad 90s PR0N in a Colonial living room.
Hope this helps a lil.

Theme apartments are cool!
I bought one myself as well, and I'm totally going for the Ancient theme.
I've seen some very cool roman interior pieces. And I've also loaded up on some very large and interesting ancient statues from last year's holiday to Greece. Combine that with a Egyptian sarcophage and you have a very nice appartment indeed!
As for your options Bram, I would go with the Myst/Jules Verne one. Don't forget to upload pictures when you're done!

Yeah, but what do you do at 4 in the morning when you've gotta take a leak and cant figure out the puzzle? Download the walkthrough? People think about this shit? I just need a couch, a bed, a deck, a TV and a place to hang some swords. Ooooh, a deck. I totally forgot about the p-irate theme! I'm pretty sure I could make the floor look like a deck, but where would I put the mast? you should go for the industrial theme and paint that Transformers logo you have as your avatar on the wall. That would be insane I don't think you understand the Industrial Revolution. Actually, there's an awesome Transformers comicbook series called 'Transformers Evolution' which is a cool steampunk take on the idea. The idea is that Mt. st. Helen erupted in the late 19th century instead of ten decades later, so the robots shaped themselves after the technology of that time, which Teletran-1 considered to be the domininant lifeform. It leads to stuff like this: ShockwaveStarscreamMegatronThat's kinda mixing Transformers and industrial revolution a litte ^^ Anyway, I wanna thank you guys for the awesome replies to this! Please keep it up; I'm interested in seeing is Asian can beat MYST in the end. As for the actual execution: it will depend partially on the materials I'm able to scrape together. That means some themes will be easier /cheaper to pull off than others, which may prove a factor as well. I'll keep you updated and will most certainly post pics!

Are you dead-set on a theme or would you want a more design-oriented theme kinda thing? If you flip through architecture and home design mags you'll find some really sweet stuff. Basically if you decorate your apartment in Ikea, it'll look sweet and modern. If that is, indeed, the look you would want. Otherwise, I'd go with Colonial-- it looks mature to guests, you can build on the style as you go along and it's functional as well as visually appealing.

Bram you inspired me to redo my house in a MMORPG Decor, I modled it after world of warcraft! I thought it would be great.
So I started in the morning and Installed the new design. I got in my room and it was frieken' awsome! everything looked so cool, It was rended beautifly. After a few minutes in my awsome new room, I found it was diffult to walk around. Also when I opened my drawer to get my socks it took like 20 mins for me to get them in my hands. After that I was booted from my room while they implimented a hot-fix emergency patch to fix the "loot lag." I was stuck in my hall way for like 14 hours! So I just left the house all together and ran some IRL errands. So I'm ready to get some sleep, to my delight my room loads ok. when I finally go to get in my bad, there are like 4 chinese rogues already in my bed!! It was so frustrating! I got in there, and I had to share my room with these farmers ... so annoying. They keep bothering me while i was trying to sleep with "U make 200 food plz thx ^_^#" and "i are china i no qeust?? T_T"Â
So in summary, Don't make the same mistakes I did, stick to transformers in tri-coner hats and eye-patches.
